The Catch Ratings and Reviews
While the Catch is very large (it can seat over 500 people, although you'll almost never see that many people there), service is professional, personal and attentive. They have put a lot of thought into both the bar and food menus, resulting in creative beer and wine selections, and even more creative food choices. We were thrilled with the attention to detail in the preparation and presentation of all the dishes we ordered. This is an underrated gem in Orange County. Go there and be as surprised and pleased as we were.
Came here for Orange County Restaurant Week, and was NOT disappointed.
- Crème of asparagus soup
Great appetizer. Wonderful, almost roasted, taste (at least to me), and the heads of asparagus and the mexican shrimp included were great as well.
- Duo of Filet Medallions
Amazingly good. Medium was actually medium, and the Shrimp and Lobster Diabo topping on one medallion and blue cheese crumbles on the other were outstanding. The Lyonnaise potatoes were okay. It wasn't the best part, but maybe I'm just used to not having too many carbs now (Ketogenic Diet). Accompanied with asparagus, which was, again, delicious.
- Chocolate Soufflé
Extremely decadent. Rich to the umpteeth power.
Good food but a little on the pricey side. I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions, like birthdays. Also seems like a good place to go after work if you work in the area. It is a more mature restaurant, so if you want a place where you can relax and have a quiet conversation, this would be a good place to go
We took a group of business associates to dinner during the AFFI convention. The service was excellent once we had a waiter assigned to our table. Falcon did an awesome job and the group had a great time.
The food was excellent.

We went during OC restaurant week, and I thought the food was just ok (actually on salty side) and items on the menu were pricey. However, service was superb. Our waiter was extremely attentive - constantly refilled water & asked if we needed anything. He knew my friend and I were going to share food (so we may try as many dishes as possible), he not only brought out extra utensils and plates for us but also carefully laid out and divided the plates/utensils so it would be easy for us to split our food.
My wife and I celebrated our February birthdays at the Catch this year and we've never combined our birthday dinners, so I sent the staff a message ahead of time asking that they would just make our evening memorable for my wife as much as possible. And the results were that we had an awesome waiter, we were met with happy birthday signage and we both had a great birthday dinner!
Aside from my ordering the Shrimp Christopher(I must be honest)
However, shrimp, ravioli, and sauce that accompanied the actual Christopher stuffing...excellent. Sirloin steak, red velvet cake, mixed veggies, and creme brulee impeccable.
We had an overall good meal. When we sat down, however, we were seated next to a very noisy table. We asked to be moved and were accommodated. Our second server was wonderful, but but it took a while to get our food. Without us asking, the manager took our alcoholic drinks off of our bill as he thought the service was too slow. This restaurant is noisy and it's hard to have a conversation, but in general, it was good.
Had a wonderful Valentine's Dinner. Started with a great drink in the bar. Good beer selections and loved my Bluepomtini. Dinner continued the great experience. We were a little concerned about the set menu for V-day but it was a very generous selection and had exactly what we wanted. My steak was perfectly cooked and the lobster was very well prepared. The souffle was a perfect ending. We were not rushed and as out of town visitors I am only sorry that we can't come back on a regular basis. This would be a great place to start a day at the ballgame. Thanks.
We made a reservation for Valentines day about a week before and got a good time 5:45. I had the surf and turf 8oz filet and 22oz lobster tail. It was the best Lobster tail I have ever had and I have had plent of them in my life especially living in Boston for 7 years. The whole experience was awesome! Thanks!
After reading mixed reviews, I went there with no expectations. I could not have left thinking higher of The Catch. The food was excellent! Everything was hot, cooked just right, generous portions and delicious. The dining room was comfortable -- the tables were not too close together and the acoustics were wonderful in that it was not loud, and I could hear friends across the table without a problem. The service was fabulous (I was even offered a blanket and pillow for my four-year-old who had fallen asleep). The valet was wonderful. We ate before a crowded event at the stadium, and I almost hate to share it, but this is the most convenient and smartest pre-event place to eat. I will be back and look forward to it.
The Catch is an excellent restaurant serving delicious food and fine presentation. The only nit that prevented 5 stars was the noise from the bar and all the TV's. It detracted somewhat from the overall ambience of the restaurant itself. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a high-end dining experience.
Everything was great except the bill. I tried to describe a large flat steak I saw coming out of the kitchen to our waitress. See assumed it was a New York which I kinda doubted but went for any way. I didn't realize until the bill came that I had been talked into a $60 kobe ny strip. it was not worth $60 believe me.
Nice venue, good atmosphere and food was well cooked and presented, however service for drinks was a little slow, especially in the early stages of dinner.....took a while to order and get out first drink.....red wine arrived before the beer etc even though all but 1 was drinking beers first etc......Apart from that a pleasant evening
The service was excellent and the food was even better. It was packed the night we were there so get a reservation if you want to be sure to be seated right away. It's a vibrant place so if you want quiet this one is not for you. However, if you are looking for the combination of excellent food and service for a dinner with friends the Catch fits he bill.
There is a large staff circulating through the restuarant to bring your meal, fill your water glass, remove used plates, answer questions. Our server was able to explain the menu items, offer recommendations, and suggest pairings. Our food was excellent. We ordered from the special menu that included three courses for $35, and found it to be an excellent value.
Everyone was very considerate - as it was a little cold in our area so they were very happy to reset us in an area that was not so cold.
It is quite a busy restaurant so you can't expect it to be quiet.
The food was great (a little pricey) but very good. We celebrated a birthday and that
was done very nicely and we all appreciated the effort put forth to help us celebrate.
I would recommend......also the staff was excellent!!!
Went to The Catch on New Years Eve for dinner. We opted for the three course New Years Eve special rather than the full menu (which I thought was cool to offer both). I loved the quiet, dark environment. The food was very good but I regret not ordering the Chillian sea bass. We didn't "love" the dessert - we were kind of stuffed at that point so maybe that had something to do with it. I had the trio of sashimi, New Zealand sea bass, and the fondue. The wife had the butternut squash soup - she thought it was too sweet but I loved it and finished it, the stuffed crab, and the profiteroles. We had a great booth and a wonderful server - I think her name was Candice. Overall, a great dinner and I look forward to going back.
This was our first time here. The restaurant has a metropolitan feeling, which I love. I had their Chilean Sea Bass. It was the best I've EVER tasted--flaky and buttery! My husband had the Ribeye steak. He said it was very moist and flavorful. What I most liked about The Catch is that they included side dishes with the entree. The portions were not skimpy either. We will definitely be back!!
