The Cellar at Duckworth's
Waitress (Nikki) and service was great. Noise level was much louder than I expected it to be, especially given the speak easy vibe. Small plates were all good- table shared the Brussels, bacon, and dumplings. I’ll go back but maybe on a weekday instead of a Saturday night- just not any buffer between you and the tables surrounding you.
Best meal I have had in a while and the best service in years
The place is absolutely beautiful. A true speak easy atmosphere. The smell of orange and wood used in the crafted drinks permiates de place making it that much more inviting. East Village is my favorite drink. Best macaroni and cheese in town. Brussels sprouts are delicious. The place is swanky and rich. The beer cellar is a super special place. I have been to this establishment many, many times and have never been disappointed.
Great spot for first date/meetup.
Amazing food and drinks! We loved this place. Was great for a group/team dinner. Not a lot of vegetarian options.
First time dining. The food was exceptional! Atmosphere too! Love the speak easy vibe.
Great food and service. Served as ready, steak cooked at 1800 degrees and delicious
We went to celebrate my son's birthday. They have very limited seating. Most tables are bar height and the stools are uncomfortable. The service was good as well as the food. They only have a beet salad that can be ordered a la cart. They also serve an arugula salad but when we ask were told that you can only order the arugula salad as part of an entree. They won't serve it separately which I find strange and unaccomodating. Scallops delicious, truffle fries incredible, filet delicious, shrimp and grits just so so. My son ordered the tomahawk steak. IMO not worth $72. The filet had a much better flavor. Overall a good experience but when we pay $72 for a steak, we want a little more luxury to come with that price.
Food and ambience was excellent as well as service. The only negative is the noise level can become too much.
Incredible, as always. Chargrilled oysters were AMAZING!
Had read previous reviews and made a reservation, primarily based upon the menu range and steaks.
Overall, it just fails to meet the expectations set both in terms of overall quality and value. We ordered rib eye steaks, with shrimp and scallops as extra and a portion of fries to share on the side. We were advised that the fries may come before the entrees (slightly strange situation) and as advertised they did! No idea why you would wait 5 minutes and bring with the entrees, but there you have it.
The steaks were really decent pieces of meat that could have been rested longer before plating up I think and my steak was half eaten and sent back for being seriously over- seasoned. I normally don't mind salt but his was terrible and truly spoilt the meat. I don't take up the offer of a replacement as I'd eaten the scallops and accompanying salad. We were offered a free dessert instead.
Cheeses and dessert were good, loved the honeycomb with the cheese. Good wine selection too.
Service was just a bit bizarre- the waiter obviously does his thing however overbearing and not really very sincere. I was a little surprised to get the final bill and see no other deduction for the salty steak which kind off summed up the place- nearly yet not quite good enough. We heard other tables complaining about things so perhaps just a bad night. Wouldn't go back- plenty of other options in town.
Loved our server and the experience. We will always make this a Charlotte staple. The food this time was underwhelming, but I do think it might have been what we chose. The duck flatbread and some of our cocktails was not what was described to us but still a note worthy experience and a must visit place for everyone in Charlotte!
Made reservations on Open Table. Seated immediately. Server was very knowledgeable about both cocktails and beers. Food was excellent. Both appetizers and mains. Didn’t have dessert. It was loud, but the place was designed to keep noise in. It was what we expected and more. Would definitely come back.
food was great the only bad thing was getting the drinks was very slow
Atmosphere, food, and service are amazing! First place we eat when we come to town every time!
Expected more - got less. Weird timing on food delivery. Not worth the price.
Loved the ambience and the food was great.
This restaurant surprised us. We really were not expecting the level of service or the originality and quality of the food. The menu online does not do justice to the tastes presented. It was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in Charlotte. It was loud but we had a very attentive server who made sure we could hear everything he was describing. He really knew his stuff and we tipped him very well for his service. I could not have made one suggestion to change anything. Five stars *
Great atmosphere and outstanding food. Great for a “non-traditional” business meal, or fun/relaxed date night
Delicious! The Mac and cheese is AMAZING.
Great time with friends for a birthday! I would recommend for a fun evening
Food was excellent and service was wonderful....my only issue is it’s way loud!
Noisy but nice.
