The Cellar Newnan Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time to the Cellar. The Downtown Newnan food scene is up and coming. I was particularly impressed with the food and farm to table ingredients. The atmosphere as sophisticated and trendy. The menu is at a great price point. I will definitely be back.
Went there for the first time on our 14th Wedding Anniversary. Great atmosphere, excellent service, liked the decor and ambiance. A little pricey for 2 people, but worth the splurge every once in a while. Would like to go back and enjoy some live music on the open deck one night.
This is a very upscale and charming restaurant. The food is pricey but excellent. There are healthy options including a couple of fish dishes and a grassfed filet. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing (old brick building and old garage next to it). Inside relaxing, and outside energetic seating. I am never disappointed. A reservation is sometimes necessary.
We go to the Cellar often, as it is one of the only upscale dining options in Newnan. The location and outdoor area are much better than the original, and they do a good job with the menu selections for both food and beverage. For some reason this weekend they seemed off. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, but the food prep took a very long time. It seemed they were shorthanded. Maybe being busy outside because the weather was nice, caused the inside to suffer.
My wife got the lamb two ways. The Lamb pops were basically a lamb chop cut in half and overdone. The risotto with braised lamb was great. I had a filet Pittsburgh Medium rare. It was a nice quality and portion, but not exactly Pittsburgh and not exactly medium rare. I had a portion of diver scallops on the side that were so salty they were barely edible. The corn pudding and creamed spinach were excellent.
For our anniversary they gave us a wonderful chocolate lava cake with ice cream.
I really want the Cellar to become a destination, and not just because it is the best upscale option in town, but because it is consistently great. It can be, and at times it does reach a very good level, but needs more care to the details.
Your front door hostess was very rude Sat. Sep. 30th 6:15 reservations. I was walked to a two top table in the corner next to the wall and was told I could only sit here because booths were reserved for 4. Well every booth there had two! I really wanted to try the food so I didn't just leave. I would have expected that as a walk in but I did make reservations. I will not be back, food was just ok.
Downtown Newnan is a great location, relaxed, not too busy, mix of families together by and old folk. Restaurant is well done, service responsive but not suffocating, food is the best around if not quite up to top "buckhead" standards in case your looking for that. Really enjoyable dinner.
Service was slow. Food was undercooked. Craft beer from the tap was 2/3 filled (due to too much foam). Womens restroom had overflowing garbage can, no toilet paper, big puddle of water from a leak that stayed there all night-had to walk thru the puddle to get to the bathroom. They over served guests, one of which was a belligerent guy who sat at our table and carried on a single run on sentence, one sided conversation to which I had to forcefully ask him to leave. He probably would have come back and tried to start a fight if his friends hadn't pulled him away from us.
Waitress was slow to refill drinks and it took a long time to track her down to pay the tab so that we could leave-felt we had to cut the night short because of the belligerent drunk who kept coming over to our table. He tried the same act with several other tables around the patio, too.
This was a rare occasion date night for us away from our kids and the night was cut short because of the overall experience at the restaurant.
Friendly welcome with a wonderful host. Waitress slow with cocktails, didn't arrive until we had almost finished our appetizer. (Place not busy) The cocktails were TERRIBLE!! Ordered manhattans, an easy to make cocktail, but was watered down , no flavor even with up charge for bourbon. Requested another one, just as bad and not sure they even remade it at all! Added a second straw and ice, but still watered down and no flavor.
Salad delivered before appetizer done, not good.
Food was very good!!! Too bad bar lousy and service mediocre for cost of meals and an upscale spot.
We were promptly seated at our reservation time. From there, it took us 2 hr 20 min to get drinks, salad, entree and dessert. Glacially slow. It took 50 minutes for entrees to come out from when we ordered them. While having already waited 25 minutes for dessert to arrive (an unimpressive apple crisp), a staff member asked if we would like our water glasses refilled and I reply "you might as well because we're probably going to be here a while longer." Staff member asked what I meant and told her that we had already been here 2 hours. She stated that she'd have the manager come over to speak with us; this never happened. Our server did comp us the dessert, which was nice of him.
Portions were small and not appropriate for an adult portion. The crab-artichoke salmon fish portion was adequate, but the SEVEN haricot verts (small green beans for those keeping score at home) and the FOUR bites of risotto were insufficient. I was more hungry when I left than when I arrived and that is not hyperbole. I would have filled up on bread had they served any.
My wife's filet was over cooked (not even a hint of pink when ordered medium well), but we were reluctant to send it back due to how long it took to arrive. Will give you that both meals overall was very hot and tasted good.
We are in no hurry to come back to this establishment and don't foresee a return visit. If we going to spend an entire evening (left house at 5:35 and returned at 10 PM) for dinner out, we will just head to Atlanta.
The food was very good. The service was friendly and enthusiastic but slow. This was our first visit, and on a weekend, however they don't seem quite geared up to handle a large number of customers. The ambiance was enjoyable and we would try them again another time.
The steak was the best we have had in Georgia. The soup of the day was outstanding. I loved the fact that when I don't want to cook that special meal, there is a place we can go for one. This was our first trip to the Cellar, but definitely will not be our last.
If all you're looking for is steak, try Longhorn; burgers? try Meat & Greet. The problem at The Cellar is in the more formal part of the restaurant the service is lacking... badly lacking, and the food is nothing special. They let empty dishes sit, never suggested dessert... never made us feel particularly welcome. Oddly, the table next to us was given a white table cloth while the rest of us went without. We'd heard good things, but were terribly disappointed.
The food was good but nothing special. I expected more of an experience for the prices. Wait staff was nice but not overly attentive which you would expect from a higher priced restaurant. Attention to detail isn't there when compared to other higher end restaurants I've been to in Atlanta. Maybe I'm just being too critical but for these prices up in ATL you can have a much better experience. Then again, if you don't want to make the drive, I guess this would suffice for Newnan. Longhorn can give you jus as good an experience for less price.
Probably the best upscale place to dine on the Southside of Atlanta. Great outdoor dining area with live music many nights and a spacious bar area . Food was excellent, good wine choices, and friendly service. Doing a great job in the downtown Newnan area. The entire area was as vibrant as I have ever seen it with a good variety of dining options. The Cellar is the most upscale of the bunch, but you can go very casual there as well.
The Cellar is the closest to fine dining in Newnan. The menu hasn't changed enough over the years. We would like to see a little more creativity. Also the table by the door is a real let down, especially for an anniversary date. When the waitress told us last time we at there, a new revamped Cellar was coming, we expected more. It has really become just ho hum. The hostess had to hunt menus to seat us?? Come on Cellar, time to update!
A great local find! My husband and I stayed in Newnan for 2 days and was pleasantly surprised to find a great place in a small quiet town. Great food, attentive staff, relaxed environment and enough selection for some organic local food. Their steaks is a must try. They also have enough sides to satisfy different taste and preference. Truly a place to try if you ever find yourself in Newnan, GA.
