We were having a girls weekend at my home in Cda. I went online and booked our table and asked to be seated upstairs and by a window. I asked for upstairs because some of the ladies have trouble with stairs and I wanted it quieter when the music started. When we arrived I was told we were downstairs due do a group party on the main floor. I would have appreciated notification of this prior to our arrival. But, with that said, the food was wonderful and our waitress was very attentive and did an excellent job. That was first time to have dinner there, so I have mixed emotions about The Cellar.

Steak was still half frozen . Re-cook morphed into overly well done. Getting food took an hour. Waitress was unattentive, spending loads of time talking to guys and people she apparently knew. My guests caught her eye rolling at least three times. We felt forgotten and treated as though we were bothering her to do her job. Music guests sang the same notes loudly practically the entire time. Those seemingly in command oblivious. We will NOT be back.

As an owner in the customer service industry I was very disappointed in the Cellars . The host was rude and un accommodating. The bar tender was rude and not helpful w the response of pushing me off onto another location next door. My recommendation to this location would be instead of a snobby attitude about what isn't available be more helpful in demonstrating what the location does have to offer.

Went for dinner to celebrate our sons first job. Service was very slow from the beginning. But the gentleman stated he is just returning to work after three months. It sure seem like it was his first day on his own. Service from a waitress was very slow. Our total dinner time was 2 1/2 hours. There was a lot of waiting in between drink offers, food and the Bill. Apparently they are well-known for the flank steak. I had it cooked medium rare and it was over done and chewy. My son got the hamburger and he would not eat it because it Tasted like Raw hamburger. Knowing it would take too long to send back we just ate it. Saw several people leave the facility due to waiting time. Building was very cold we sat and ate with jackets.

Had a wonderful meal. Starting with the flatbread, sharing a salad and then having the steel head trout done in the banana leaf as well as the porterhouse pork chop in mustard. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. The people were very friendly. Don't know if they were short staffed, but the service was terrible. We saw two tables go hunt down the waitress for various needs. We would come back, but a second service experience like the first, would make it the last visit. Don't know if the fact that it is off season and a Sunday had anything to do with the bad service...just throwing that out as a possibility.

We went because Chef Adam Hegsted, Spokane's James Beard Award finalist, is the owner. Like many in Spokane we saw the news story AND we had a birthday to celebrate.
I booked a table for four for Friday evening, 02/26/2016, using the OpenTable app on my phone which made booking easy.
Our whole table agreed to the Chef's Tour where the restaurant's chef decides what to cook and serve you, from appetizers through dessert. We did not have a dish we would not order on our next trip! From the deep-fried artichokes and glazed prosciutto through the steelhead, we all enjoyed every bite.
This is a great find that we've already told our friends about! The atmosphere was trendy wine bar. The service was the only negative - but understand the servers were well-trained and very professional, there just weren't enough of them to be 5-star and at some points we waited longer for the next course than we should have...

The food and ambiance is excellent, and a great place to go enjoy some wine or cocktails. Downstairs there is a jazz club-like environment. We were there Valentine's Day weekend and the service was slow, but the waitress was attentive and the food was delicious. The Steelhead was the best I have ever had.

Our valentines day dinner was outstanding at The Cellar! We greatly enjoyed the ambiance, and the live music was just the right volume and genre to allow us to have good conversation without too much noise. The main course was outstanding! The food was really the highlight of the experience for me. If I had one complaint, it would be on service. It was a busy night, to be sure....but it seemed to take quite a while between courses. Dessert took so long, that our server ended up having to go back to the kitchen to make it herself.

The one complaint aside, the overall experience was excellent, and I would definitely recommend The Cellar to any of my friends.

My wife and I, who are new to the area, had our first meal at The Cellar Restaurant last week. We anticipated an outstanding dinner, but our experience was quite a bit less than anticipated. It was not at all busy, but service was on the slow side, and the food was not at all of the quality we anticipated. We each ordered a salad and an entrée. My wife's salad, a small wedge, was very good; my Caesar was extremely heavy on the garlic and salt, the Romaine was wilted and apparently not washed, as I encountered "grit" in multiple bites. My wife's ribeye, which she ordered medium-well, was cooked beyond well done, was like chewing leather, and flavorless. I ordered the Lamb shank, which was disappointing as well - way overcooked (could it have been left over from the day before and then just rewarmed? Anyway, it was worse than just not good. The restaurant is apparently as much of an event space; downstairs in the actual cellar, there was an investment meeting during our dinner. The leader of that group used a microphone, and the sound from the event drifted upstairs into the dining area throughout our meal. Competing with the meeting was overly loud metal/punk music, which was not at all conducive to an enjoyable dining experience. Finally, this is also a restaurant that asks you if you want dessert while you are in the middle of eating your entrée - an awful practice, especially for a restaurant of this supposed calibre. Needless to say, we will not revisit The Cellar Restaurant in the future.

We've been to the cellar before and service was always great. This time there only seemed to be one guy working the entire floor. He took the reservation. Was the host, waiter, bartender and busboy. Felt bad for him but as a result it was a slow and poor service experience as he was just spread too thin

Food was very good and very reasonably priced. Wine list prices made up for the reasonably priced food though. Still, my wife and I enjoyed the experience. We would definitely come more often if we didnt have to drop $50 for a bottle of wine that fit our menu selections.

