We had the most wonderful server whose name was Alex. He not only gave us excellent customer service but also made us feel at home. The lighting as well as the decorations of the place was absolutely fantastic. It was a place filled with amazing food, beautiful decorations, world class customer service, and above all nice soft music. This was my first time dining here and I will definitely come back more often.
The quality and taste of the food was amazing. Delicious and well prepared. My dish was a bit cold. Service was great overall. First round of drinks took awhile but other than that it was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable on the food and drinks.
The food was delicious! I have not tried the Cellar in the past because I assumed it would be typical high-end steakhouse fare. But the food here was tasty, with depth of flavor and not as butter-laden and rich.
Everything we tried was uniformly delicious (steak tartare, escargot, lobster bisque, chateaubriand, rib eye, creme brulee, pink champagne sorbet, vanilla bean ice cream) but the standouts were the steak tartare, rib eye and the sorbet.
Highly recommend for special occasion!
We have been to The Cellar many, many times over the past 10 years and it never disappoints. It is our "go-to" place for special occasions. We were there on February 16th for a post Valentine's Day dinner. The food was fantastic as usual. Mark was our server (he's put up with us before) and he was helpful and attentive, exactly the kind of service you want and expect in a fine dining restaurant. We will definitely be back again.
Normally this place is good. But the Valentine's prefix was just decent. (We had NO choice but to order from the prefix menu even though it was after Valentine's day) The food wasn't bad, but it was the same quality you'd get from a much cheaper restaurant, and we paid $300. I ordered rare filet mignon, but it was overcooked mostly. The bread was solid as a rock on the outside. The drinks were fine, but not as good as other high quality cocktails for less than $15. (Try Mi Piaci in Pasadena)
I just feel like I got hustled for my money this time. The low rating is merited because of the high price.
If you want to charge high, that's totally fine as long as your food and experience can back it up.
Great place for drink and/or dinner. Especially great place for a date. I am not sure how the regular manu is priced, but went for Valentine’s Day and it was more expensive than I anticipated. It was still very nice and great food, but the most I’ve ever spent on a dinner for 2 with only one drink each...$300 total. I’ve been to a quaint spot in LA area on Valentine’s Day last year and it was ½ the price. Still not sure how I feel about it. Everything else was amazing!
The Valentine’s Day fixed menu was great.
I first discovered this adored gem about 4 years ago when it was recommended to me by a single female friend as her favorite place to go for a drink without every barfly hitting on her. While this is true, I adore the Cellar for far more than that. When I first walked into the Cellar, I felt like I was transported into another world. A world that could only be crafted by Fantasy or Disney imagineers (and now knowing the history of the place, it's amazing how spot on that impression was from the beginning). My hobby is hunting down unique and cool bars. I've quite literally have been to hundreds across the nation, yet EVERY time I walk into the Cellar, I find myself once again engulfed in the same childlike adoration for the place as I felt the first time. Given their decadent chocolate soufflé, is there any reason not to feel like a kid? Luckily they also have some of the best mixology in Orange County, which makes me very happy to be an adult!
This was a really disappointing experience. Was really looking forward to it, as I’ve lived in Fullerton for a couple of decades and had never eaten dinner there.
I’m forgiving of the waiter, as he clearly cared, but I’m hoping that it’s simply true that he was inexperienced.
It was a fixed menu for Valentine’s Day, which really added to the disappointment. Before I say anything else, the waiter asked us how everything was and we shared the following and to their credit, the cut the bill in half.
- The Cream of Asparagus soup was bland beyond belief. I was a bit embarrassed to ask for salt, and the guy that I asked was irritated that I asked him for anything.
- It took 5 minutes to bring us spoons for the soup, in which tie the half inch of soup in the bowls got cold.
- My wife’s fillet was just ok. Certainly not exceptional, but I would not be commenting here if that was the end of it.
- The Lamb was a really, really poor piece of meat. Over-cooked, very dry, very gristly.
- We were the only ones in the restaurant to not be offered bread, which we didn’t even recognize as being the case until after dinner.
- We were dying of thirst and were checked on very infrequently. Trying to not be intrusive in the quiet restaurant, I had to try to ask three people to get us water before somebody took notice.
The bottom line is that had this been a meal at what is theoretically a lesser restaurant, like Taps, or something along those lines, I would have been very disappointed as well. I thought this place was supposed to be special. Hopefully we just had a far poorer than typical experience, but I don’t see myself going back without a very good reason to do so.
Took my wife here for our very first Valentine’s Day date as a married couple.
Our waiter Andrew was awesome and very personable. My wife and I had a Valentine’s Day dinner that was very delicious.
Thank you Mark, our waiter very efficient, spontaneous and worried about us. This was a very romantic dinner. The food delicious. 100% recommended.
Four of us dined on Valentine's Day 2019 for a fixed price of $99 per person. While the menu choices and food were excellent overall, only question was the filet mignon. It was excellent, but not USD prime. Therefore it was not as tender as prime. Excellent atmosphere and service.
