The Capital Grille - Tampa Ratings and Reviews
3rd year celebrating birthday at Capital Grille. very special. excellent food. filet and porterhouse cooked to perfection. tried the scallop potato side - really really good. letting them know you have a special occasion makes it even better with champagne, appetizer and dessert - and servers that make it a great evening.
My wife and I had dinner tonight and we were very disappointed in the service. The service was not up to the kind of standard we expect. The food took a long time to come out and the staff was clearly disorganized. We ordered some mayo and ketchup for our truffle fries. The order was served to the table adjacent to us and when we complained that our condiments were not served the waitress simply transferred the condiments from the adjacent table to our table. Unsanitary! Big no-no in the restaurant business. Shocking and disappointing. Will not go back for a while.
Top notch evening for my daughter’s birthday. Staff was prepared to provide a special evening and added table decorations. Our party arrived in two groups. The first was given the choice to be seated or to wait. How gracious. Our server, Cat, was cordial and attentive all evening. There are many fine steak and seafood oriented restaurant. The Capital Grille’s commitment to high end service puts it in league with the best.
We enjoyed oysters and soups, steak, tuna, lobster and veal. Only the veal disappointed. I mention the veal because disappointment is atypical at The Capital Grille and unusual, indeed.
As always, our service team instinctively sensed our pace, appeared when needed, and disappeared when we were well taken care of and lost among ourselves.
The Capital Grille remains my go to restaurant for high end dining in Hillsborough County.
My girlfriend was celebrating her 75th birthday. The dining experience made this the best birthday celebration she ever had. The wait staff and management made her feel really special. I have had numerous celebrations at other Capital Grilles. This event was as good as I have ever attended.
Lauren, our bartender/ server today was professional and attentive- thank you. I love Capital Grille- the consistent, high quality food and stellar service. However, three disappointments: 1) They have never had a happy hour- when virtually every other similar, chain restaurant in the city has one. 2) It would be nice to provide a rewards program for their frequent diners- again, when most, near-by establishments offer one, and 3) although I truly appreciate the country-club feel of the restaurant (i.e. dark atmosphere & wood paneling), this location just seems to need a bit of an update.
The server was friendly and we had a good time. Although, the runners/bussers were in a rush out of the kitchen and would just run over you and not apologize. Our waiter caught it and apologized, but they really need to work on just standard service and the rule of thumb where you stop and let the guest pass you first.
We were celebrating an anniversary and decided to try Capital Grille for the first time. The server was friendly and attentive. We split the wedge salad which was delicious. Drinks were good. Then we got the entrees. At over $50 each you want your entree to sing with a good balance of flavors and to be executed well. Both entrees were not cooked to the desired doneness and the lobster in one of the dishes was cooked so long that it resembled rubbery shrimp. The flavors in the lobster mac and cheese lacked the finesse one would expect from an $18 side dish. In short there was nothing special about it.
For the price I expected my porterhouse steak to be perfectly cooked. It was a bit too charred for medium well. Service and staff was good. Didn't feel like fine dining with people wearing hoodies. Felt like a chain restaurant instead of an intimate mom and pop feel. Would I go back? I'd probably just go for Bern's instead since their porterhouse was amazing. But, otherwise meh. Maybe.
This visit was the second time this month we dined at Capital Grille...this was also a the second time we asked for our leftover spinach, mac n cheese and truffle fries to take home along with our left over fillets...we discovered at home after the first visit, we were shorted the mac n cheese and the spinach, mistakes happen,... the second visit on 24 Oct 2017,...upon seating , it was mentioned to our server ( who was also our server at the earlier visit of this month) that we were missing the items on our previous visit and was assured a repeat incident will not happen...once at home, opened the leftover bags and this time the truffle fries are missing...,normally , I would let it go, but a repeat shortcoming needs to be addressed regarding the procedure for leftovers to be taken home....each case the leftovers were a sizable portion and not spoonfuls....the portions at Capital Grille are amply provided hence the take home request....hopefully management can rectify the post dinner leftover system.
This was my second visit and my wife’s first. The entire meal was a great experience from start to finish. The French Onion Soup was the best I have ever eaten. The bread service and filet were very good as well and the service was definitely on par with our expectations. I highly recommend this for a special occasion or night out.
