The Cellar - Fullerton CA Ratings and Reviews
Outstanding venue!!! Staff was on point with the professionalism and was very friendly which added so much to our first experience here at this establishment. The food was superb. Not for a cheap date. If you bring your lady/gentlemen here they better be special because the ambiance is perfect to set the mood and have great conversation. Very cozy and intimate. If you live in Fullerton and haven’t been here, you need to make your reservation and NOW!!!!!
Thanks to Adrian and the team at "The Cellar." Many years had passed since I had come here with our Meetup Group, friends and future amazing treasured friends/family in my life. Appreciate the time, care and attention to detail on a special occasion at "The Cellar." Adrian was superb in anticipating needs, listening and satisfying the diverse needs of our group (s). Red Roses on the table brought elegance to the dining room. Thanks.
Extraordinary dinner.! Luis was our server and was extremely attentive without being hovering. Loved the starters; lobster bisque and escargot. Bisque was piping hot and creamy while escargot was served in a small copper pot with tender mushrooms and various breads.
Wine list was extensive and something for every price point. The dinner was generously portioned, we had the lamb shank and lobster thermidor. Finished with a shared soufflé with grand marnier sauce.
A good, calm, classy type atmosphere.
You can tell that the food and drinks were made with passion.
Our server knew the right amount of time to be friendly and talk but would mostly leave you be to enjoy your cocktails and food. The server always had a close eye on things so she wouldn't be a bother to your table.
Had a wonderful time
As always, The Cellar was perfect for an evening out. While items came out a bit more quickly than usual, (entree came out before appetizers were cleared) we did not feel rushed. The food is always solid, and the lobster bisque is to die for. They have an extensive Whisky list that has a global focus, and cocktails are always well made. We will be back whenever the opportunity allows!
This was an anniversary dinner and we got there early to have a celebratory drink. The drink menu was outstanding, and we both ordered something a bit out of our comfort zone. We were not disappointed!! We ordered Chateaubriand and Salmon, both were excellent. The decor is unique and feels like you're actually in an underground wine cellar. The negative to the decor is that everything echoes and it was quite loud. We could very easily hear other conversations. Otherwise, it was a perfect place to celebrate!
We made a reservation for 9pm, got there on time and waited for someone to take care of us. We didn't get a table 15-20mins after. A lady staff apologized that's it's a Friday night and some people are lingering around. Understandable. We got seated and Andrew, our server was very welcoming& made us forget about how much we waited . He was very knowledgeable of the restaurant and what they're serving for the night from drinks to desserts. Since it's our first time, he recommended some of his personal favorites and we ordered the same exact thing. The escargot was served untraditionally (unshelled) but it wow'd both my bf and I with the sauce they made it with. We can't stop dipping our bread in it. I'm a lamb person myself and they cooked the lamb perfectly the way I wanted it to be. He suggested to try the hot chocolate soufflé with eggnog anglaise. I'm not a fan of chocolate or eggnog at all but with those 2 combined, it's glorious! I'm glad I tried it and my boyfriend was so grateful I took him to The Cellar for his birthday. It was definitely a lovely night! Thank you!
I love this place, the food and service are always great. Dining at The Cellar always feels like you're being transported back in time and that why I'm always sad to leave. I can't say enough good things about this place and I always recommend it to everyone I know.
Our Waiter was the absolute unsensitive guy, they have this thing about wanting to speak like french people, with the accent, the gestures.....all worng, my first language is french and we dont act like wanna bees.... French is about the special food, the special sauce, and thats it !!!!
If i go there and i spend on 3 couples 600 dol, the food better be FRENCH !!!!! and not wanna be french !!!!!! our waiter was oh man a disaster !!!!!! Next visit would never be again to the cellar, just to a real french restaurant !!!!
One word: EXQUISITE. my boyfriend and I made reservations for 5:30 in the dining room. We were so excited to dress up and finally have a nice romantic dinner. The cellar is the definition of Victorian, romantic, upscale, and intimate. service was amazing and our server almost reminded me of a butler!
FOOD: we started with the lobster bisque which was phenomenal, however a little salty but it didn't bother me much. For our main course we both tried the Coq Au Vin which was the chicken and it was delicious, it fell right off the bone. For dessert we got the chocolate soufflé which had to be requested in advance because it takes thirty minutes to make. I do recommend the creme Brûlée instead though. It's much more tastier.
Drinks: AMZING cocktails which are hand crafted and just delicious.
The best part: not only is the food served on silver platters and covers, but our server gave us a tour of the wonderful cellar and showed us the table where Elizabeth Taylor got proposed to for the second time! He offered us the table and let us sit there! It was a dream.
GO TO THE CELLAR!!!!!!
