The Capital Grille - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Service, appetizers, sides and wine were all 5 stars. Unfortunately all 3 of us in our party thought our steaks were a bit overdone. We all ordered medium, perhaps we should have gone with rare or medium rare. Just a touch of pink in the very center of my steak. two-thirds of it had no pink at all, looked well done. My wife and son's steaks were actually a little more well done. They weren't shoe leather overdone and tasted okay so we didn't send them back.
Otherwise the place was super. Calamari appetizer was outstanding. So was the service.
Although we were seated in a booth in a quiet area as requested the piped in music was so inappropriate and loud that we would not come back again unless this is corrected. There should be some consideration for older persons dining at Capitol Grill. We expect the ambiance to be quiet in such an expensive restaurant.
We were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary. The entire staff was aware of our special occasion. They sprinkled little hearts across our table which was, I'm sure, the giveaway. As part of the occasion, we received a raspberry chocolate mocha brownie for two and a single red rose. It was special.
My husband and I do not usually go for high end cuisine, so cannot judge as food experts. My husband had the porterhouse. I had the steak and lobster. Both were exceptional to us.
All in all, the evening was memorable and well worth the price.
Having dined many times over the years at Capitol Grille, this last visit was very disappointing. The service was spotty; the waiter was busy and we waited long periods between ordering, eating and leaving. The busgirl cleared two plates and then disappeared , leaving us with dirty plates for over ten minutes until we called the waiter. While two steaks, salmon and halibut entrees were good, my salad had mozzarella that was dry, chewy and tasteless and had very little balsamic to moisten the bad cheese. I believe the cheese to be old. In addition, the potato au gratin side dish was tasteless with little cheese and not very good at all. Lastly, we were seated in one of the booths off the lobby so it was extremely cold each time the front door was opened. Should be some way to divert cold blasts into the restaurant in winter. Overall, it was a disappointing meal with a bad salad and sides and poor service . I don't believe we will return to Capitol Grille because of its inconsistencies.
Was not seated until 40 min past our reserved time . It appeared that the restaurant was significantly overbooked. The bar and lobby was wall to wall people. However once seated our server was excellent, we never felt rushed and were able to enjoy our meal.
Thanksgiving dinner. The portions were very generous and the turkey exceptionally tasty. Among the steakhouses in downtown Pittsburgh, we rank Capital Grille as one of the top two for food quality, attentive service, wine list, and ambiance ... it’s a modest “miss” for us because the noise level is a bit too high for our preference (one person’s “lively & robust scene” is another person’s cacophony ... ie, not really a big “minus” just our personal preference).
Went to Cap Grille for Thanksgiving dinner and it was awesome. In addition to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner option, they also offer the dinner menu which was nice. My wife ordered a fillet but requested the traditional Thanksgiving sides and she was accommodated. Great service as usual. Have been here for dinner numerous times as well and the experience is always very good.
The Capital Grille earns its high-quality reputation in every aspect; ambiance, service, accommodations, food, beverages, and dessert! We celebrated Thanksgiving there as a family of six from 16 years young through 84 years old and every one of us was more than satisfied. Thank you CG!
We were traveling and met with family for Thanksgiving lunch before we split up and went opposite directions. The best decision we could have possibly made. The meal was great. They had an awesome traditional Thanksgiving meal just like if we’d been at home for a family Thanksgiving gathering. The Staff was super attentive and very friendly. We’ll not miss a trip to Capital Grille in the future when we visit Pittsburgh.
Another great night at the Capital Grill. The staff is always amazing. We always feel we are treated like we are the most important guests in the place! My wife and I started in the bar where we had great drinks and friendly, professional service. This was a Tuesday night before Thanksgiving. I thought it might be dead, but no, there was plenty of activity so we didn't feel as if we were the only ones there. I had a bone in filet, which was one of the evening specials. It was and inch and a half thick, cooked perfectly rare, and it was wonderful. I could only manage half out it. My wife loved her scallops paired with a mushroom risotto. She started with the lobster bisque which was as good as she has ever tasted. Great place! Don't expect a cheap night out though, it is expensive, similar to Morton's, or Eddie Merlot on price.
I got the chicken plate and the chicken was so dry and the sauce it was in was not a good taste. My other friend got that as well but her chicken was way under cooked. The plates menu needs refreshed with different options as it has basically stayed the same for a long time.
Our SERVICE by the wait staff was terrific! JADE was the young lady's name and she was special! The food is amazing and would recommend it to anyone for a special occasion. We made it a point to talk to the manager on how the evening was!
Thank you for a special evening!
We were an out of town party of four looking for a great steak house to fill in while Ruth Chriss was closed for renovation. Unfortunately The Capital Grille didn't fill the shoes, particularly for the price of the shoes. Food was fine, not bad, but nothing left us feeling like "wow, I really enjoyed that." We also had a full two hour wait for our entrees. Even with drinks and a starter salad course, that long wait in the middle eventually became distracting and had us all wondering what went wrong in the kitchen.
The barman was great. The waitress, however, was barely engaging and almost gave the impression that we should feel priveleged to have her serve us. Hard to find when we needed her too. All other staff were very helpful and appreciative. Food and wine ,as always at CG's , was fantastic.
