The Captain's Table Ratings and Reviews
We found the menu limited on choices and the prices were high for what you received. We loved coming there when they had their salad bar and the hand made Caesar salad was excellent. Our Caesar salad was shredded lettuce which was soggy and their was no favor to the dressing. The coconut shrimp was good and the bread. The view of course was excellent. That would be the only reason to return. We hope they improve on their entrees.
Made reservations almost a week in advance, called to verify party of 6 same day as reservation, upon arrival they didn't know who we were.
Requested window table ... not available.
Sat there for 45 minutes when the hostess came over and asked what party we were with???
No waiter, no water, nothing but totally ignored.
Met with friends for a Christmas get-together and since I was the one who picked the place, I was overjoyed when everyone fell in love with the Captains Table. Everyone's food was perfect. One of the ladies who rarely eats much ate everything on her plate because it was so delicious. The service was friendly and we didn't feel rushed. The view is wonderful, as well as the atmosphere. Everyone wants to make this restaurant our go-to place. As a side note, my husband and I just returned from a transatlantic cruise and I would say the food, atmosphere, and service matched what we experienced on our wonderful cruise. Don't miss The Captains Table.
We were there for Mother’s Day and had an excellent meal & Service. Yesterday, the service left a lot to be desired (apologies from the waitress don’t cut it). We were celebrating a birthday last night, so was hoping it would be a special experience. The food was good, but not excellent. We were planning to bring my mother here for her birthday on December 20, but we will find somewhere else to take her after last nights experience.
We had a late 6:45 reservation because of last minute plan change. We were asked if we had a reservation. We did. At the same time an employee said Do not take their table, no more people to be seated. The hostess said they have a reservation. This was offsetting as we could see a number of vacant tables.
There was no soup or salad on the buffet.
The meats were good, moist and well seasoned but the desserts were grocery store type and there was no fruit. The buffet was mostly carbs.
Our waitress was very excellent and attentive.
We felt the meal was overpriced for the menu. Golden Coral serves the same type of buffet for 1/3 the price.
First time in years that we went out for Thanksgiving. We were seated immediately and had our drink order taken and served within minutes. Great selection on the buffet and almost everything we tried was very good. The ham was a bit dry. Had a great water view. Price was good for the variety that was offered Would not hesitate having another Thanksgiving meal here.
The Captain’s Table is located at the Fisherman’s Wharf in Punta Gorda. The only negative thing I can say is that there was difficulty in finding parking. On the evening that we were there, there was the first night of the mall’s Holiday Lights Festival. We had to fight the crowds to get to the Captains Table. What we hoped would be a relaxing evening was quite stressful.
Three out of the four dinners were excellent. The Fruta Di Mare was not what was expected. On the disappointing side.
We enjoyed our dinner outside on the deck where we could watch the sunset and boats coming and going into the harbor. It was a warm, beautiful evening, with excellent service, food, and drinks. The Escargot was outstanding! It was quite filling so I had the Coconut Shrimp for my main course and it too, was delicious. My husband had the swordfish topped with Mango salsa and he didn't leave a single bite! We look forward to returning again soon!
Myself and eight other friends went to the Captains Table after we heard of the big change to the overall ambiance of the bar and dining area. That was certainly the case! Everything is cleaner and more convenient to diners and barflys. The construction removed all the odd steps and different levels in the place and it is indeed a nice place to look at with great views of the water. Sadly, that was the best part of the visit. We should have been tipped off by the half empty restaurant on a Friday night. We've been there many times and it was always packed, especially on Fridays when the offered the seafood buffet.
Sad point # 1. The seafood buffet has been discontinued. It was great but the menu changed and out goes the seafood buffet.
Sad point # 2. It took over an hour after we were seated to get our food. There's no way it should have taken that long with the number of actual customers that had in the place. They're going to be in big trouble when (and if) the place is full when the snow birds come back.
Sad point # 3. It appeared there were only 2 or maybe three waiters for all the tables. Granted, half the tables were empty but there's a lot of space to cover. There should have been more wait staff. Again, watch out for the disaster in the making come January and the season.
Sad point # 4. I ordered a New York strip and it was so tough I could barely cut it. It had so much gristle in it it was barely chewable. Others complained of cold mashed potatoes which I can never understand. The plates must have been sitting out in the kitchen for pickup way too long. When the manager was told, he said he would bring more over to the table. Why would we want more cold potatoes?
Sad point # 5. It took almost a half an hour to get our checks. We couldn't wait to get out of there.
Be forewarned, this is not you parents Captain's Table. You will be disappointed.
I have been going there for 17 years, and it was always one of my favorite places. I will never go back. They partially remodeled it and did nothing but make things worse. From the girls who greeted us with a bad attitude, to lousy service, to kitchen mistakes to a menu which did not include one single entrée or appetizer that I would order - it was a horrible evening. The following evening - Laishley Crab House (the same owners) - everything was great.
I was disturbed by our handling at the front desk. We had a reservation for four at 6:00 PM. We arrived a few minutes early. At first the hostess wanted to seat us in the bar. I said that would not be satisfactory and I would like a regular table close to the window so we could enjoy the view. She then tried to put us in one of your high top tables in the back section of the dining room. I again told her that this was not satisfactory. She then conferred with what looked like a manager and he put us in what was probably the most desirable table in the room. It was a great dinner and a great view. My only contention was that I had made the reservation over 24 hours in advance and that should have seated us with a little priority over walk-ins. I hate to have a good experience tainted with the action of a hostess who was unsure as to what she could do. Thank you for reading this, we have been dining in your restaurant since 1983 when it was Nightingale's and have seldom had a complaint. The new layout and entrance are a great improvement.
We really like the new look over the original one. I always order their outstanding and generous Lobster Grill Cheese sandwich. Cole Slaw dies taste homemade. My husband enjoyed the Grouper sandwich. Although it was too chilly to sit outside in this visit, we had a great view of beautiful Charlotte Harbor. One of our go to spots on our trips down.
Food was good, service not so good. Wine was very slow in coming. Arrived after we had half eaten our appetizers. This seems to be an ongoing problem with this restaurant, they need to review their system. I think the bar tender gets into the act and if he is busy, the servers have to wait for him to finish. Also, our server seemed to have tables all over the place, it was hard to track her down if we needed something.
Revisited Captains Table for our anniversary. Our previous experiences were not at all good. This time we were delighted with our entire experience. The new décor is fresh and modern. The menu was great. It was hard to make a choice. Everything we ordered came cooked just right and just like the description on the menu. This will be one of our new go to places
I got the salmon, which was pretty dry and mediocre. My friend got a seafood platter and her fish was woefully undercooked. The bar was nice - would be okay to meet there for a drink and the view. Later in the evening raucous music from downstairs really ruined the atmosphere of a quiet evening and clashed terribly with the piano music. Gave it 3 stars for the bar and view; 2 stars for the food.
