The Chateau on the Lake Ratings and Reviews
The food was unique and very good. Very good pairing of different foods. The cocktail list was creative and tasty. The service was outstanding. We went to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and we would go back. I highly recommend Chateau on the Lake for a very special dinner.
This restaurant was on our list to try during vacation and it did not disappoint. A well designed space, with top notch service and excellent food. It’s atmosphere is upscale but cozy and relaxing as well. Just don’t tell too many people about it, so we can keep going back to a hidden gem!
Came to Lake George for our anniversary and The Chateau came highly recommended by a friend. Food was absolutely delicious and worth every penny. Chefs cut was the best steak we’ve ever had. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Very romantic. Highly recommend!
We were there for Sunday Brunch. The menu was innovative and expertly prepared. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The price was very reasonable considering that some items were right off the dinner menu. We would definitely return for dinner or brunch again.
The ambiance is wonderful - the food and wine delicious - we both had the chef's cut special steak and truffle smashed potatoes. We love the Chateau, it's one of our all time favorite restaurants. Enjoyed sitting on their patio terrace with the firepit and white lights.
Chateau on the Lake was once the residence of Hugh Allen Wilson -- a noted keyboardist and conductor who also taught at Union College for decades. As such, I had the opportunity some 40 years ago to make an annual trip to Bolton Landing with 45 of my closest friends to enjoy sharing a keg or two with Hugh and his long-time companion (we hired a bus, of course.) This old house holds a special place in my heart. So, when it became a restaurant a few years ago, I eagerly made the trip to dine there. It was spectacular then, and has not lost a beat in my dozen visits since -- some for business and some for pleasure. Preparations are inventive and the final product is exceptional. In cooler weather, I highly recommend the butternut squash soup. Both fish and meat preparations are carefully crafted. It has a creative wine list and exceptional service. It is a special place that is worth the trip.
It was my birthday and the place was not crowded on any level - maybe only 3 other tables?
They barely made an effort for the birthday dessert - the service was ambivalent at best.
Great location on Lake George but over-priced and for the price point the service was sub-par, very slow and just short of rude.
I would maybe go for cocktails and an appetizer for a very expensive vacation treat if there was a spectacular sunset - otherwise, I would not recommend this over-priced place for a full dining experience. And do not go if you are treating yourself to a special birthday dinner.
We came by boat to the Chateau on a Sunday after Labor Day. Docking was not an issue. The grounds walking up to the Chateau are well kept and very beautiful. My wife and I sat at the bar for a cocktail b fore dinner. My wife had the lemon drop martini and I had a manhatten, both fantastic. Our table was on the front porch overlook the grounds and the lake. Just beautiful. The food is exceptional. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the rack of lamb was unbelievable. Service was very professionalband relaxed. I would highly recommend the Chateau on the Lake for any occasion!!
Our evening was fine until 8:15pm prime dining time , when the management allowed despite the strick policy on their website, a large party with a baby and three young children. I would have never brought my young children to one of America's "top 100 most romantic" restaurants. Outrageous! We expressed our displeasure to our waiter. The baby was crying and the young children were not much better. Not sure if I would bother to go back. If these guests can afford to dine at this establishment , they can afford a babysitter! However, ultimately it rests on the management!
4 very happy diners. Lawn dining lakeside on a beautiful evening. Soup course (Butternut Bisque) outstanding. Lobster Du Louis was my entree choice and it was delicious. Wine list contained a favorite white Burgundy. Wait staff attentive and helpful. Easy parking. All in all a great, experience. Do review the menu before coming, paying attention to the pricing information conveniently provided by the proprietors.
What a wonderful restaurant!! The ambience outside with the lake, the string lights and the smell of the fire pit made for the best night ever! The food was incredible and the waitstaff were so professional but super friendly! This place is a gem and I am so happy to have found it!!
Very cool and hip ambiance, but reserve early to dine on the enclosed porch which is primo. The inside dining is moderately noisy--we waited at the bar for 15 minutes for our table. There is also true outdoor dining on the lawn overlooking the lake, with torches and a fire pit (buggy?). Service was professional and aimed to please. We shared the scallops appetizer; entrees were chicken foret and the chef's cut--10 oz NY Strip which I found a bit fatty. Overall, a pricey dining experience I might only repeat for a special occasion.
Overall it was incredibly average. The food is overly complex and under seasoned. This is our third visit. The drinks ordered from the bar were not right and it has happened every time We have been at this establishment. Our expectations for our experience were not set high because one thing is for sure; it is consistent in comparison with our other visits.
We were pleasantly surprised it was a small intimate place. Food, ambience and service all good. Only regret was wish we had a drink outside before dinner as we were seated inside and view of lake was minimal. They should capitalize more on cocktails outside before seating you. An outside bar or encouraging that.
The hostess greeted us as soon as we walked in. She asked where we wanted to sit, inside, the covered porch or in the back yard overlooking the lake. We chose the lake. Our server Patrick was very attentive and helpful with the menu. The food was fabulous, deep fired lobster roll, scallops, mushroom ravioli, pork tenderloin andthe chicken dish to die for. I
This is my new go to restaurant when visiting Lake George.
