The Castle at Dunleith
The Castle closed after I made our reservations and the new owners could not be bothered to notify folks who had made reservations so we could make other plans. Completely ruined a much anticipated birthday celebration. There aren’t marks low enough for that level of lack of consideration of guests.
This restaurant is closed. The owner of Dunleith ran into financial difficulties and the bank foreclosed on the property on February 1, 2019. The Dunleith website indicates that Dunleith is closed. But it is not clear whether that applies to the entire property or only to the main house. The Castle Restaurant is in a separate building. The restaurant menu is still available on the Dunleith website. It is still possible to make reservations for the restaurant through Open Table. And the day before our March 11 reservation, I received an email from Open Table requesting that I confirm our reservation. We didn't find out that the restaurant is closed until we arrived for dinner and found the entrance drive blocked.
Are you kidding me? They were bankrupt and closed!! What a surprise to us. It looks like you would have known that information
Made reservation through open table, they only had a few reservations available so were glad to get 7:30 reservations. Confirmed with open table the day before through there email prompt that we were still going . Arrived on time the property had construction cones at the gate entrance that it was temporarily closed due to ownership change. Its was too late to get reservations anywhere else. No notice or anything totally unprofessional.
Every time we have visited The Castle we had a warm greeting and our table was ready at the exact time of our reservation. Our service is always wonderful and our food is to perfection. This was our first time to go to the downstairs pub. It was a happening place. Our only suggestion would be to have a little better singer/entertainment than what they had that night. The poor guy couldn't carry a tune and impossible to dance to anything although we tried. Overall I still give it a 5.
Very good meal.
The Ribeye was great...and the Cajun shrimp salad(Gocheaux) was unbelievable. Shrimp from a true cajun boil...very flavorful.
New Year’s Eve dinner on vacation. We could only get a reservation in the bar area, but luckily one of the Southern gentlemen who worked there let us dine at a table reserved for himself for later. The ambiance is much better in the main dining room than the basement bar tables. Appetizers are plentiful as are the entrees.
Great food. When my wine showed up, it was clear that it was opened a long time beforehand so it had taken on a sherry taste. Not good. Waiter brought a new glass from a newly opened bottle, no questions asked. Our waiter, Gabriel, was the ONLY waiter working the whole two rooms. Awful that he had to do that alone. Other server called in sick, so nobody to replace her, which is just plain crazy. I'd heard that the place was packed earlier last night, so that must have been very difficult for him. He carried it off with grace and apologies for having to wait. Really nice guy, very efficient, given the circumstances. He gets an A+++!
This was a return visit for us. We love it. Awesome food and incredible and friendly service. We hope to be back New Years weekend for the Sunday brunch!!
Enjoyed our meal. Service was outstanding.
Went here for 30th Anniversary celebration. The breakfast buffet was not stocked well and cold. Service was sub-par. My overall experience was disappointing given the price paid and expectations.
Ausserwöhnliches Restaurant mit ausgezeichnetem Essen, sehr gute Weine.
Muss man unbedingt machen wenn man in Natchez ist.
We loved everything! It’s one of our favorites.
Pleasantly surprised by food, service and ambiance. Great find in the "middle of the woods"
Really enjoyed our time here at the castle restaurant. Began with the pub and the special on the 1998 silver oak Cabernet. The meal was wonderful. Our only complaint was sitting in the far corner when no one was at the restaurant. We asked to be moved but were told it was fullly booked however by the time we left only 5 tables were occupied. Beautiful setting!
Good food, business casual dress code not enforced at all, many people in jeans. Nice place, plus your receipt gets you a free tour the next day.
I’ve never been to the Castle and left disappointed. The ambience is relaxing, elegant and pleasant. Our waiter was superb! The meal was wonderful.
Wonderful atmosphere. Very Relaxing and the food was outstanding.
Very nice and wonderful service. Great food and it made our evening with family and friends just perfect..
Lovely restaurant in the old carriage house of a beautiful southern mansion. Buffet was nice and truly southern food.
Lovely birthday lunch with friends! I can’t wait to go back!
We had a delicious lunch at The Castle. Cloth table clothes and napkins always help make a meal special. We had a very attentive waiter. The restaurant had daily lunch specials. Your lunch included a tour of the plantation home but they were not doing tours that afternoon..we were disappointed.
