Awesome restaurant for a romantic dinner. The ambiance is just so nice, you wont regret to bring your date here. it is located in Fullerton, driving there you wont believe what a great restaurant is hidden underground.
If you’re looking for a noisy bar scene, this is it. No way is this a quiet, romantic or upscale restaurant. The management does not enforce their dress code; we saw t-shirts galore, camouflage shorts and biker jackets. Many tables were used for only cocktails not for meals. The server was nice but unknowledgeable about proper service. He didn’t bring menus until after I asked for them. He cleared all our plates including bread dishes in anticipation of main entrees. He did not offer water until after 10 minutes of being seated. The neighboring table was obnoxious; women getting drunk and flailing their arms about while screaming with laughter. My son’s filet mignon was excellent but our Chateaubriand was dry and flavorless. I had to send my plate back because it was served barely warm. For $100pp you would think they serve hot food on heated plates. We will not be back. Interesting decor but I think it’s far less interesting kitsch than the Madonna Inn. Save your money for a true restaurant unless you are going there solely for the cocktails.
Wonderful waiter!! Jimmy was very accommodating and funny. The place, overall is really dark, I had trouble reading the menu, but Jimmy gave me a flash light!
Great meal. The kids enjoyed it as well and the team made sure to make them feel comfortable.
The elk tenderloin & lobster bisque were excellent.
Exactly the ambiance I was looking for, very cozy quiet and secluded. Service was spotty, and sometimes over blown. Food was excellent. Very positive experience.... but at a price and worth it.
This review is for the Mother's day prix fixe menu
-Great location, ambiance/decor, service, and generally good tasting food
-Easy complimentary valet parking
-Poor value, small portions, overloaded on desert. At $59 per person, you get (for example), a green pea soup, french toast with bacon, and a s'mores dessert - a bit underwhelming for the price
Would return to try their regular menu, but definitely not again for the Mother's day course.
This is our "go to"
restaurant. Consistently a 10 in every category. You'll never be disappointed
Overall everything was great, this was my 3th time there the only thing got me a bit frustrated this time was the time to get the food. We had a reservation at 7:30 got there @ 7:10 order our food around 7:45 and got our main dishes at almost 9 pm plus another 25 to get desert and wasn’t even busy like previous times
All the staff was very friendly and personable and made and recognized and helped us celebrate us being there.
Excellent, thoroughly enjoyed our first experience here. We will be coming back!
We celebrated my birthday and our waiter was wonderful!
Outstanding. Among the best, if not the best, cocktails in Orange County, near-perfect service, and great food - the new salmon dish inside of the pastry was amazing. And of course the unique ambiance is always an enjoyable change from other restaurants. We'll be back!
Everything was amazing about this magical place. Service was quick and professional. Food was fantastic and worth the price. I can definitely see myself making this my place for special occasions.
I took my husband here to celebrate his birthday. Amazing service, food, and location. I especially love the history of The Cellar. If you call ahead you can reserve John Wayne’s Favorite booth or the the booth Burton purposed to Elizabeth Taylor for the second time. When you go, it is a little hard to find, but when you get there it is amazing!
We had a lovely dinner celebrating my birthday. The food was outstanding however, our server, who was a young man, while being pleasant overlooked several aspects of our service. We brought two wines; a 2013 Kistler Durell Vineyard Chardonnay and a 2005 Domaine de L'Arlot Nuit St Georges, Premier Crew.
The server apparently was not familiar with either wine, questioning us about what kind of wine the Kistler was. He mentioned the specials and to remember to order souffles early. Our entrees seemed to take a long time to arrive and the duck breast entree I orderer, while well presented seemed have sat in the kitchen for some time and was only luke warm when it arrived. We reminded the server about our souffles as we were finishing our entrees and he thanked us for reminding him. However, when we were finished our entrees he never returned to ask if any of us wanted desserts as only two small souffles had been ordered. We sat at the table under the chandelier in the main dining room.
Really, an all-around perfect evening at the Cellar!
The service is superb, the decor and mood is relaxed but elegant. Somehow, even with a roomful of diners, you feel like you’re in your own private space!
The food is excellent ... we had the escargots appetizer (I’m still dreaming about that sauce), Waldorf salad (light and fresh), Maple Leaf duck (best duck I’ve ever enjoyed), and elk steak (when they tell you there is no gaminess, believe them ... it’s great!)
It’s a unique experience I’d highly recommend!
Marc has been there 22 years and did a very good job. A real hidden gem that must be experienced.
It was our 22nd wedding anniversary and we wanted to go out and treat ourselves to a wonderful dinner. Our neighbor had told us about The Cellar, so we decided to give the Cellar a try. We made reservations and were looking forward to our visit. We check the web sight for the dress code which said no flip flops , tank tops etc. Upon our arrival (we were a few minutes early) we barely
enjoyed a cocktail at the bar while waiting for our table. Once we were sited at our table I notice a gentleman across from us wearing flip flops, tank top and cargo shorts and I was taken aback he also had a child who was about 9 months old, who would start crying, which was a little annoying. On the positive side our server Jimmy was great. The food fantastic. However if you are going to have a dress code, abide by it and I'm not sure what to do about kids under 5. Overall we got the up sell from Jimmy but a soft touch it was. He was the best. We will be dining at The Cellar again.
I was a great venue to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. Andrew was a fantastic!
Everything was fine until the waiter told us we had to stop laughing because someone complained. We were 6 women, enjoying the evening, very classy-type and we were told to stop laughing? What organization does that? If it wasn't for the great food and history behind the place, I would not every go back. That's what is saving them.
Let me just state that we were not boisterous, we were just laughing normal.
