The Castle at Dunleith Ratings and Reviews
Buddy of mine and I brought our wives to this venue for Valentine's day. There was ample parking outside. We were met at the door, inquiring about our reservation. She reviewed and quickly escorted our party of 4 to our table and handed us menus to review. Our server came shortly to obtain our drink order. The restaurant was full at noon and our server was handling a number of tables. We were not in a hurry, and our drinks did take a while to be served. The server did come back to take our order. We all ordered a salad, but when served, only 3 were delivered and server asked what I ordered? The others in our party waited till my salad was delivered which took a few minutes? The house chopped salads and caesar salads were good. They also served delicious hot rolls. When I main entrees were served, 3 of the 4 were correct and mine was incorrect?? Server retreived the incorrect order and went back to the kitchen. My correct order was delayed, I had the others start eating. When my Salmon was delivered, it was hot and good. The strawberry shortcake and cheese cake desserts were also good. I did have to flag down another server to obtain refills on our drinks. I would go back, because of the food and ambiance.
Great experience at The Castle! Our server Emmie was very attentive as well as the host/hostess station when we arrived. Our outstanding dining experience included fried green tomatoes, Caesar salad, steaks (filet & ribeye cooked perfectly) crusted with bleu cheese and dessert to go. Emmie even wrote happy birthday to my wife on our to-go box :) When you go, ask for Emmie!
The service was excellent! Unfortunately despite a fairly empty restaurant and reservations we were seated in a drafty area. The dinner menu is limited to 8 entrees. Upon arrival we were told that the restaurant did not have beef that day which eliminated 3 of the 8 entrees. The bread and whipped butter was excellent as was the tomato soup. The shrimp fettuccine seemed over cooked and my dinner companion felt that the macaroni and cheese was undercooked and the collard greens tasted odd. We were dissapointed in the food.
There are very few restaurants in Natchez with a good wine list. This is probably the best in that department. Superb steaks and cajun food, too. Downstairs bar scene was crowded (game night), but upstairs formal dining was quiet. Something good for everyone. Highly recommended.
Our meal on Thanksgiving Day at The Castle Restaurant was one of the top dining experiences of our lives, and we've traveled and eaten at hundreds of places. Every single dish was perfection, from the turkey and dressing, to the green bean casserole and sweet potato dish that was to die for!!! Our server was friendly and efficient and waited on us with a lovely smile throughout our long lunch. (It takes time to eat that much good food!) The cooks really knew how to fix a good old -fashioned homemade traditional southern Thanksgiving meal. They outdid themselves! And our table was beside a window overlooking the lovely grounds of Dunleith. The view, the food, the service--all was top notch. Thank you, Castle, for making our Thanksgiving a day to remember and cherish!
My husband and I had a 6:30 pm dinner reservation on Saturday evening. When we arrived the restaurant was empty....not one other customer was there. It’s a lovely place and our server William was very nice. Fried Green tomatoes were fine and my husband liked the Red fish entree okay. My ribeye was a bit over cooked but tasty. The Yukon mashed potatoes were so salty I couldn’t eat them. Overall this was a mediocre experience and we were traveling so hoping for a much better evening out. By the time we left there were 2 other tables (total of 6 people) having dinner ..... really? on a Saturday night?..
In the past this food has been excellent but this time temperature was off on each item. There were four of us and we each ordered different items. To start the soup was tasty but barely warm and each course after that was the same. We were disappointed but will give it another try as it has been so good on the past. Every place can have an off night and perhaps this was the problem
The staff is always friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is quant and I love the historical ambiance. The food is by far the best in town. I often visit the Sunday buffet. This is a good way to sample a little bit of everything. From veggies, to pastas, seafood, or a delicious breakfast. I will continue to visit and bring friends with me.
Incredible. The food is simply divine. They have a wide variety of cocktails and beer with many local draft choices too. The service was great and the pub downstairs is perfect for a night cap. On top of all the great, food, drinks, and atmosphere, you get a free tour of the antebellum home Dunleith with your receipt. And it's amazing too. Plus they have a hotel in the house! This place has it all!
This was not our favorite experience. We found the place to be lovely, but not our kind of place. For one thing, the menu guarantees you will spend a lot of money to get a full meal. The salad and side dishes are not a part of the entree, and must be ordered--and paid for--separately. I ordered the crispy quail/waffles, not realizing that "crispy" meant "deep fried." The crust was too heavy and you could hardly taste the quail at all. The waffle was very good, but this was a celebration of my anniversary, so waffles are not my first thought for that.
We were offered a complimentary dessert and chose the creme brulee. Unfortunately, someone was a little to liberal with the blowtorch, and our creme was a little too bruleed.
I'm sorry, but we will not be back: there are too many other lovely restaurants in Natchez.
