The Cellar Newnan Ratings and Reviews
The Cellar is our favorite place to eat in Coweta County. Food and service is always top notch. The only problem I have ever experienced is that there always seems to be a table where someone has had too much to drink and gets extremely loud. It makes it hard to talk at the other tables. However, the food is so good, it doesn't stop us from going there.
Most of my experiences at this place have been ok. On this particular night, the bar service was extremely slow, and restaurant wasn't even at half capacity. The best way I could describe this place is Big town prices with small town food and service. It will probably be a while before I go back.
I have eaten here several times for dinner and really enjoyed it. We took the family their for a pre-Christmas lunch and I was not impressed. We walked in with reservations and the hostess pointed at our table across the room and said that's your table. The menu selection was very limited. Mostly sandwiches. Service was extremely slow and we were only one of 3 tables. We ordered Martinis and when they finally came they were horrible. When the food finally came it was cold. It was a very big let down for such a pricey lunch. Not sure what has happened there, it used to be great.
Our dining experience was terrible this time. Although we have been to The Cellar several times before we have never had this poor level of service before. Our reservation was at 8:00 pm and our food wasn't served until 9:45 pm and the restaurant wasn't that busy. We were told that they were out of potatoes, ALL kinds and that there wasn't any substitute!! How does a restaurant run out of potatoes on a Saturday evening???? My wife ordered a 6oz filet mignon that was SO small it was about 2" in diameter and the asparagus was served cold and hard...she left the restaurant hungry which is a shame considering our bill was $180.00! We told our server that the filet seemed way too small for the size we ordered and the price we paid but he didn't seem concerned. We don't plan on going back.
We had several items from the menus and they were all great. One item came out overdone and without us even saying anything, our waitress put in a new order. The manager even came out to apologize and check on us. We met one of my vendors there. He is from out of state but said he would love to come back. It's nice to have something like this in our quaint downtown.
This was our first time eating at The Cellar. Something happened to our order and our food was very late getting to us. The Manager and waiter were very kind and brought us soup until our food came out. The Manager went over and above to accommodate us. It was just a mishap...it happens. The food was excellent. I would have given a 5 star review except the restaurant was very cold. The owner did bring in some heaters to help. We will go back and I would recommend it highly.
The Cellar is a still-welcome dining experience to Newnan where the options are generally limited to chain restaurants. It caters out of necessity to locals looking for something simple like well-cooked burgers, but also pulls out the stops on sometimes simply prepared but out of the ordinary fish and poultry choices. The same can be said for pricing: nicely customized burgers from around $13 to top line beef or exotic fish as high as $40. It pulls it off in a non-pretentious environment thats good for a night out with the spouse or friends or a special date.
We were very excited about going to The Cellar for Thanksgiving. But our experience was terrible. Even though I made a reservation, it seemed they were not ready and we waited about 20 minutes to be seated. The lighting is way too dim. Our waiter was awful. We had to ask for bread that was supposed to come with the very expensive meal. He never once came and checked on us or offered to bring us more food. We had to flag him down. For the very hefty price of $35 per adult and $15 for children, we were very disappointed. Those prices did not even include a soda or tea. The food was very good. However because of the terrible service and small food portions we will never recommend this restaurant.
We picked the Cellar for Thanksgiving dinner. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 3pm seating. Several more parties showed up after us. We ended up being the last seated 20 minutes after 3. Our waiter seemed rushed and it would take him a long time to get to us. I over heard other waiters explaining to their tables how the meal worked (was family style). He didn’t explain that to us. We ordered wine ($10.50 and $8.50 for a house Cab and Chardonnay respectively was a bit high IMHO) and when he brought that, he took off again without a word. Another gentleman (I presume a kitchen manager) brougham t out our food. The food was ok taste wise but lukewarm at best. We asked for the dinner rolls and cornbread that was included on the menu. The waiter told us that they didn’t make cornbread and he didn’t know why it was on the menu and the rolls were upon request (not stated on menu). He brought us some sliced baguette pieces. We had to wait another 10 or so minutes to catch our waiters attention again to get the check. And then about 10 more for him to run the card and bring it back. He hurriedly told me thank you for coming and sorry about the delay and was on to the next table before he even finished his sentence. I had heard really good things about the Cellar which is why I picked it. Maybe they will be better on a normal night.
Well, I do like the The Cellar!
Pros: We have had Thanksgiving dinner there twice and the food is really, really good. For $35 plus drinks and dessert fees, you are given all you can eat of a dazzling array of mostly traditional Thanksgiving dishes. But everything is just taken up a notch. I am not a fan of sugary yam dishes, but the version The Cellar serves? Guys, I will shovel that stuff down all day long! Every single dish is like that just...better. They have some kind of home cooking magic going on back there in the kitchen.
The desserts are ridiculously good, so go ahead and pay extra, they are worth it. Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding, Ya'll. The cocktails are well crafted and they even have a few good choices if it is hot tea you are craving.
The service. These folks, with good humor, moved our entire operation out back into the sunny (and quieter) courtyard and turned on the heaters on to offset the chill of a November day. Extra points for never acting put out in the slightest, we were a pain.
Cons: OK, The Bays? Not a good place to take the fam for a nice holiday feel. It's open, the lighting is a bit, I dunno, grim and not being in the sun, it was chilly. Also, it's right there next to the bar, with flat screens going and really loud, NOT seasonal music blaring. No tablecloths and cold, hard, metal chairs. I mean, come on guys, it felt like we walked into a beach bar in January. My in-laws are not young and most of the fam was dressed nicely. We were looking for a more genteel experience. With pretty music. Which is why we asked to be moved to the back courtyard.
Next time we do this, and the food was good enough that we will, we will make our reservation early enough to be in the main dining area and maybe request not-bar music. ;-)
This was my first time to the Cellar. The Downtown Newnan food scene is up and coming. I was particularly impressed with the food and farm to table ingredients. The atmosphere as sophisticated and trendy. The menu is at a great price point. I will definitely be back.
Went there for the first time on our 14th Wedding Anniversary. Great atmosphere, excellent service, liked the decor and ambiance. A little pricey for 2 people, but worth the splurge every once in a while. Would like to go back and enjoy some live music on the open deck one night.
This is a very upscale and charming restaurant. The food is pricey but excellent. There are healthy options including a couple of fish dishes and a grassfed filet. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing (old brick building and old garage next to it). Inside relaxing, and outside energetic seating. I am never disappointed. A reservation is sometimes necessary.
We go to the Cellar often, as it is one of the only upscale dining options in Newnan. The location and outdoor area are much better than the original, and they do a good job with the menu selections for both food and beverage. For some reason this weekend they seemed off. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, but the food prep took a very long time. It seemed they were shorthanded. Maybe being busy outside because the weather was nice, caused the inside to suffer.
My wife got the lamb two ways. The Lamb pops were basically a lamb chop cut in half and overdone. The risotto with braised lamb was great. I had a filet Pittsburgh Medium rare. It was a nice quality and portion, but not exactly Pittsburgh and not exactly medium rare. I had a portion of diver scallops on the side that were so salty they were barely edible. The corn pudding and creamed spinach were excellent.
For our anniversary they gave us a wonderful chocolate lava cake with ice cream.
I really want the Cellar to become a destination, and not just because it is the best upscale option in town, but because it is consistently great. It can be, and at times it does reach a very good level, but needs more care to the details.
