The Captain's Table Ratings and Reviews
We have eaten here multiple times over the past 7 years. Tonite was not the usual night. They were out of certain common wines, the food came out warm and the coffee was tepid at best. We arrived early, were seated and it took 15 minutes to get water. This place is such a good venue. With better management they could really grow their business. We felt sorry for the wait staff.
We had never been here before and had a delicious lunch. The view of the water and sailboats was beautiful. We could have sat outside if it was a little but warmer which would have been nice if it was warmer but we had a window seat which was perfect.
We both had the salad of the day which had shrimp, scallops, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, feta cheese and a blackberry dressing. It was delicious.
We can't wait to go back,
nice place. good food
There were 6 of us for my birthday. Two were children. All meals were excellent except mine :( I ordered the Ribeye steak for $28,88. The first one was almost inedible, too much fat & grizzle. Server was fantastic, ordered me another one without me having to ask. The second steak was just as bad, more than half of both had way too much fat . The server then offered me something else like a filet, but by that time our family was done eating. He did bring me 2 lava cakes to celebrate that the whole family enjoyed. Would never order a Ribeye there again. It wasn't the servers fault, he did everything right. and service was excellent.
We had a group of 10 for New Year's Eve. I had requested a table by the window and the hostess staff tried to accommodate us but the table was a high top and we had elderly folks who aren't able to sit on the higher chairs so we were moved to another table, which was still a nice location and we very much appreciated.
Our server Bobby was very nice and accommodating, but I wonder if by moving us to the other table, he was too busy. Our order and food took quite a bit of time; and we noticed the servers were the only ones taking care of the patrons; there were no bus persons or others helping with filling water glasses, etc. It looked as though all of the the servers had too many tables to efficiently serve any table as well as they could judging by their harried pace. Perhaps shorthanded? For the price of the meal, we didn't feel that the meal/service was as good as we expected that it would be for such a nice waterfront restaurant. Food was good, but again not what we would expect for that venue.
We have been to the restaurant for outside drinks and appetizers before, and it was excellent.
Food was wonderful! It was NYE, so we were prepared to dine leisurely. Additional servers and/or bus staff would have helped moved things along, but the kitchen also was slow to serve. Given the holiday, it was anticipated, and the quality and taste of the food was worth the wait.
The hostess didn’t hear me say we had a reservation and we got seated in the bar area, they seemed short handed at least in that area, took an hour to get our food, although it was very good, we expect better from them, didn’t seem to have bus people as two tables around us went cluttered for the whole time, manager should have done more to help!
Was not told when we made reservations that only a buffet would be available. We made the reservation based on their dinner menu. Unfortunately, the buffet offered vegetables cooked in oil or butter along with items I cannot eat. I was expecting to have a plain salad along with lamb.
Both the plain meats, chicken and beef, were served cool and I had to get the server to heat them to an edible temperature.
Not a Merry Christmas!
Sorry to say, disappointed and waited for service at our table for two (note: restaurant was not crowded), and the wet table and establishment had unpleasant disinfectant odor. We were also sorry to see that you no longer do the abundant buffet and was looking forward to prime rib usually offered on Saturdays.
The hostess said she had to clear a table for our reservation. She then seated 3 other parties and forgot we were there. When we reapproached her she did not recall us then sat us next to the bar. When asked about seating she said there was no guaranteed seating. The waitress worked hard to accommodate our time schedule so we could make our next reservation. My fish was overcooked but the others were fine.
The service was very bad, she never came around, I had to get up and find someone to get our server, so I could order another drink. My steak was good, but it had a lot of fat. The ladies had the same fish dish, but one had more stuffing than fish. All this, and a bill over $100 for 3 people, NOT WORTH IT!
Robert aka Bobby was well versed in the menu. He was professional in his service to us, checked our progress through dinner, usually from afar, was pleasant but never intrusive. Our dinner was served on very warm plates as should be, fish cools rapidly on cold china. Overall a pleasant meal. Herman.
We found the menu limited on choices and the prices were high for what you received. We loved coming there when they had their salad bar and the hand made Caesar salad was excellent. Our Caesar salad was shredded lettuce which was soggy and their was no favor to the dressing. The coconut shrimp was good and the bread. The view of course was excellent. That would be the only reason to return. We hope they improve on their entrees.
Made reservations almost a week in advance, called to verify party of 6 same day as reservation, upon arrival they didn't know who we were.
Requested window table ... not available.
Sat there for 45 minutes when the hostess came over and asked what party we were with???
No waiter, no water, nothing but totally ignored.
Met with friends for a Christmas get-together and since I was the one who picked the place, I was overjoyed when everyone fell in love with the Captains Table. Everyone's food was perfect. One of the ladies who rarely eats much ate everything on her plate because it was so delicious. The service was friendly and we didn't feel rushed. The view is wonderful, as well as the atmosphere. Everyone wants to make this restaurant our go-to place. As a side note, my husband and I just returned from a transatlantic cruise and I would say the food, atmosphere, and service matched what we experienced on our wonderful cruise. Don't miss The Captains Table.
We were there for Mother’s Day and had an excellent meal & Service. Yesterday, the service left a lot to be desired (apologies from the waitress don’t cut it). We were celebrating a birthday last night, so was hoping it would be a special experience. The food was good, but not excellent. We were planning to bring my mother here for her birthday on December 20, but we will find somewhere else to take her after last nights experience.
We had a late 6:45 reservation because of last minute plan change. We were asked if we had a reservation. We did. At the same time an employee said Do not take their table, no more people to be seated. The hostess said they have a reservation. This was offsetting as we could see a number of vacant tables.
There was no soup or salad on the buffet.
The meats were good, moist and well seasoned but the desserts were grocery store type and there was no fruit. The buffet was mostly carbs.
Our waitress was very excellent and attentive.
We felt the meal was overpriced for the menu. Golden Coral serves the same type of buffet for 1/3 the price.
First time in years that we went out for Thanksgiving. We were seated immediately and had our drink order taken and served within minutes. Great selection on the buffet and almost everything we tried was very good. The ham was a bit dry. Had a great water view. Price was good for the variety that was offered Would not hesitate having another Thanksgiving meal here.
The Captain’s Table is located at the Fisherman’s Wharf in Punta Gorda. The only negative thing I can say is that there was difficulty in finding parking. On the evening that we were there, there was the first night of the mall’s Holiday Lights Festival. We had to fight the crowds to get to the Captains Table. What we hoped would be a relaxing evening was quite stressful.
Three out of the four dinners were excellent. The Fruta Di Mare was not what was expected. On the disappointing side.
We enjoyed our dinner outside on the deck where we could watch the sunset and boats coming and going into the harbor. It was a warm, beautiful evening, with excellent service, food, and drinks. The Escargot was outstanding! It was quite filling so I had the Coconut Shrimp for my main course and it too, was delicious. My husband had the swordfish topped with Mango salsa and he didn't leave a single bite! We look forward to returning again soon!
