The Cellar Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Think our waiter may have been knew. Maybe not, but there was a definite miscommunication. My husband and Inborh ordered small salads (different kinds) and a pizza to share. My husband got the small he ordered. I got the regular dinner size with chicken that I did not order. I’m weird but I don’t like meat and lettuce mixed. Needless to say, could not eat the pizza. Not having ordered that before I just though they had generous salad portions. It was when we got the bill we noticed the charge for the full size salad. Should have argued my point, but since I ate the whole salad, didn’t think Ibshould. Usually have no problems in this restaurant . That being said, they need to change up their menu. It’s been the same since we started going there when it opened. It’s a limited dinner menu to begin with.
We love to sit at the bar, watch TV and people. The new pizza dough is great. The beers are cold and the wine is good. Between 6pm to 7:30pm make a reservation. Hopefully in the winter they will bring back their moist chocolate cake they used to have available. The cappuccino was perfect to top off the meal.
Another very enjoyable experience at Cellar Bistro...this special small quaint and delicious choice of clean fresh foods, is always one that comes to mind...It just gets nicer and nicer as I experience the opposite in other restaurants locally...They are noisy, brusque service, lack luster food piled on or so skimpy as to hide the common elements of the fare...You could almost think you are in Italy...yes, I know it is a Bistro with french flare but it can be enjoyed in either country's atmosphere! Merci and Chin Chin!
Mushroom soup was delicious. Grilled romaine Caesar salad was a little hard to eat I probably wouldn't order that again. Great drinks. Beet burger very good. It also was hard to eat on a bun. However most veggies burgers are like that. It was very tasty. Would like a couple more vegetarian choices.
Is a fantastic place to eat outside when the weather is nice, however, weather didn't permit. Yet still, the cozy dining area makes for optimum ambiance for date or a bite to eat with friends. One of the finer dining options in Wheaton. I wouldn't recommend this location for large groups. The setting is perfect for very well-prepared food for an intimate gathering. Menu rotates so no point commenting on the food details other than the selection was very good. Good wine selection or a $20 corking fee.
Cellar Bistro is one of our favorite restaurants. This night we went with another couple who had heard me talk about the restaurant but had yet to go. The bistro duo appetizer is a favorite of ours. The pimento cheese spread is really good. I was hugely disappointed to see that the wedge salad was removed from the menu. I know it's a simple menu item but I order it every time. The blue cheese was always the best and adding steak to it made it the perfect meal with a glass of red wine. I hope they bring it back soon.
We've been eating at Cellar bistro for several years now and have always had a great experience and delicious food. This last time around, for our 6 year wedding anniversary it was good, but not great. First of all, they were decently busy, it was a Saturday night and had 4 ppl total on the floor, meaning 1 buser and 3 other women that were server/hostess and bartender, that's it. Now I know it isn't a big place, but they were busting their butts and no manger was in sight, for the 2 hours we were there. My $28 filet that was supposed to be medium, came out well done and there was at least 20 minutes between our second course and entree, no wonder my steak was over done! The server was lovely and gave us free desserts. However, management should've stepped up and helped his crew out. As a server for over 10 years it was a poorly ran night for a great dining place.
I gave three stars for food because I had to click it. We left the restaurant shortly after arriving and we were so happy that we did. When you walk in, you are hit by two sensations--the smell of dirty wet rags and freezing cold air from fans everywhere. I'm sure the fans are to mask the smell. We ordered a glass of wine just to give us some time while we looked elsewhere. The table cloth was dirty. The rose I ordered was bad--it tasted like the bottle had been open a while. We will not return.
My family and I were celebrating an important event: dropping my daughter off for her first year in college. It was a Friday night, and we were interested in The Cellar Bistro because it (a) had gluten-free options, (b) was close, and (c) took a reservation. In short, we had a very good meal. I am a snob when it comes to bacon and potato salad, and both of those were outstanding! The wine menu was limited but good, and the service was wonderful. If they had been open for breakfast the next morning, we would have gone right back! Now we're looking forward to returning to town to see my daughter and have a great meal.
We frequent this establishment 3-4 per month. The food is always good and sometimes exceptional. Their menu has not been updated in some time and we were told it will be in the next month. Both the chicken and pork dishes are very good. Their house dressing could do with a change and the beer list could be a little wider in it's selection. We always enjoy sitting by the window and watching the foot traffic. When in doubt order a pizza, always fresh with a good chewy crust.
In the past, the food and service has been excellent. This visit, two pork dishes were poorly prepared, cold, and probably left over. Only one of my guests enjoyed her meal. The wedge salad was served with very little lettuce which I found strange. It will be some time, if at all, for me to return to Cellar Bistro.
I have eaten here many times, although this last time the service was as if we were at a classless diner . Don't get me wrong, I love diners, but for the price you are paying for your meal, I expect a little service, respect, not to have to ask what the soup du jour and specials are, and for the minimum price of 11 for a glass of Griogio. Just some common courtesy. When I walked in, the server said ur table is ready over there in the corner. Lol! I do love the food. Sometimes they don't always think the female is picking up the tab, and seem to address the male. I always leave at least 20% as I have been a server and bartender. This lunch time, I was a little disappointed.
Staff was attentive without hovering. Unfortunately, the food was not as good as in the past. The salmon dish was ordered and it's served with asparagus. Salmon was delicious but the asparagus was over cooked and the ends were not trimmed. Very disappointing.
We had two house salads. The croutons were overwhelming. The lemon vinaigrette dressing on the salads was not as good as usual. The pizza was good but the center was very doughy for the first time. It was taste of Wheaton weekend and maybe they were just to busy. This is one of our favorite local places to eat. They make great cappuccinos and coffees also.
We were celebrating a few milestones in the family. Cellar Bistro is our favorite spot to eat--the food has always been great, the atmosphere is nice (usually quiet, except Saturday night a group of young ladies were celebrating a birthday), and the service is good. Wait staff was very busy - we only saw 2 of them and they were also tending bar and taking care of tables inside and outside, but our meals were served in a timely manner, neither rushed after appetizers or a big wait for the food. We would definitely recommend Cellar Bistro and we will return.