Love everything about the Cellar... ambience, food and especially the service Darren provided us. Darren is always great with his commentary history of Cellar and recommendations for food/wine. I'm giving 4 stars due to the hostess being a little rude with her response upon arrival. I apologized for running late I had a meeting run longer than anticipated and she stated we give you 15 minutes but your 20 minutes. I apologized again, she never acknowledged the apology just gave the menus to another woman and told her where to sit us. I found her response little abrupt and not acknowledging my apology childish. Since I eat here often hopefully it was just a miscommunication between us and moving forward I will make later reservations to prevent any future issue.
This was a really nice experience. I brought a client here who hadn't dined at The Cellar before, and they loved it. Great food, amazing crafted cocktails, and a really cool atmosphere. Our server, Bobby Sunshine, was the epitome of a server who genuinely enjoys what they do and who they work with. Definitely will be back!
Birthday celebration was outstanding
Unbelievable start to finish!!! The waitstaff was incredibly knowledgeable and genuine. The red wine was delicious and recommended by our waiter when explained what we typically enjoy. The food was prepared to perfection. Can not wait to go again.
We got a great table for our anniversary. Staff was attentive bit not overbearing. If you haven't been to the Cellar it's time to go. The bacon and oyster appetizers and amazing. The ribeye is my favorite. My honey loves the scallops with chorizo.
We were one of this first tables seated for the night and it was very quiet initially. By the time we left, I could not hear the person beside me speaking. The small restaurant, number of tables squeezed in and lack of acoustics made it very loud once the restaurant was full. The service was outstanding; our waiter was clearly very knowledgeable about the food and drink options. I had the cellar mai tai and it was delicious. We also had the brussel sprouts, risotto, ribeye, and pork steam buns that were excellent. The duck flatbread and beet salad were not as great, but also may be a matter of personal taste. We had the nutella cheesecake and tres leches cake for dessert which were also delicious. The prices of the small plates were reasonable ($10-15 generally) and easily shared. The ribeye was on the pricier end, more along the lines of a fine steakhouse. It was well seasoned and to temperature so overall I was satisfied even at the higher price point. It is dark, but it's a speakeasy cellar after all so to be expected. I wouldn't suggest this place for a quiet romantic dinner due to the noise level but great for a night out with friends.
This place is great. I've been here a few times with clients. They love it too. Hidden gem in Uptown. Service is always outstanding. Specialty drinks and beer cellar selections are fun. If you get a chance, do a tour of the beer cellar. Cannot go wrong with the Mole Old Fashioned either (with smoke). Chargrilled oysters and steaks were done perfectly.
Bobby Sunshine took great care of us and the food was fantastic
This is hands down the best restaurant in Charlotte. The main draw is the dozens of hand-crafted cocktails you cannot get anywhere else in North Carolina, maybe not even anywhere in the entire South, outside of maybe NO or ATL. The whiskey sour with whipped egg white is among the best concoctions I have ever had, and this coming from an avid single-malt scotch aficionado. Every thing on the menu is amazing, from the duck flatbread, to the truffle fries. The single greatest food item, is by far the scallops. I, no joke, felt as though time slowed down while savoring every bite, As if by instinct I closed my eyes as so my I could devote more of my brains sensory perception to taste. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, paired with exactly the right sauce. The only complaint, if you could call it a complaint, would be the menu has not changed in over two years, I would love to see what else they can make a transcendent food experience.
The food was some of the best I’ve had in uptown Charlotte. The service is great! We loved the look and feel of the restaurant!
Great smaller place, food and drinks were delish and service was great above all. A little pricey but great for a special night out!
Food and drinks were amazing. The tuna tartare was to die for. Darren took really good care of us. He made it a special night for my girlfriends birthday! Can’t wait to come back
Very cool vibe. Food was awesome. Got the beer cellar tour. Will definitely go again when we are in the area.
Had an unfortunate experience where there was a power outage. Only could get served drinks. Had our meals ordered, but then were ushered out. Sad experience!
We ordered a drink and an appetizer and then as soon as we ordered our entree’s The power went out and we had to leave no fault to the restaurant but our car was also stuck due to the power being out. We walked a few blocks in the cold to finally reach the epicenter where we were forced to eat :(
EVERYTHING was excellent!! Our table of 5 shared several small plates (tuna tartare, beets, candied bacon) and then each ordered “large plates”. Steaks were perfectly cooked. Cocktails were amazing. Our server (wish I could remember her name!) did an outstanding job figuring out each one of our tastes for cocktails. We went with her recommendations; she hit the nail in the head for each of us! Great atmosphere and excellent food, drink, and service! :)
Thank you so much for dining with us! We hope to see you again soon!
