The Champagne Bar at The Plaza
Wonderful experience as part of a birthday trip to NYC. The Plaza is truly magical at Christmas.
I would normally give a perfect rating, but the Plaza was definitely off this night (December 1). They must have hired some weird third party bouncers because these guys were rude and giving me a hard time about my reservation. Apparently “the Champagne Bar doesn’t take reservations.” I must be stupid or crazy (which is how they were treating me). I guess when you go the Champagne Bar’s part of the Plaza’s website there’s no button to make a reservation and it certainly doesn’t take you to OpenTable, and this isn’t my third time bookings a reservation (this is sarcasm). I told these guys that they do take reservations and my friends were inside. “That’s nice that you have friends,” said one of these jerks. “Tell someone to come get you and you can go in.” Well, I did just that. Very disappointed in the representation that night.
However, my friends and I had a lovely server who treated us very well.
I’d still go back, but Plaza, come on! Don’t hire jerks to be your bouncers. And please educate them on reservations.
Recently celebrated my 21st birthday here with a glass of champagne. They were able to accommodate our group of 10. Some champagne is pricey, but we chose the the $80 bottle of prosecco. Even though we were drinking one of the cheapest options, they treated us incredibly kindly and respectfully. They even brought out free desserts with macarons and other mini desserts. It is the perfect place to celebrate anything special! I recommend making a reservation so you do not have to wait in line. Highly recommend!!!
The hotel says they no longer take reservations, but I was able to get reservations on Open Table. This got us out of the "red velvet waiting line" for the new, first come-first served system at The Plaza. We had three separate reservations to total 10 people. They whisked us inside, accommodated this 10 vs 3-3-4 request and we got the best seas in the house. A comfy couch and chairs around a coffee table to have champagne to toast four girls on their 21st birthday. The waiters were formal (as you would expect at a fancy, classy place), but fun and went out of their way to do amazing pictures for us. Although we were simply having champagne, they surprised us with a lovely white plate, with Happy Birthday written beautifully in chocolate with the sweetest plate of macaroons, mini cupcakes, etc for our group. Our Prosecco was $80/bottle (retail less than $20 :)), but they didn't do an automatic gratuity as most places on our NYC birthday weekend did for the size of our group. It was the perfect way to rest our feet and have a once in a lifetime New York moment!
Amazing venue. Amazing service. Totally superb!
Very underwhelming so we decided to go for a drink elsewhere.
Went here for a wonderful mother-daughter celebration champagne. Very special feel!
If you want to drink champagne in a champagne bar this is not the place to go. Putting champagne bottles on a bar in a hotel lobby does not make it a champagne bar even if it is the Plaza.
It was a terrible experience that will stay with me for some time, as it was my mom’s 65th Birthday celebration and we wanted to make it extra special. We arrived and found out that they were closed, and have been for almost a week with no intent to re-open. It is terrible that they did not inform guests with reservations that they are closed, and to make things worse they are still taking reservations for a restaurant that is closed.... diners beware!
Said they were understaffed & hotel was closed, after they had called me to confirm
Not the greatest experience, I was very disappointed with this.
Despite hotel being closed- bookings were continually accepted for champagne bar.
Pierre hotel was much better...
I made this reservation 2 weeks prior to my boyfriend's 30th birthday. It was going to be a surprise for him, as I didn't tell him where we were going for dinner and drinks. I called the Plaza 30 minutes prior to our reservation to let them know we were running a few minutes late due to traffic -- turns out the restaurant is ClOSED. Apparently, the workers are on strike and there are no operating restaurants in the whole building. Imagine my horror and utter shock when I had to tell my boyfriend we didn't have a dinner reservation for his 30th birthday.
I am not only disappointed, but also embarrassed by this lack of service. The fact that 1) Open Table ALLOWED me to make this reservation and 2) no one from the Plaza called to let me know so I could have made alternative plans, is actually embarrassing for a location of this caliber.
I wanted to do something special and extraordinary, only to be caught completely off guard by the fact this opulent restaurant didn't have the basic decency to let their reservations know that the restaurant was not operating. I can't even imagine what it would have been like if we showed up only to be told "sorry, there's nothing we can do." We don't live in the city, and are unfamiliar with the area to know where to go as a replacement.
Overall, disgraceful experience. If and when this bar reopens, I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. A 30th birthday surprise indeed.
My wife and I had a special occasion, and we were gonna have our 1st drinks here. I made the reservation days ago, and planned the entire night. We got there, and declined access at the door, saying that they're closed and if we want we can come back another time. I asked why the hell nobody called us, the security guy said we're not supposed to, and we can come back another time. Would NEVER go back there!
Had a 2:30 reservation on April 27th at 2:30 pm for celebratory drinks after proposing in Central Park. I made these reservations a month in advance and had no back up plans.
Arrive at the plaza around 2:15 and the restaurant is closed due to “labor issues” it would of been nice to been contacted about this so I could make a different plan. Was looking forward to it.
