We dined at the Chef and Gardener before the show at City Theater. All four of us had great dinners. The atmosphere was charming and great for conversation. The service was fine, not over the top, but not bad either. Go for the food! Overall a great experience.

I have been to the restaurant several times and I have recommended it to others. Menu is very interesting. I had a hard time in choosing my appetizer and entree. Choose grilled shrimp served over cream kielbasa grits-very tasty. The entree was Osso Bucco. It was quite simply the best Osso Bucco that I have ever had. My only regret was that I could not finish the large portion.
Service was excellent. I appreciated my server's knowledge of the items on the menu.
I'm looking forward to future meals at the Chef and the Gardener.

We were very excited to try this dining experience, made our reservations and when we got there we felt rushed. We were offered no water, the bread came out and immediately after the food. As soon as are plates were to the side the waitress brought our bill with out even offering dessert, which we like to share on date nights. Just felt really rushed, the food was ok.

Recently had a birthday dinner here and the food was excellent. I had the Pork Osso Bucco and it was an impressive looking dish. It's a nice quiet spot in Saco, limited seating so reservations are a good idea.

Saw the good ratings and thought we would try it. Food was fine but both dishes were not prepared for what we expected. Chicken Saltimbocca was prepared with a like what I would describe is an alfredo sauce which was good but not expected. The Pork Loin special tasted more like a trimmed pork chop and was a bit over seasoned.

I think the kitchen needs to stop overreaching and keep it simpler.

Food was good but my date and I switched plates to make it work. Server disappeared and we were hungry.

The lobster bisque last night was excellent as was the duck. The portobello stew could have been more flavorful, but was good.

This is our second time eating at the Chef & The Gardener and we've enjoyed both evenings. We will be back. The food is creative and the setting conducive to talking and enjoying dinner.

Terrible reservation system and rude owner. This was not our first visit to the Chef and the Gardener-we had been there several times previously and enjoyed the local food. On one prior occasion there was a mess-up with our reservations, but I thought that could be a one time event. I booked through Open Table and when we arrived with our party of 4, including a very elderly woman the owner told us we did not have a reservation. She seemed agitated and told me I must have made a mistake in the day. I looked up the reservation on my phone and showed her, which made her more angry. We had driven some distance with my 89 year old mother so I did not want to have to go to another restaurant, otherwise I would have left at that point. They cleared a table for our party four, I had to sit in the doorway to the kitchen. Following that, at one of the other empty tables with much more space for a party of four a couple was seated. I suppose they had a reservation too, but I am not sure why our larger party had to sit at a table that would have been much more comfortable for two people. The owner's rudeness and the seating ruined what was supposed to be a very special evening.
