The Capital Grille - Washington DC Ratings and Reviews
My associate doctor and I had dinner prior to the Redskins-Giants game on Monday night.
The Staff respected our need to finish dinner in time to travel to Fed-Ex for the kickoff time.
Our needs were met and we enjoyed a wonderful meal without stressing over making
the Redskins game in time.
Skins beat the Giants and everyone was happy!
My wife and I enjoy your restaurant as well.
Yours in health,
Dr George Bakalis
Booking a table is a must, a very popular venue, well known for their aged steak. Service was good, attentive without being over bearing and polite. The menu is very limited, basically steak prepared an cooked in various ways, with the odd fish dish offered as an alternative, sadly there was not even one veggie option on the menu. The food was good, well presented and cooked but it wasn't really "WOW" and for those prices I expect "WOW" -- I have eaten in better quality places for less money. It was also VERY noisy in there, holding a conversation was hard...but hearing everyone elses very easy. Would I return ?? Only if the person or people I was going with specifically wanted to go, otherwise it would not be a first choice.
A special location that adds to the Capital Grille legacy. From the time we walked in the door until we left, we were treated like royalty. The food was outstanding, with several specials. The wine list is as good or better than any in the City. The service from the hostess to the busers, the waitstaff to the management all were first class- smiling, knowledgeable, appreciative of our business. It was a wonderful evening and we will be back!
We went to celebrate the birthday of a relative. we were treated like royalty and she was presented with a lovely piece of chocolate cake with raspberries at the end which was complimentary and amazingly delicious. We had salmon, aged sirloin, and filet mignon Proseco for one, coffee and espresso for two. Everything we ate or drank was was outstanding and delicious. Portions adequate and salads good. Pricing is the only drawback - too expensive in all areas but lunch was a bit less - and the three of us ate for about $100.00.
We made the reservation for 9:00pm and we had to wait 30 minutes before being seated. What's the point in making a reservation when you have to wait anyway. The manager was nice about the situation but the hostess was rude, didn't smile once, and could care less about the customers. When we received our jackets at the end of dinner, the hostess basically held them out, pushed them in our direction, and said "here." Not a thank you for dining with us or have a great evening. Not what I would have excepted from a Capitol Grille.
I had a great experience at Capital Grille. I had told them when I made my reservation that my fiance and I were celebrating our anniversary and they went the extra mile. Service was impeccable and the food was great. As soon as we checked in, the hostess congratulated us on our anniversary. When we arrived at our table, there was confetti shaped in a heart. At then end of the meal they brought us dessert and champange to finish off our meal that was amazing. I would defininitely recommend taking someone there for any special occasion.
No more $200 bills at Capital Grille Washington DC. Even though I made it clear we were celebrating our annivsersary, my wife and I were seated next to a loud group. Our waiter didn't introduce himself and didn't acknowledge our reason for coming until dessert. We had to send our steaks back because they were under-cooked. One would think a steakhouse would know how to cook a steak. The couple next to us had a similar experience. Also, the steak lacked any seasoning nor were we offered any options in that department (try watching Restaurant Impossible -- salt & paper go a long way!) I don't mind paying $200 for a special occaision meal but this wasn't worth it. Lots of other places to eat a good meal with better atmosphere.
Capital Hill, Election Night, and Capital Grille. Went with group of seven. Most had steaks and lived them. I has grilled ahi tuna and it was excellent. Wine list is extensive and expensive as everything is at this steakhouse. No more or less than other competing establishments. Waiter was excellent and hostess seemed to care. I lived that they did not wheel out the cart of meat. Very good evening.
Can’t go wrong here. Food always good and service great. Good wine list…but might as well buy a bottle if you are drinking more then 1 glass. Steaks were done as we requested. Porterhouse was less flavorful then my bone in rib eye. Would recommend the latter. Only complaint was lobster mac….lobster was bland and poor quality.
Great food and service! Special kudos to the person responsible for our warm reception at the reservation desk and the extremely caring manager who handled a slight problem beautifully.
Delmonico steak, the sliced filet with mushrooms and onions, and a lobster were all superb. Portion size was commensurate with the price. Although expensive, you definitely do not feel that you are being taken. The side dishes, spinach, mushrooms, and potatoes au gratin were wonderful especially the potatoes. More than enough for 4 hearty eaters.
