The Charcoal Room - Santa Fe Station Hotel & Casino Ratings and Reviews
Overall it was a nice time and the live music was a nice addition. The meal was pretty good with these exceptions: the petit filet was one of the smallest I've seen and somewhat dry with a sauce. The mashed potatoes however were a very strange consistency with an odd sheen to them and not very good. Both the French onion soup and gnocchi were quite good but SO hot they burned my tongue and I had to wait for them to cool. Turn down the simmer level kitchen staff! Ok, not great!
Ordered a filet mignon it is was the size of an overgrown walnut. I checked with the server and manager to verify that it was not the petite fillet mignon. If my steak was regular sized, I would hate to see the petite. Would probably look about the size of a pecan shell. Ordered it med rare and it arrived extremely rare. Steak had the taste of being prior cooked and them thrown on the grill to add some grill marks to it. Very dissatisfied with this meal. In all fairness, I've eaten here many times and have always had a great meal. I've eaten the filet before and it truly was not what I received in prior visits.
We use open table to book reservations at the Charcoal Room. The nice thing about open table is that I can put my reservation in thru my cell phone and be in and ordering drinks and fine food, just by walking in. They also keep notes on my open table reservations and know that we prefer a booth upon our visits. Friendly, efficient staff from the greeters to the bussers. A hidden gem of a fine restaurant on the NW side of town. Will be back for sure.
Our party of four enjoyed a wonderful surf and turf dinner with all of our meals cooked exactly as requested. The sides that we ordered were generous enough to share. The wine selection by the glass (as I was the only one drinking) was adequate enough to satisfy me. However, when it came to the carrot cake, it was awful. It was so dry that after the first bite I determined it wasn't worth eating. I was promptly offered anything else that I wanted to replace it but, I declined. I was really full enough. I was not charged for the cake. Our waitress was wonderful. I believe her name was Misa?? She was attentive without hovering.
The service was so so, was never asked if we would like our waters refilled until we were ready to leave. One steak was under cooked and the other was over cooked. We asked for the first one to be medium well and it was rare and the other was asked for medium well and it was like shoe leather. I will come back because I usually don't have a problem, not sure if there was a new cook I didn't recognize any of the regular people so not sure if you were restaffing but wanted to let you know.
Mashed potatoes were not hot. There was a singer/piano player and it was too noisy for conversation. We wanted a quiet elegant dinner and there was too much commotion. The server was excellent. We have a coupon and will use it but that will probably be our last time at the Charcoal Room.
My wife and I dined at the Charcoal Room, Santa Fe Station hotel-casino on Thanksgiving Day. My wife had the prime rib special and it was a very generous cut and delicious. Fortunately, there was enough to share because I ate very little of my turkey entrée. The turkey was awful! Priced at $45, I expected real, hand-carved roasted turkey. But what I got was worse than any buffet I ever attended. If you go next Thanksgiving, order the prime rib or something from the regular menu.
The hostess did not greet us as we walked in and then walked quickly and away from us as she showed us to our table. She was not personable at all and even reached around me as I was being seated to hand my wife her menu. Thank goodness it got better from there. Our waitress was very nice and personable. The food was fantastic! Enjoyable evening except for the hostess. Definitely didn't let it ruin our night. We will be going back and would definitely recommend.
Kevin, our waiter, and his assistant, Ray, were so great. They were very attentive to our needs and wants, which they actually anticipated. The steak and prime rib were outstanding. The mushrooms and potatoes au gratin were also fabulous. The bread basket is filled with a super variety of warm, delicious breads. The Charcoal Room is always superb.
This used to be a great restaurant, now its average at best. The new Executive Chef ruined the menu. Every time we are here we hear people complain about it. The room manager does nothing but lean on the bar and watch sports. We have been here at least 10 times in the last two months and he has never checked in. The servers even comment about how downhill things have gone and it’s clear by the fact that less and less people are there each time we go. Wake up management. You ruined a great place.
