The Capital Grille - Stamford Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I came here to celebrate our baby girl, due on December 13. We had been here before for Valentine’s Day and at different locations, such as FL and DC. We enjoy our visits every time.
But this one was outstanding!! The food, our waiter Jermaine, he made our visit even more pleasant. We didn’t want desert, but he knew because of my pregnancy, I will have the urge sooner or later. He gave us desert to go and 2 flutes of champagne to celebrate our baby girl. We will definitely use these glasses at the hospital to celebrate.
We ordered filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly and our kale salad was delishhhh.
We will definitely come back again after baby’s arrival.
I've been to the Capital Grille hundreds of times. As always, the food was great. On this particular occasion, which was a business lunch, when the server delivered my shrimp cocktail unfortunately she spilled the cocktail sauce all over me and the table. She apologized, and put a new napkin down on the table (to cover up the mess), but (a) it took two more requests to get her to bring me a new napkin and (b) as I sat there for the remainder of my lunch with cocktail sauce on my clothes, I became increasingly surprised and disappointed that nobody else (like the manager) came to check in and/or apologize. I do love the Capital Grille - but this particular experience was disappointing.
I have eaten at this location several times and most recently, found the service lacking. Our reservation was early 6P and the restaurant was mostly empty. We were shown to a table when almost all the booths were open. Our hostess took our guest's coat at the table (I had to ask), but left it on an adjacent banquette and did not check it as requested. When we finished our entrees, the plates sat on the table for a good 10 minutes before they were cleared. The desert took 20 minutes to arrive and then only after I asked about its status. Food quality was good - but not spectacular - on par with previous visits, but the service was definitely lacking. As this is a premium priced establishment, there is no excuse for this. Certainly nothing done to surprise or delight us...
While the location and ambiance was very good and our waitress was very good and helpful; the filet mignon was not good. Both my husband and son asked for a med-well and both were cremated - can't believe that a chef in a steakhouse can't get it right...not everyone wants rare steak. I had the roasted chicken and it was delicious. I went to the Capital Grille in Boston a few weeks ago and the filet mignon was amazing so the Stamford location was a real let down. I overheard the guest at the next table saying his steak was over cooked too. Steak Chefs need to be able to grille according to guests wishes and med-well does not need to be cremated. I cook it all the time on my home grille with success every time. I would not recommend this restaurant for steak but roast chicken is a definite. Also, the salad and chowder were fabulous.
This was our second visit during the current restaurant week, though we have dined at Capital Grill many times in the past. Though I was dissatisfied during our previous visit with the "restaurant week" offering of Caesar Salad, which I mentioned to the waiter, he suggested I try it again. I did and it was much improved. Everything else, as in the past, was excellent. We enjoyed being able to dine at one of our favorite restaurant at a less than "break the bank" cost.
Even though it was restaurant week, the service was impeccable. The portions were very good, even for the restaurant week menu. My only complaint and it has happened before, is that the air conditioning is far too cold. Last month when I went, we moved to the bar area because it was uncomfortably cold.
