The Charcoal Room - Santa Fe Station Hotel & Casino Ratings and Reviews
Valentine's Day evening for 2 in a booth:
BAR - Excellent service. Tonic was flat. Bartender knew this and added club soda to add fiz. She said she has to go to the 2nd floor to get fresh tonic. The bar was not that crowded yet. So we got a vodka-tonic-club soda instead of a vodka-tonic. Disappointing for the Charcoal Room.
DINNER - Excellent food. Service was slow even for Valentine's Day evening. After the waitress apologized for the wait due to kitchen being backed up, then asked us if we wanted anything. So, I asked for another beer since we had to wait some more. Shortly after receiving the beer, the food came. I was surprised that I was charged for the 2nd beer. Disappointing for the Charcoal Room.
SUMMARY - We come to the Charcoal Room 1 or 2 times per year for special occasions. On the whole, we had a very nice time. The issues mentioned above were surprising for the Charcoal Room when thinking back now while completing the survey. But not bad enough to spoil our evening. Try to do better next time. We will return.
The food was very good. Service was good until they ordered the wrong special. Waited about 1 hour for the right food to be made. They did apologize many times. It would have been nice to have taken a little off of the bill for waiting so long. Overall it was nice.
The food was so so. The creamed spinach was stringy and we really could not eat it. Told the server but due to the $25 off coupon we couldn't have it taken off the bill as it would not meet the minimum total. We won't be back anytime soon as it was a disappointment for our special occasion.
Our server Ralph was the worst servers we have ever had at what was one of my fav restaurants in Las Vegas .
My prime rib was ridiculously undercooked, and my friends filet mignon was charred beyond belief.
It's really too bad that nobody cares about this restaurant has gone downhill so quickly.
The food was amazing! The young lady singing was phenomenal. My only complaints are the smokey environment, I didn’t think a place of that caliber would be so smoke filled, obviously I’m a non smoker. And for the price, the service wasn’t what I thought it would be. We were served 1 glass of water (that’s all we had to drink) with no ice until we were finished with our meals, then right before we left, our glasses were filled. The “fixings” for my baked potato didn’t come until I had finished half of my meal. A good friend recommended this restaurant and eats there frequently and I can kind of see why, but just not sure. Sorry, just being honest.
Overall it was a nice time and the live music was a nice addition. The meal was pretty good with these exceptions: the petit filet was one of the smallest I've seen and somewhat dry with a sauce. The mashed potatoes however were a very strange consistency with an odd sheen to them and not very good. Both the French onion soup and gnocchi were quite good but SO hot they burned my tongue and I had to wait for them to cool. Turn down the simmer level kitchen staff! Ok, not great!
Ordered a filet mignon it is was the size of an overgrown walnut. I checked with the server and manager to verify that it was not the petite fillet mignon. If my steak was regular sized, I would hate to see the petite. Would probably look about the size of a pecan shell. Ordered it med rare and it arrived extremely rare. Steak had the taste of being prior cooked and them thrown on the grill to add some grill marks to it. Very dissatisfied with this meal. In all fairness, I've eaten here many times and have always had a great meal. I've eaten the filet before and it truly was not what I received in prior visits.
We use open table to book reservations at the Charcoal Room. The nice thing about open table is that I can put my reservation in thru my cell phone and be in and ordering drinks and fine food, just by walking in. They also keep notes on my open table reservations and know that we prefer a booth upon our visits. Friendly, efficient staff from the greeters to the bussers. A hidden gem of a fine restaurant on the NW side of town. Will be back for sure.
Our party of four enjoyed a wonderful surf and turf dinner with all of our meals cooked exactly as requested. The sides that we ordered were generous enough to share. The wine selection by the glass (as I was the only one drinking) was adequate enough to satisfy me. However, when it came to the carrot cake, it was awful. It was so dry that after the first bite I determined it wasn't worth eating. I was promptly offered anything else that I wanted to replace it but, I declined. I was really full enough. I was not charged for the cake. Our waitress was wonderful. I believe her name was Misa?? She was attentive without hovering.
The service was so so, was never asked if we would like our waters refilled until we were ready to leave. One steak was under cooked and the other was over cooked. We asked for the first one to be medium well and it was rare and the other was asked for medium well and it was like shoe leather. I will come back because I usually don't have a problem, not sure if there was a new cook I didn't recognize any of the regular people so not sure if you were restaffing but wanted to let you know.
Mashed potatoes were not hot. There was a singer/piano player and it was too noisy for conversation. We wanted a quiet elegant dinner and there was too much commotion. The server was excellent. We have a coupon and will use it but that will probably be our last time at the Charcoal Room.
My wife and I dined at the Charcoal Room, Santa Fe Station hotel-casino on Thanksgiving Day. My wife had the prime rib special and it was a very generous cut and delicious. Fortunately, there was enough to share because I ate very little of my turkey entrée. The turkey was awful! Priced at $45, I expected real, hand-carved roasted turkey. But what I got was worse than any buffet I ever attended. If you go next Thanksgiving, order the prime rib or something from the regular menu.
The hostess did not greet us as we walked in and then walked quickly and away from us as she showed us to our table. She was not personable at all and even reached around me as I was being seated to hand my wife her menu. Thank goodness it got better from there. Our waitress was very nice and personable. The food was fantastic! Enjoyable evening except for the hostess. Definitely didn't let it ruin our night. We will be going back and would definitely recommend.
