The Capital Grille - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
We took advantage of the Pittsburgh Restaurant Week menu and thoroughly enjoyed our delicious meals. It’s a great way to enjoy a nicely priced meal here. Service was also very good. My only complaints are the high wine prices (wines priced under $40 a bottle are few and far between) and a minor point that seemed out of place for such a polished establishment; We arrived wearing heavy topcoats and no one offered to hang them up, so we threw them on the seat beside us.
Went restaurant week with my daughters for lunch. Very crowded which was to be expected given the quality of food for restaurant week pricing. I had the lobster bisque for a $5 up charge and the salmon and cheesecake bite for dessert. The bisque had a good bit of lobster but the flavor was just ok. Salmon was very good and the cheesecake bite with berries was very good too. My girls had the steak and side salad. They asked for medium well but the steak was unevenly done--one end was medium and the other was well done. Flavorful but unevenly cooked. My older daughter had the wedge salad for appetizer which was very good and my younger daughter had the clam chowder which had a fantastic flavor. I would go with either of those over paying add'l $5 for the less flavorful lobster bisque. One daughter had the cheesecake bite and like me, enjoyed it and the other had the flourless chocolate cake bite. The chocolate cake is very rich and needed a dollop of whipped cream In lieu of the berries to offset the rich chocolate flavor. We really like the Capital Grille and usually go only for special events so we try to take advantage whenever restaurant week comes around.
We dined during Restaurant Week, which added to the crowd. The fixed-priced menu for Restaurant Week featured the Grill's favorites and provided plenty of choices. I had a filet and grilled shrimp, which were good, but apparently cooled while awaiting service. The server was friendly and efficient. While the food was tasty, it wasn't extraordinary. If you just want a good steak and potatoes, this restaurant fills the bill. If you want something special, stick to the appetizers.
Took advantage of Restaurant Week menu. Food was excellent as always! Only thing lacking was the service. Waitress became annoyed when I asked for the Restaurant Week menu and from there on did her job at a minimum. Regardless, food was excellent and will definitely go back again.
Other than a slight wait even with a reservation, everything about this place was amazing. The service, food, and overall experience were great. The wine was a bit overpriced even for fine dining restaurants but again, the check came and we paid them what they wanted with no issues. Definitely recommend and we will definitely return!
The food was alright. The filets for $46.00 seemed overpriced. They were very good, however, everything else was additional. The salad for $11.00 was not worth the price. The 4 sides were alright. We had the au gratin potatoes which we all felt were kind of tasteless. The first time we had gone to the Capital Grille the meal was exceptional. This time we all felt it was just ok.
The waiter we had was exceptional. He knew everything there was to know on the menu and was very attentive. We felt he was excellent!
We enjoyed a lovely evening for my parents’ 60th anniversary. David U did an outstanding job of attending to our needs. He was cognizant of and patient with my parents’ hearing difficulties and confusion. Plus he brought several surprises to celebrate their special day. The steaks were magnificent. My dad said the lobster bisque was the best he’s ever had, and he has traveled the world over during his career. Capital Grille was a great choice for a special night!
Was a wonderful choice for Christmas Eve. We got there early after mass and spent about an hour in the comfortable bar before dinner. The pace of dinner was great. The food was great. It was a truly enjoyable evening.
(The only thing I think they need to do is get rid of the stuffed deer heads on the walls. I recognize some people like them, but they aren't my taste. Seems too old and too masculine for the 21st century. Again - just my personal opinion.)
I've been to the Capital Grille many times, and I've always enjoyed my experience. This last visit was less than ideal. Our server was good and attentive, but it took a long, long time to get our meals. Our salad never came, and when my porterhouse arrived, it was lukewarm at best. I ate it and didn't send it back (I know this isn't what you should do because the kitchen doesn't know something was wrong) because we had plans after dinner (it was our son's birthday) and I knew it would take long to get it back. By coincidence, my wife's cousin was dinning there that night, and they sent their meals back twice because they were cold. Apparently there was an issue in the kitchen that night. It was busy, but it's always busy. It was disappointing to spend that much money on a meal and not have it be great, but this night it wasn't. As I said, I've eaten there many times (I'm supposed to go there next month with some friends), but this trip wasn't great.
I've had many good meals, but this was not up to par. The brioche bun did not seem fresh, even after sending it back to be replaced, and my beef was undercooked (I did not send it back a second time), my asparagus had too much lemon on it. Just very disappointed. I was with four other business associates, so I didn't want to say anything further. As always, the service was excellent.
Extremely disappointing. Caesar steak salad was ordered medium-well. It came out medium-rare, bleeding on the lettuce. Sent back and came back charred and blackened on outside and medium at best on inside, with the lettuce sitting in blood. Server ignored our table, never came back to inquire on the quality of the food since it had bee returned. Our drinks were never refilled, we asked both a water person and another server to either send our server over or to refill drinks. We tried to flag him down but he ignored us. He never returned. Server finally showed up with check, my steak and salad sitting virtually uneaten and he simply picked up the plate and plopped down the check. We asked for drink refills which still didn't happen. This was a business lunch so entire table was irritated. This has been my THIRD bad experience here (though undercooked steak was handled MUCH better in the past), and this is a costly place. Not worth it, I won't be back.
The Capital Grille In Pittsburgh is hands down our favorite steak house. We’ve tried every higher end one in town and just keep coming back here. If the bone in filet is on the menu that is what you should order. The service is always top notch. There’s literally not a single thing we would change there ( unless the just want to feed us for free). You won’t be disappointed if you enjoy finer dining and great service!
Great service! Great server! I have been to this location before and the experience was right; however, this time was certainly a let down. The steak was not cooked to order and the side dishes were less impressive than ordinary. With so many choices in the city, I'm not sure when I'll be ready to try this place again...