Wait staff was attentive without being overbearing.
We have dined at 3 Capital Grille Restaurants and have enjoyed them all. This one is our favorite.
We go to the Capital Grille frequently and really enjoy it. I mentioned that it was my husband's birthday, so they had decorated the table for us and took a complimentary photo. The service was great, and the food is terrific. (I gave it only "very good" because my steak wasn't perfect, and I'm not much of a steak person, but the rest was delicious.) Generally, the atmosphere is great as well. There was a pretty loud table nearby this time, so the noise level was a little higher than normal.
Steaks by people that know how.
We expected a formulaic steakhouse experience ala Morton's, Ruth's Chris etc. Capital Grille did not fall into the trap. The menu was what you would expect, but the service and well presented flavors that made this experience rise above. Seating at our table for four was a bit tight, but not objection worthy. Wine list was a bit pricey, but delivered on selection and a sense of purpose.
The bar provided real drinks; the kind you can tell were hand crafted, not portion controlled. May have been the best Manhattan, ever.
I love this place. Every time we visit DC, we make it a must stop & usually book for all our business dinners. Food, service and ambiance are all fantastic and our guests (mostly European) always rave!!. My only complaint is with the seating in the smaller back room. The actual seats of the chairs are very short & not super comfortable. It feels like you are sitting in a child's chair. This would not prevent me from returning however.
Capital Grille is our favorite restaurant in Washington right now. Service is experienced. Atmosphere is hardwood paneling and subdued lighting, like a 1900s private club. The bar is loud and energetic, but plenty of quiet tables are on the other side of the dining room.
Looking forward to a good evening out, so we chose Capital Grill. Busy place, but we were seated promptly upon arrival. Our server made an appearance, but left without taking a drink order, and we didn't see him again for awhile. This was a snapshot of the remainder of the evening. Food was fair, but absolutely nothing special. There were four of us, and none was happy with the food. Not what we had experienced in the past, but this was what we found on this visit. In the end, we left a good tip, but it was more a recognition that people have to work and make a living. Might try the Capital Grill again, but it will be awhile: too many other choices.
Really poor service. Had a reservation, but had to wait 30+ minutes to be seated. Other people came and were seated. The manager came by and offered a 2-second apology and walked away. No one else paid us any attention until we were seated. Ruined the night. Was my favorite restaurant, but now thinking twice.
Over all a nice dinner out. Being NY City steakhouse regulars we set the bar pretty high and here it was just a bare miss. Service was good, Bill was professional and personable. The misses were that we got sat at "that" table that no one wants to sit in, oh well, and though one steak was a perfect rare, as asked for, the other was past mid-rare, though asked for rare. Big "oh well". Everything else was quite good.
This is a restaurant made for sheer indulgence, gastronomically and financially. I certainly would not want to do it too often, as it would destroy the budget as well as the arteries, but the Capital Grille was a grand place to take our college freshman son, who loves his steak, and his girlfriend during GWU's Family Weekend. The portions are outsize, and you may wish to split an appetizer or a dessert. My ribeye was nicely marbled (I could only eat about a third of it), and I enjoyed sampling sides which ranged from lobster mac 'n' cheese to sauteed spinach. I started with lobster and crab cakes which were delicious, and ended with the coconut cream pie, which a sugar addict will want to roll around in his or her mouth like a fine wine.
It was a special occasion dinner and we were very pleased. This restaurant is a little pricer than our regular spots but it was definetly worth it. Our waiter was fabulous. He was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We will dine here again the next time we are in DC.
Like the one in Chevy Chase better. Have been there several times and for birthday celebrations they always bring out champagne and a complimentary dessert. I had to ask for the champagne and the waiter did not bring dessert. He seemed put off when I asked.
That was the reason I chose Captial Grille for my sons birthday, especially in downtown DC when there are so many other fine restaurants to choose from.
Will still patronize the Chevy Chase one however.
Had a wonderful lunch and our server, Kylie, was the best. She was pleasant, informative, and even brought us a dessert because we were taking out someone on their first day of work. The whold experience could not have been better -- and of course the food was terrific.