We ate at The Castle Restaurant when we stayed at Dunleith Plantation. We started and finished at the Pub, which we really enjoyed. The Castle Restaurant itself is a quaint place: rustic but elegant. The ambiance would have improved with softer lighting. The staff was attentive and professional. The wine list was better than expected. The only weak point was the food. Admittedly, we are spoiled from New Orleans restaurants, but the fried green tomatoes and crab cake appetizers were passable, but lacked any spark. We each had seafood entrees which were OK, without as much flavor as we are accustomed. Fortunately, the Pub is right downstairs. All in all, we had a wonderful evening, especially the stay in "The Big House". We will definitely return.
Excellent food in an attractive and unusual venue. Only problem--my wife's steak, requested to be medium to medium-well, was medium rare. Once we re-acquired our waitress' attention and requested that it be cooked a bit more, the problem got solved. The rest of the meal was excellent!
Not quite up to expectations. Food was tasty but not fine dining as we have experienced elsewhere.
Steak was overdone. Wasn’t asked how I wanted the salmon so it was overdone. Fried green tomatoes too rich and seemed oily. Service was excellent tho. House chardoney was also excellent. Sorry but 1818 got 5 stars from us.
Really enjoyed dinner. Ended up over eating just so I could try a couple of different appetizers!!!
We had a wonderful experience here. Great food-redfish with shrimp with crawfish and mushroom rice sauce. Our waitress Jordan was outstanding and extremely kind, efficient ,courteous and helpful. Beautiful location also. Highly recommend!
It took 20 minutes for a waiter to take our drink order and that was only because I finally flagged someone down. It wasn't that busy and our food took forever... waiter said kitchen backed up, but everyone else had food. The waiter was very nice but I don't think waiting tables is his everyday job. Food was either really good or we were just so happy to finally get it, I'm not sure. I will say they did pour a proper glass of wine, it wasn't a sip.
Enjoyed the buffet on Sunday especially the fried chicken. The ambience was quiet an relaxing. We were seated at the window overlooking the pool. Very good service.
Enjoyed! Everything was great. Nice pub and very friendly staff!
We met our best friends in Natchez for the weekend and dined at The Castle restaurant at Dunleith. My husband and I had been there several years ago and loved it! We still do. We all enjoyed our meals, the service was phenomenal and I got many thanks for the recommendation. We’ll be back. I particularly enjoyed the duck with a blackberry reduction.
Very nice... a lovely Sunday brunch. Great staff. Beautiful setting.
My husband and I enjoyed a meal with two of our children. The atmosphere was upscale in that there were a plenitude of servers, tablecloths and cloth napkins, water goblets, and a hushed level of conversation. Our crabcake was slightly above average, but I'm from Louisiana and have high expectations when it comes to food. Diners from other states might rate the crabcake a 5 out of 5. I give it a 4 because it had plenty of lump crab, but wasn't as spicy/seasoned as it could have been. A spicy dipping sauce would have boosted the flavor. My shrimp and crab caesar salad was excellent. The dressing was top notch, and the shrimp were cooked to perfection. My husband's catfish poboy was also only a 4 out of 5, but once again, we have very high expectations. The shrimp child's plate was perfect for my 8 year old. She gives it a 5. The shrimp were fried well and they provided a generous serving. My teen ordered a chicken sandwich that she rates as average. Our servers were very friendly, and we joked with them a bit. They took care of our every need. I enjoyed the experience, and I'd eat there again...particularly since you do get a free tour of the house's first floor with your meal.
Wonderful - best of Natchez!
Great food and service, nice ambience, and beautiful building and grounds
The service was prompt, and the food was DELICIOUS! Great anniversary date night.
reservation was placed well in advance (more than 1 month) – and we got a a hidden table. They forgot us to serve, the whole evening I had to stand up to make us visible.
Service was bad and unattentive and absolutely no knowledge about the wine they serve.
Tomato soup was like a “strong tomato concentrate”, the main dish ok. Well, absolutely overpriced.
My impression: they think that tourists from Switzerland only come once to Natchez (it was our 5th visit to Natchez!). So, if you are not a local …
Wonderful location and fabulous food. I would highly recommend!
