The Capital Grille - Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Our experience was awesome! Met friends for dinner. Food was great and service was impeccable. Immediately seated for our reservation by courteous hostess. Not inexpensive but every appetizer, entree, and side that we tried was excellent. Decent wine list and very solid choice for cocktails. In the former Frank Lloyd Wright archives facility so that gave the ambience a very specific feel. Great place. Allen
The evening started with us wanting to have a glass of great Chardonnay before dinner like we always do. Unfortunately we were told they were out of premiumt Chardonnay(Cakebread). Our server Joe M recommended the Patz & Hall which my wife declined but I had a glass and it was very mediocre. I would have thought a nice restaurant would have a Mer Soleil Reserve or Rombauer by the glass but they did not. The meals were great and our 2 glasses of 2008 Ch du Pape Beaucastel at $47 a glass were great. Our server Joe was very attentive and could see I was very disappointed with the chardonnay issue. Other than the poor chardonnay we enjoyed everything else.
NEW YEARS 2017. First time ever wasn't perfect after years of perfection. The restaurant invited us back to make it right. Will chalk up the experience to the holiday.I was called back and we spoke and was told how sorry they were. Perfect handling of the problem and we will keep this as our number 1 go to restaurant because of the extreme care giver re n to us as customers. All's well that as t ends well!
My husband ordered a bone in filet medium rare and it came to him medium. He reluctantly sent it back since he was paying so much for the steak. They cooked a new one perfectly, gave us a shrimp cocktail for his wait and did not charge us for the steak or the shrimp cocktail. Amazing service and the food was outstanding.
After all of my previous rave reviews of the Capital Grille, I am sad to report that our next upscale steak outing will be elsewhere. The service was a negative factor. Service should be seamless and the service called too much attention to itself. We were consistently interrupted at inappropriate times for check in, and food was delivered unceremoniously.
Wine- the printed wine menu was not updated to reflect contemporary prices and availability. Thus, the first bottle of wine we ordered had had a radical increase in price, so we chose a second option. That bottle was out of stock. 20-25 minutes after being seated, we still had no wine, and ended up selecting a fabulous bottled (Cade Cabernet Sauvignon- highly recommended), yet spending more than we would have preferred just to move past the selection process.
We thought that perhaps the management might offer some compensation for this inconvenience, yet received nothing beyond profuse apologies.
Steaks were great, as usual, and new field green and beet salad was a big hit. Yet, this is our second experience of less than superior service. For $500+ for 3 people, with no dessert, we are planning to try Mastro's for our next outing.
We celebrated a friend's birthday at Capital Grille. It was delicious and wonderful, as it always is and our friend was delighted. The restaurant was very crowded and we had a short wait, but the hostess found a quiet area for us where we could have conversation.
Best service I've seen in Scottsdale in a long time. The wait staff made you feel really welcome, not like they were doing you a favor to wait on you. Lovely ambiance. The menu was diverse. I ordered the "Lobster Roll" which was only O.K. as the roll was dry and over toasted. It overpowered the fragile lobster. My friend fared better with the "The Plate" of a couple of sliders, etc. The ice cream was totally melted on the "Chocolate Lava Cake". All the same we will go back and try again.
My husband and I always have a wonderful experience at Capital Grille in Scottsdale. Oscar is a spectacular bartender, Eric is impeccable at dining service & wine recommendations, and Saul always makes sure that each table is tended to. This restaurant has a great team whom all work together. Great job!
Granted we went on thanksgiving to avoid a big family meal or a hotel buffet but this was unlike any capital grill we have been in before. First it is solid in the burbs and you will see all types of people including people wearing shorts and T-shirt’s - no dress code?
While we were having drinks at the bar we saw how crazy the main dining room was with all kinds on kids running around etc. So we ask for a table in their bar/lounge area which appeared a bit more romantic, smaller, etc. They were nice enough to accommodate the request.... then promptly sat a family with a baby at the table next to us... at 8:30pm. Who has a small child and baby out so late? Of course you can imagine what happened next. As the parents tried to get loaded the kids were antsy and the baby was off and on crying. We had a miserable time. No one apologized or offered to move us etc.
Last thing was general service - awful. We had to flag someone down a few times and never knew who our actual server was. No one came over and introduced themselves, etc.
So overall a bad experience but what makes it worSe is we would most likely never visit a capital grill again in any city.
Food was good quality if that helps.
I will start by saying if you are just wanting a steak it’s pretty good. For the price it is so not worth it!!!! Weak bartenders good cocktail list but bartenders can’t make the drinks, I asked for an old fashion I got a glass of whiskey with a bunch of ice and maraschino cherry , the kiss of death for a bartender a place like that should make an great old fashion. Appetizer were weak not a place for foodies at all prosciutto wrapped mozzarella was the worst and they don’t care you don’t like it. Food is good if it was at a bar and grill and priced that way I don’t get the prices and the service a very dated experience . Servers said the same thing to every table very blah. The place lacks personality. I will never go again I feel I got robbed in a way because the price was so much and the food and experience was underwelling.
