A wonderful little gem in downtown Wheaton just 2 blocks from the Metra. Established in 2007, the bistro brings the best of locally sourced ingredients. The bistro prepares a fish, meat and soup feature weekly to accompany the seasonal menu. A mindfully crafted wine list, fresh cocktails and beer selections pair well with the menu. Casual ambiance, outdoor sidewalk dining, and a bit of a European vibe, create a romantic environment. Occasional live music and wine tastings, the bistro will become your favorite go to place in Wheaton.

Our waiter provided very poor service, took a significant amount of time to serve us, and failed to take away used dishes and refill our water unless we asked. One dish was apparently left in the kitchen allowing it to get cold. That dish appeared to be reheated by some means leaving it with a butane flavor. My sandwich, which was supposed to be hot, was cold. The restaurant was not crowded, so we are not sure why our food was delayed. We were disappointed becauset we had been to this restaurant on other occasions and the food and service were very good.

We were told they "were having issues with OpenTable" and suggested we sit at the bar, even though there was an open two top. That table never got filled! Bacon wrapped dates were burned. Bartender was friendly and wine was good.

We went to the Cellar Bistro with another couple on a Saturday night. We had a 6:45pm reservation and were seated promptly. It was our first time there, the other couple had eaten there before. It is a small intimate restaurant. We waited several minutes for our waitress to come over. We finally flagged her down to take our order. My wife and I ordered the beet salad. It was excellent. Unfortunately, that was the only thing good about the meal. After finishing our salads, we once again waited several minutes for our waitress to return to clear the table and take our order for the main course. Once again, we finally had to flag her down.

After placing our order it took almost an hour before our food came out. I ordered the Bistro Burger, my wife the filet sliders, the other couple ordered pork medallions and blackened tuna. I was brought the wrong meal, my wife's sliders were over cooked, and the medallions were cold, the blackened tuna was OK. My wife sent her's back. When I finally received the correct meal it was also cold. They brought my wife's sliders back out and again they were over cooked. At this point she said forget it. They did apologize and besides not charging us for her meal they also charged us 1/2 price for the medallions and gave us a free beer. Unfortunately, that doesn't change the poor dining experience.

Had a good dinner. There were some problems however. They did not have enough of the beer on their menu for our group. Meaning we consumed the last two bottles. If you don't have it you can't sell it. The beer was not cold because of some cooler problem the week before. I really hope they get their basics back. The menu is good for your first few visits but they really need to update the dinner selections and their wine and beer list.

We love this hidden gem. Small and relatively quiet. Great cocktail, beer, and wine list. Delicious food.

We have been here a number of times. Nice, quiet place with solidly average food. Went there this time when someone mentioned that they may have finally changed their menu a bit. Menu did not change. My recommendation would be to have more creativity in their menu--change it up a bit from time to time to keep the restaurant a draw.

My wife & I went on New Yrs Eve and had a wonderful time. The food was good, wasn't particularly noisy. Service was a bit slow, but that was understandable due to the fact the house was full and there were only 2 servers. All in all a very pleasurable experience; my wife and I have been there several times in the past and the experience has always been good.

Unfortunately for New Years Eve they were short staffed. It affected the service we received, but we didn’t let it bother us. They were still friendly and tried to accommodate as best they could.

Cellar Bistro needs to update their menu, which they haven't changed since opening. I think the whole restaurant could use an update. Compared to their neighbors on Hale Street, their decor is a bit shabby, especially the restrooms. For the prices charged, patrons don't want to see racks of supplies or half framed photos on walls. The food needs some attention as well. My seared tuna was overcooked and the bacon wrapped dates mushy. The waitstaff, while friendly and kind, could use a bit of training.

Our pizza and salads were good along with the appies. Their menu has been reworked as well as their wine offerings. Sitting in the bar area is always fun. You can meet new people and get into some interesting conversations. There are always a good sampling of younger people as well as older to keep the subject matter interesting.

Normally we really enjoy Cellar Bistro. This last visit though was somewhat disappointing.
The service was not good....waitress did not pay attention to drink refills, other requests, bringing the check etc. My favorite item on the menu is Grilled Salmon salad...normally this is delicious...this time the salmon was overdone...(even though I asked to it to be served medium) and the dressing was not the same at all. Apparently even though it was on the menu, the dressing was not prepared correctly for the dinner order.

Service was attentive and allowed plenty of time for decisions and conversations. Manager was attentive and friendly. Appetizers were delicious we and plentiful. The salmon and the crab cakes are highly. recommended.

Think our waiter may have been knew. Maybe not, but there was a definite miscommunication. My husband and Inborh ordered small salads (different kinds) and a pizza to share. My husband got the small he ordered. I got the regular dinner size with chicken that I did not order. I’m weird but I don’t like meat and lettuce mixed. Needless to say, could not eat the pizza. Not having ordered that before I just though they had generous salad portions. It was when we got the bill we noticed the charge for the full size salad. Should have argued my point, but since I ate the whole salad, didn’t think Ibshould. Usually have no problems in this restaurant . That being said, they need to change up their menu. It’s been the same since we started going there when it opened. It’s a limited dinner menu to begin with.

We love to sit at the bar, watch TV and people. The new pizza dough is great. The beers are cold and the wine is good. Between 6pm to 7:30pm make a reservation. Hopefully in the winter they will bring back their moist chocolate cake they used to have available. The cappuccino was perfect to top off the meal.

Another very enjoyable experience at Cellar Bistro...this special small quaint and delicious choice of clean fresh foods, is always one that comes to mind...It just gets nicer and nicer as I experience the opposite in other restaurants locally...They are noisy, brusque service, lack luster food piled on or so skimpy as to hide the common elements of the fare...You could almost think you are in Italy...yes, I know it is a Bistro with french flare but it can be enjoyed in either country's atmosphere! Merci and Chin Chin!

It is a pleasant restaurant, with a nice pasta dish. Fairly reasonable prices. However despite this the menu is fairly limited. The ambience is gentle, and the staff friendly. I would recommend it as a date on a budget.