The service was slow which for us was fine, since we did not want to be rushed. Their wine list was extensive and good. We started with a Proseco and had a bottle of Chateau du Pape Rhone Red Blend which was excellent. My wife had a petit filet and I had the elk steak. Both were perfectly cooked. We finished the dinner with a chocolate souffle with a grand marnier cream sauce. We had ordered a grand marnier souffle, but someone erred. However, it was excellent. For a special occasion which this was, it was an excellent meal and would recommend the restaurant.
This was a great find. Randomly picked this restaurant for a place for dinner. It was so good. The service, menu, nice and dark ambiance. Nothing negative to say. Oh!!!! Had the chocolate soufflé with salted Carmel!!! So yummy.
We’re going back.
This was our 4th year celebrating our anniversary at the Cellar and each year it has been amazing. This year our waiter was Phil and he was both nice and hilarious. He brought out a complimentary creme brulee to celebrate our night and it was well received! I will for sure be coming back next year for our next anniversary!
Everything was very lovely. Professional staff very accommodating
Nice location but menu selection is not great and prices are very high. All employees we encountered were very friendly and helpful.
We visited on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was very quiet which was fine as we were a group catching up after not seeing each other for a few months.
The food was cooked and served very well.
The service was slow, especially with the cocktails we ordered, although not a big problem I did wonder how they would cope if the restaurant had been busier.
Definately a great place to eat in the area and will be back next time i’m In town.
I have heard great things about the cellar restaurant and really looked forward to going. We went on our 30th anniversary. The ambience was awesome, I loved the Decour, the music, the feel of the restaurant. Our server Jimmy was very nice, but the service was extremely slow, we felt ignored and they forgot our soup, and our soufflé Did not turn out, so the chef wanted to do a new one, wasn’t impressed. Our entree was tasty, but we felt like there was a VIP table of 4 that’s was being tended to, so we were the forgotten couple, and service took 3 hours .. Bummer because we won’t be back
The bar and service were the winners here, which truly is a shame as I had high expectations for the food. While the menu was one of the most limited I’ve seen on a non-holiday, our server was excellent, friendly and very well versed in the offerings. The cocktails were next level and the lobster bisque was the best I ever had. Those high points aside, there was nothing remotely special about the main courses. We both ordered steaks and agreed we could have had better at Ruth’s Chris. The sides again were nothing special. The deserts were a massive disappointment with zero flavor. If you can’t impress with me with everyday menu items, then I simply can’t justify the experience as being anything other than mediocre. Beware parking is a massive inconvenience. Save yourself the time and trouble and go somewhere else. I’m sure there are some great bars with excellent mixologists you could visit for the experience we had. At the end of the day, this is a restaurant that’s food is lacking. You will probably enjoy the meal and experience overall much better somewhere else. I’m truly sorry I couldn’t give kudos past the point we hit our soup.
Fabulous service from Andrew! Fun romantic ambiance even tho I generally like view restaurants. The food was delicious! We didn’t leave for almost 3 hours. Thank you Cellar restaurant for a memorable date night from this Seattle couple!!!
The atmosphere was amazing! Me and my boyfriend had such a good time! In addition, our server Patrick was wonderful as well. He was very attentive and made our night very enjoyable.
Great spot for a romantic date. Drinks are delicious! Would have rated food higher, just took a little too long. Staff was attentive and offered good recommendations. Would like to come back again.
The food was delicious, but the service is a little concerning. My friend was having a diabetic episode, and when I asked the bartender for orange juice, he was happy to help, but the 2nd time, he said he could only give me a little because he was “running out”. I was a bit shocked, my friends blood sugar was low, we were on the brink of calling an ambulance and the bartenders main concern was how much juice was left? I asked our server a few times for bread and the 3rd time I asked for an ambulance. He seemed shocked, said ok, and left. A few minutes later the orange juice seemed to help my friend so he decided to cancel the request of an ambulance. When I told our waiter to cancel, it didn’t seem like he had already called them. We asked our waiter for more juice, he left, a few short minutes came back and said he didn’t have orange juice and asked us what other juice. My friend, already crying just wanted any kind of juice, any kind of sugar. He brought out sugar cubes, my friend ate them like chips and he felt much better after. We decided to stay and enjoy the rest of the night. No manager came to check on us, and we were charged $10 for 1 1/2 glasses of orange juice. I hope that in the future, the staff can be a little more considerate in a situation such as this, and a manager would come by to check on someone who was on the brink of passing out in their restaurant. I hope that this can be a learning curve and the staff can treat it for what it is, an emergency, and not worry about how much juice is left. As drastic as this might sound, his life was at stake, it felt as if no one seemed to notice or truly help us in the end.
The food was good and our sever was excellent. We enjoyed our rib-eye steaks accompanied by lobster bisque, which was excellent, and salads. We also enjoyed different red wines. The booths are a little lumpy and uncomfortable.
Fantastic service and spectacular food. I will be returning for years to come.
It's been MANY years since we were here last but it did not disappoint. Andrew was our server and he was beyond FABULOUS! He was so attentive, engaging, helpful and efficient. He made excellent recommendations and everyone was extremely happy with everything. All the food from starters (soup, salad), entrees to dessert was FANTASTIC! The Souffle's were DELICIOUS! The cocktails were unique and yummy! The Cellar is a bit challenging to find because it is underground and you definitely feel like you are in a Cellar which we found unique and fun but not all people might like it. It could be a bit claustrophobic for some but we loved it! The wine list was surprisingly small but we enjoyed the wines we ordered. I would ask for Andrew if you go there, he was Spectacular and truly added to our experience there.
Mixed feelings here but ultimately decided
Our first time. Loved the dark and intimate atmosphere. Service and food was wonderful. Had a couple hiccups (forgot hubbys drink and Mac n cheese was super salty) but other than that, it was wonderful. We would definitely go back.