We had dinner here on New Year's eve. The preselected menu had something for any person's preference (chicken, beef, vegetarian) in all 4 courses. The live music was great! It was not too loud, so we were able to still have a conversation while having a romantic dining experience. Our waiter was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. Our dinner was just what we wanted, an intimate and romantic get-a-way to celebrate the new year. I have eaten here before, the food is always excellent and the atmosphere is always perfect. This restaurant is consistently top notch. I would recommend it to anyone!

Was recommended by a friend who lives locally so I happily made a reservation for me and 2 business colleagues. What wasn't made clear at the time or when I arrived is that there was live music on the lower floor and that's where my table was. It would have been nice to have had the option of sitting upstairs or downstairs. The music was great, just not what we were looking for during a business dinner. The food was fantastic. Service was ok, and I think would have been better if it hadn't been so busy/loud due to the music. I would definitely give it a shot again but would ask for a different location.

The Cellar was a great find! Started with wild mushroom and rice soup and a new eggplant appetizer. These were both absolutely delicious!! We shared the Northwest Paella for two. The reason we ranked 4 out of 5 stars for food was because the rice had no crispness or crunch on the bottom of the pan. Also, the mussels and clams needed a bit more flavor. Make sure you sit downstairs -- great ambience!! Also, the live music was a nice addition.

Returned for first time since change in ownership. Downstairs was closed. Menu was limited. Some signature dishes gone. Server said menu would be changing the next day. Seems to us that, while the food was okay, the new owners have cut back to survive. If they do they would have to find a way to cater to locals and not just tourists. Great Sherman avenue location should help, but it does not look good for the future. We hope they survive.

I ate at the Cellar many years ago when it was just a downstairs restaurant and wine cellar. The food then was not memorable but the ambiance was great. This was not enough for me to return. I had friends in town and we wanted to go to a good restaurant that was in walking distance form their hotel. The Cellar was recommended so we decide to give it a try. I am so glad to now have a restaurant that I can rely on that has great service, a nice menu and a fun atmosphere! We shared several dishes and ordered cocktails from the bar. The food was well prepared and presented nicely. I look forward to retuning to try more menu items and try something from the extensive wine list.

My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. We started with a $100 Brunello and planned to make an evening of it. I ordered the potato soup with salmon roe, this was neither a soup nor did it contain said roe. This was mashed potatoes and they were only ok.

My wife had the mussels with bacon dashi. The dashi had so much mirin in it that it could have been any sauce or stock, where is that konbu and fish flavor? Maybe they were hoping the 2 unopened dead shellfish in the "dashi" would lend the authentic flavor we were looking for. Although we did read in their philosophy that they believed in a non-traditional authenticity. Our server claimed that we'd be "living dangerously" to have tried to eat them. I think it would have been easy enough to withdraw the dead bivalves before they made it to our table.

Next we ordered the wedge Caesar salad with cured egg yolk, this salad tasted like almost nothing and was again missing the element that I hoped to try, the cured yolk. We gazed lovingly into each other's eyes while hearing "Free Bird" playing loudly and agreed non-verbally to accept this meal as a failure. We didn't bother to order Entrees.

From the minute we tried to check in for our reservation....the hostess was confused & flustered & thus starting us out on a pretty unwelcoming note. Unfortunately our waiter knew nothing about wine (the restaurant is called "The Wine Cellar!") & his HOVERING constant presence (in his words "sorry if I'm micro-managing you, but you're my only table")- which translated into a rushed & frankly, a stressful overall feel. Lucky for us that a new table was seated in his section (VERY close by, I had to keep shifting my chair to get out of everyone's bumping distance), and yet it was a mixed blessing as we completely dropped off his radar...so we were left sitting at a table that needed a wipe-down from (his) spilled salad dressing. The salad was missing several of the listed ingredients(?) Oddly, twice we had to wave off different staff from insistently bringing us someone else's appetizers. Once we commenced eating; my husband's meal was notable for it's 'blah-ness' & my chicken was so over cooked that each of the few bites I took, turned to saw-dust in my mouth. I did enjoy the one sample of wine that we managed to try & ultimately the one glass of wine I had with dinner was enjoyable; you'd hope so, wouldn't you in a wine bar/restaurant?!

Large portions from pizza to wonderful Steelhead. The salads are creative and flavorful (even the 1/2 size salad is large). Kid-friendly too.

Our group enjoyed dinner at the Cellar ( indoors ) the other night. Those who had the steelhead thought it was wonderful; one person reported very good steak; my chicken ( poached and roasted with rhubarb celery) was very tasty. All meals were nicely presented!

Our server was energetic, efficient, and personable.

The indoor dining spaces are very attractive and pleasing to the eye - - very classy-looking spot. Somehow, the pervasive loud music does not match the soothing decor, and I've often felt as if the Cellar can't decide if it wants to be an upscale Iron Horse, or a place which attracts a more gourmet crowd of patrons who enjoy long conversations over their wine and dinners.

My one suggestion is to cut the loud music, add a splash of soft jazz as an appropriate background to what is truly a lovely spot.

We live in the neighborhood and will return !
