The Capital Grille - Stamford Ratings and Reviews
We went to celebrate our engagement and it was absolutely perfect. We were seated right away and our waiter, Frank, explained the menu wonderfully. I had the lobster bisque to start and it was divine. The steak was perfectly cooked and the Brussel sprouts were delicious. We also had the truffle fries which are a favorite of mine. Although this place is definitely not cheap, it is worth the money for a special occasion.
We had a superb dining experience at The Capital Grille. We had reserved using Open Table. When we arrived at the restaurant the hostess informed us that the table was not yet ready. Our reservation was for 7:15 and we had arrived at 7:05 so we understood completely and were content to sit and wait. Within a few minutes the managing partner, Tim Wilkins, came to us to apologize and say that a couple of tables were slow in leaving. Again, we understood and were happy to wait. He came back again a few minutes later to make sure that were were happy and to report on the progress. Shortly after that he came and escorted us to our table, apologizing again, and told the server to take good care of us. In all, I think our seating was only about 10-15 minutes late. Our server, Eric Bussey, was very attentive and pleasant. The bread basket was delivered immediately to our table as soon as we were seated and contained a variety of delicious, fresh breads. We ordered appetizers; Beet with Goat Cheese Salad and New England Clam Chowder. Both arrived fairly quickly and both were expertly prepared and delicious. Soon after our plates were cleared our main courses arrived. I had the Beef Tenderloin and Lobster Tails. The preparation and presentation were perfect; the lobster and beef were cooked exactly as ordered, hot and napped with a delicious sauce. The beef and lobster were so tender I practically did not have to cut it and it almost melted in my mouth. My husband had a wonderful Veal Chop also cooked perfectly as ordered, hot and tender. The sides we ordered came immediately after our plates were put down. We had excellent scalloped potatoes and wonderful creamed spinach. The portions were generous and we enjoyed every bite. We concluded our meal with delicious Coconut Sorbet. It was obvious that Mr. Wilkins and his staff takes their work very seriously and genuinely want their customers to enjoy their dining experience and they deliver that.
The food here was great. We had a selection of fish and steak at our table. Everyone seemed satisfied. My filet was cooked perfectly to my specification. I would recommend this restaurant for a date night or business gatherings. Service was a bit slow, therefore this would not be a great place to bring children.
Excellent Thanksgiving Dinner! John Desmaris provided 5 diamond service. Food was excellent, and offered great choices. All served in excellent fashion; hot and tasty. Wine was good, and dessert and cappuccino excellent. Plan to be there next year and for other special occasions, or just lunch anytime.
Thanksgiving Day. Felt like waiter was rushing us. A little too anxious to take our entire order. When the meals were served, they were not placed in front of guests as they had been ordered and waiter and service person had a little spat about it. Spat is fine, just don't do it in front of paying customers. Three guests had steak. Waiter did not wait after steak served to ask if it was cooked to our liking.
I know it was a holiday and the establishments wants to turn the table over promptly, but meal was over $500.00. For that kind of money, let me enjoy myself.
My husband and I came here to celebrate our baby girl, due on December 13. We had been here before for Valentine’s Day and at different locations, such as FL and DC. We enjoy our visits every time.
But this one was outstanding!! The food, our waiter Jermaine, he made our visit even more pleasant. We didn’t want desert, but he knew because of my pregnancy, I will have the urge sooner or later. He gave us desert to go and 2 flutes of champagne to celebrate our baby girl. We will definitely use these glasses at the hospital to celebrate.
We ordered filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly and our kale salad was delishhhh.
We will definitely come back again after baby’s arrival.
I've been to the Capital Grille hundreds of times. As always, the food was great. On this particular occasion, which was a business lunch, when the server delivered my shrimp cocktail unfortunately she spilled the cocktail sauce all over me and the table. She apologized, and put a new napkin down on the table (to cover up the mess), but (a) it took two more requests to get her to bring me a new napkin and (b) as I sat there for the remainder of my lunch with cocktail sauce on my clothes, I became increasingly surprised and disappointed that nobody else (like the manager) came to check in and/or apologize. I do love the Capital Grille - but this particular experience was disappointing.
I have eaten at this location several times and most recently, found the service lacking. Our reservation was early 6P and the restaurant was mostly empty. We were shown to a table when almost all the booths were open. Our hostess took our guest's coat at the table (I had to ask), but left it on an adjacent banquette and did not check it as requested. When we finished our entrees, the plates sat on the table for a good 10 minutes before they were cleared. The desert took 20 minutes to arrive and then only after I asked about its status. Food quality was good - but not spectacular - on par with previous visits, but the service was definitely lacking. As this is a premium priced establishment, there is no excuse for this. Certainly nothing done to surprise or delight us...
While the location and ambiance was very good and our waitress was very good and helpful; the filet mignon was not good. Both my husband and son asked for a med-well and both were cremated - can't believe that a chef in a steakhouse can't get it right...not everyone wants rare steak. I had the roasted chicken and it was delicious. I went to the Capital Grille in Boston a few weeks ago and the filet mignon was amazing so the Stamford location was a real let down. I overheard the guest at the next table saying his steak was over cooked too. Steak Chefs need to be able to grille according to guests wishes and med-well does not need to be cremated. I cook it all the time on my home grille with success every time. I would not recommend this restaurant for steak but roast chicken is a definite. Also, the salad and chowder were fabulous.