1st time dining at The Cellar for my Valentine and drive all the way from Pasadena ... We ordered Surf & Turf and my wife ordered the Sea Bass, the food was good but not what we expected - with the price tag of $99 per person, we were kinda disappointed ... but Adrian, the waiter was very awesome...
Beautiful, well prepared food. Was unaware that they had a prix fixe menu only on the night we went for $99, so I was stuck with some items that I didn’t enjoy. Definitely overpriced unless you love beet salad.
Our server was professional and courteous. The server at the next table was loud and shared several personal stories with the unfortunate guests next to us, including one about her dog pooping in the house. Not so classy.
Nice atmosphere and fun going down into the underground cellar.
Not my first visit and it was just as great as I remembered. Just simply FANFREAKINGTASTIC
My service was superb, the waiter was full of knowledge about the food menu and cocktail drinks. I for one highly recommend the Artic Rose cocktail. I ate the Maple leaf Duck, the meal was absolutely delightful
Food was ok. Service was below average. My wife and I waited for about an hour to get our food. The waiter asked us once, in that time frame if we would like to order another cocktail (our glasses were empty for a while). When we finally asked about our order it arrived immediately (wife's steak was cooked but cold).
only complaint: I can have ice in my drinks because of tooth/gum sensitivity and when ordering a ginger beer it was not a full glass...as if the bartender thought I was getting too much ginger beer...I felt slighted and chose not to remark...I am a 68 yr old male w/my wife first time customers
We were celebrating an early valentine’s day and we could not have picked a better spot. I had the snapper (catch of the day), and it was fantastic! There wasn’t too much noise and the service was fabulous! I highly recommend the “flower power” cocktail if you like something thats a perfect combination of spicy, sweet, and tart!
Customer service was great.the only inconvenience was that they were out of 2 items in their drink menu and they were out of foie gras.
It was heat had a good time the food, service was amazing.
My wife and I visiting to celebrate Valentine’s Day early. Everything about the Cellar was excellent from the ambiance to the service. Adrian, our server, made great suggestions, and the food was delicious and cooked perfectly. We will certainly be back, and the Cellar may be one of our new go to spots!
Loved the space and the service! Cocktails are uniques and the presentation is a nice touch.
Food was great. Service was great. Can't wait to go back.
Amazing food, great waiter. The lobster bisque is a must have if you come. Dip the house breads in it and you are in for a treat.
A little pricey, but great food, drinks and ambiance.
The chateubriand and lobster bisque was phenomenal
Excellent food, service. Chateaubriand was incredible.
Excellent service great food our server Phillip did an excellent job providing a great experience.
Everything was great! You won't be disappointed. I recommend the New York strip.
Service was good but I do not recommend the boneless ribeye steak. It was very small, thin and way overcooked. I ordered it medium but it was well done on most parts.
If you haven’t made Valentine’s Day reservations this is the place. You won’t be disappointed. Ask for booth 38.
The chateaubriand was wonderful. But there is so much more.
Varied menu - I had elk! European (French) presentations of food. Excellent service.
We celebrated our 50th with friends and all agreed it was the best evening we've celebrated in a long time.
We enjoyed original cocktails, out outstanding food and amazing deserts. Did I mention the Lobster bisque,
makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
We brought our own wine and paid the price ($35.00) corkage, we'll know better next time and the fee didn't spoil a thing.
Thank you, looking forward to our next visit. Perhaps Valentines Day.
Really amazing find. Like being in a romantic cave. Waiter was outstanding, in relationship with us and not a robot. Food was beautifully prepared. Nice night.
I am never disappointed when I come to the Cellar. I especially love it when I am seated in the grotto area, which is a small quiet rather private section of the restaurant. This time I had the bone marrow appetizer. It was perfectly done. The filet was prepared exactly as ordered and delicious. For those who like special little touches, the mashed potatoes were piped in a very attractive pattern on the plate. For dessert there are lots of options. This time we ordered the souffle for. The options are vanilla or chocolate and then a choice of various sauces. This time we had lime sauce which had just the right balance of tangy and sweet. The ambiance of The Cellar is romantic, candlelit and quiet so that conversation is easy. Our waiter was perfect. Friendly and knowledgeable but knew when to leave us alone. I would highly recommend this place particularly for special occasions.
Wonderful Girls Night Out at The Cellar. Outstanding food, impeccable service. Our server Mark was amazing!
Delightful! Look forward to next time!
First visit and Last. Made a reservation a week in advance for 5:30pm. When we arrived the restaurant was empty. We were told we would be seated in 6 minutes so we had to sit over in a tight bar area with 3 small tables. We were seated at 5:40 and there were only 2 other couples in front of us that had been seated before us....why?
I have never been to a restaurant with reservations and it taking 2 hours to finish dinner. We waited so long between courses!
The wait staff pushed their "spirit" concoctions constantly which was a total turn off. It was so dark that you couldnt read the menu without a flashlight.
The prices are ridiculously overpriced. And should take notes from places like Flemings, Orange Mining and Orange Hill all of which are places I would rather dine than ever set foot again at the Cellar.
How come you didnt have any women waitresses?
3 stars at best! Dont be fooled by all the other reviews!