We celebrated New Year’s evening at The Celar. The food was exceptional - everyone at our table was blown away by the Lobster bisque!!
However, the BEST part of the evening was our interaction with Andrew, our waiter. He was absolutely amazing. When you go, ask for Andrew. He delighted us with the history of this very charming, cozy restaurant that once was the hub of all celebrity activity!! He also was the one who almost begged for us to try the Lobster bisque. Thankfully, we listened to his suggestions!!
We even were seated right next to the booth where Elizabeth Taylor was engaged with Richard Burton — the second time!!
While several couples occupied a four top, when we requested three of us locate at a four top, we were pressured to sit at a table with 4 other people. They acquiesced reluctantly to give us our own table. No one occupied the seats we did not take by the end of the night. The server was over occupied, stopped by every 30 minutes or so, duplicated our drink order without asking. The first course choices were all cold, the beef tartare was bland. The lobster bisque was good. My Chilean Seabass was loaded with bones in the first bite, sent it back and the server returned with another order without asking what I wanted. Asked to speak to a manager as this level of service was disappointing for New Year's Eve. We had been there this past October and it was great. I think they were not staffed appropriately for their New Year's event. The manager was extremely defensive and non-sympathetic about our experience, provided a very modest discount. The bill was still over $500 for 3 people even with the lousy experience.
Ambience & quality of food is awesome. Every little bit of French dining is presented. Never rushed the table to make room for next reservation. No wonder it’s so hard to make reservation at this establishment. Five Stars through & through. My only recommendation to the chef... lighten up on the salt. No doubt the chef is probably using high quality salt, but too much or haven’t been mixed well does put chill or overwhelming diner taste buds. Highly recommended, if don’t mind the .... but with quality ingredients. Do enjoy the evening while waiting for the food being prepared. It does take a while , but no issue with me. Do be prepared for 2+ hours of dining pleasure. If you’re in a rush, then this is not your place.
Must have is the chocolate soufflé with salted caramel for dessert. For some reason the salted in the caramel is perfectly matched with the chocolate. Go figure.
I love the ambiance of this restaurant, such an intimate feel. It's the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. I adore the handcrafted cocktails, especially the daily off the cuff cocktails, as well as the extensive wine list. The food never fails to impress either, the lobster bisque is a must try!!!!
Ambience was lovely as usual and our server, Adrian, was outstanding. The food Turbot lacked any flavor as did the sauce (tomato) and accompanying cucumber...the entire dish had a slimey consistency. Steaks, quail and mushroom risotto were all very good. Buche de Noel spong was dry.
We chose to dine here because of it's location and because we have dined here before. When we walked in, there was a damp, somewhat musty smell by the door. We did not smell it at our table and assume it's because the building is so old and the location is in the cellar! The wait for our drinks was rather long. We assumed because "the Best Bartender in Town" was on duty and the place was busy with holiday groups. As always, the food was excellent! The lobster bisque was tasty, however on this night, it could've been a bit warmer. We tried the Chateaubriand for the first time and were not disappointed. It was cooked perfectly, paired with both a Bearnaise Sauce and/or Demi-Glas sauce. Both were excellent! We chose the roasted Brussels sprouts for our side dish but probably could've skipped them. They were delicious but the veggies on the plate were more than enough. For dessert we had a chocolate souffle with caramel sauce and a creme brule. Both were decadent! Our only small gripe was that the corkage was quite high. At least our wine was decanted and it made it a bit more tolerable. Other than that it was the fine-dining we always expect from this Orange County landmark!
Drinks were fantastic, and service was stellar. I had heard from friends that this place is greet doe drinks and that the food was only ok, and overpriced for the quality.. that was spot on. We had a very mediocre cheese plate with nothing special in it at all, and ordered the chateaubriand and lobster thermador for our entrees.
The steak was cooked well, but nothing special and the lobster and all its sides were colder than even room temperature, and half of the lobster was raw in the center.. still grey and very chewy. It seemed like they cooked the lobster 30 min before the steak and it just sat out waiting for the other entree to be done and got cold in the meantime. For what we paid, it should have been perfect. I'd rather go to Morton's for a $300 meal.
Wee went with friends and enjoyed the ambience, and I would go back for drinks in a heartbeat.. but i would never waste money on food there again... :(
One of my very favorite OC restaurants, but don’t come if you’re expecting or needing a fast meal , especially on a weekend evening. We had an 830 reservation and didn’t get out of the restaurant until close to midnight. Thankfully, we were in great company and NOT in any hurry, but it truly was ridiculously slow. Amazing cuisine though, so bring your patience and a chatty companion or two.
Amazing place for a romantic dinner, and wine never knew they been around for 40-yrs plus. Definitely worth coming here. I was very pleased with our server and the food quality. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something unique and special. Great customer service and attention to detail.