I loved the ambiance of the Bar, the politeness of the staff and the amazing meals and the coctail I ordered. Everything was of high standard. I attached the photos of my order: the Onion soup, the Plaza Burger and the Bellini coctail. To sum it up, I had a wonderful 1st time at the Bar and I'm looking forward to going back again.
Great people-watching on a Saturday before dinner and food and beverages were outstanding as one would expect.
Very disappointed. I was on holiday with my daughter and this was outperform treat. The champagne was good. The wait staff were knowledgeable. I expected a lounge setting with a lovely atmosphere. This is definitely not that. The room is large and is open to a a flight of stairs. People were walking through constantly with their luggage on their way to check-out. It was loud. We arrived to find the wait staff all standing chatting and it took us at least 15 minutes to be served. Overall it was similar to a food court.
Our bill was pricey as expected but those contemplating coming to the champagne bar should look elsewhere. It is absolutely not worth the cost.
Nice setting, but in the busy lobby . Quite noisy and bit overpriced
Went for Easter brunch and it was incredible. Great atmosphere, food and incredible bloody marys!
I was beyond disappointed in everything only thing good was the service food was terrible drinks over priced
Meh. It was okay. If you like pretentious.
Always a pleasure dining here!
I used to come here all the time when I used to work in NYC.
This visit left a lot to be desired. Service was exceptionally poor and our server was rude and acted really weird - like he intentionally wanted us to leave. He kept mumbling and making weird comments the entire time. We ordered for crab cakes and got the crudités instead. When I tried telling him that he got the wrong order, he mumbled, ‘you want crab cakes as well now, we’ll get that for you, but this (crudités) is good’. We wanted to send back the crudités (which we never ordered but paid for), but relented because we didn’t want to ruin my birthday celebration by creating a scene.
The place seemed like some 0 star rated haphazard cafe with cutlery (not covered/rolled in napkins) and condiments stashed in the bay windows (great use of the iconic windows). The crab cakes and Bellini were very good and crudités were ‘half-washed-half-wilted’ but the dressings were really good.
I asked for directions to the restroom and the servers answer was ‘it is upstairs’. I asked, ‘Where upstairs? Do I go left or right after I reach upstairs?’, and answer was ‘go up the stairs’. I had to ask another server who very politely gave me the correct directions.
I’m not sure if any positive outcome will come through this review. Plaza used to be the iconic, dreamland type of place..not anymore. Highly ‘Not’ recommended.
Always love a cocktail at the Plaza! 👌🏻🇺🇸🇮🇪
Please note the Champagne Bar is in the hotel lobby so you have many people wandering past and around you, so If you would like to eat in a hotel lobby this place is for you. Also food pricing is not representative of the product/ experience received. Some of the worst tasting and poorly presented food I have ever had. I do not recommend as a place to eat, so many better options.
Buen lugar para ir a tomar la copa o comer algo ligero.
Lo que vale la pena es la ubicación en la esquina de central Park.
Very positive. Would highly recommend. Good lunch options.
Just being there was marvelous since we loved Home Alone the movie
For 2 glasses of champagne that cost at least $75 dollars you would think that you would receive just any service at all. No one came to our table within ten minutes of sitting there. We then never got water. Rudely got served our glasses of champagne. When time for the check the server asked us what we got. Then after paying he opened the bill in front of us, looked at the tip, closed the book, rolled his eyes and walked away. Literally the worst service I have ever had. I own restaurants and this is my first review but it was needed. Beautiful space but absolutely horrible service.
Best birthday ever!
We LOVED it. The prices were really high - i felt like they should have had some lower priced champagnes as well as the higher priced ones. Love the little chic snacks we were served!
overall it was a great experience!
Way too expensive for the champagne by the glass. Delicious desserts.
The Champagne Bar always delivers in an over all great experience with exceptional attentive service! Bravo to such a wonderfully cohesive reliable terrific team!
Personally, we lacked some good music....
Great atmosphere and table by the window. Servers were very personable.
Went for pre meal drinks with friend's. Beautiful setting, fantastic service and a great drinks list. Really made the night.
What a disappointment! We went there to order a bottle of Champagne, a glass starts at $33, zero ambiance.
When you think of Plaza hotel, you think of elegance and class. The Champagne bar is in the lobby, wide open and bright. There is a tiny little bar to sit at and a bunch of tables that looks like they were extra tables just thrown in there.
If you want an espresso or cappuccino while you read the paper, ok go here. If you went some elegant and luxurious bar/lounge, do not go here for that.
There is the Rose Room which is right up a set of stairs from the "Champagne Bar" , this is ok to have drink. The service was great, cannot complain about that.
Just ehh for atmosphere, if you are going to spend $150 plus on a bottle of Champagne you don't want to feel like your at the free continental breakfast spot in a hotel.
Great place to go for small bites , although I was full after the highly recommended cheese board. The flight of champagnes were terrific and the service was excellent. Went back the next day for cocktails and lunch. Consistent great service by all staff and. Alejandro was fabulous. Just sorry that I don't live in NYC!
The only thing I didn't love was being seated by the main exit/entrance stairs. :( I felt a little on display as we ate. But the men who served us were excellent.
