The Capital Grille - Phoenix Ratings and Reviews
Christian Berry was our waiter and we can't say enough about him except he added so much to our dining experience with his honest assessment of our food and drink choices: spot on ! The entire dinner was delightful and perfectly prepared and served. Timeing was jusst right and attentiveness of the support staff perfect. We have eaten here a few times previously, but not regularly, however that will change because this place is hard to beat in all categories.
This is one of those places where you need to expect and be prepared to pay top dollar. It is also one of the rare cases where the money is well spent and you will enjoy a great meal and experience. This was our third dinner ever at a Capital Grille, and it was clearly our best. And by the way, the espresso flourless torte was fantastic!
Seated on arrival even though a bit early for 2 pm reservation. Waiter courteous & prompt, excellent service. We had both a regular and a reduced gluten meals. The gf meal was good, salmon excellent. Crab & shrimp sandwich excellent. No issues. We are return diners.
I was in Phoenix on business and wanted to find a nice spot for a client who was retiring.
The Capital Grill filled the bill. The food was delicious. I was expecting to drop a lot more money than I did but the lunch menu was quite reasonable and had a large selection of choices.
I personally had the 14oz bone in strip. Really good and at $29 including a side, a good value.
We did not drink alcohol which obviously lowers the check substantially, but at $90 before tip, I thought it was a steal.
Will be back! Highly recommended
An explanation of my 2 star service review: Our server was polite and took care of the needs at our table, but was somewhat awkward. The assisting wait staff was equally awkward. This would have been fine at many restaurants, and would not have warranted a low rating for service, but this is not any restaurant this is a fine dining establishment.
My 3 star rating for value is a result of the service.
We were greeted by a rather surly young man at the front desk and asked to wait 15 minutes while our table was cleaned and prepared. This was all OK as we knew that New Years Eve is a pretty hectic time. Once seated we were greeted by Michael, our waiter, and the experience went from OK to fantastic. One of our party is a professional chef of more than 20 years and he stated that Michael provided the best service he had ever experienced. High praise indeed.
The Capital Grille is a classic steak house with a classic steak house menu (plus some seafood and nods to contemporary fads like kale and beets) and classic steak house decor. Everything is clean and crisp and shiny, but the place does not have much personality, flair, or flavor. It's also expensive; we spent $200 for two with only one alcoholic drink ($15). My filet came under-cooked (ordered medium rare), and when I said so my server agreed that it didn't look ready. Sending it back was no hassle, and it was not overdone when it was returned. It was tender and well-presented but not particularly tasty. My wife ordered a bone-in filet, which I had never heard of before, and she enjoyed it. We split a cheesecake with "seasonal berries" for dessert (I'm not sure that strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries are in season in December, but they were good and definitely not frozen), which we enjoyed. For those who do not like dim rooms and candles on their tables, the Grille is moderately lit without candles. The main reason I do not recommend the Capital Grille is that it is a poor value; its sister restaurant Seasons 52 has a broader and more creative menu, lower prices, and a better ambiance (albeit dimmer than I prefer). Also, FWIW, this was our anniversary dinner. The server did not ask if this was a special occasion and when I said in passing that this was our anniversary she did not react or offer us any special consideration.
My wife I love this place, however it’s about 40 minutes from our house so we only make it there a couple times a year. We love wedge salads, however the only problem was a huge amount of dressing all over it. Didn’t want to be those people and send it back, just pushed it a little to the side. That said, the tuna was fantastic.
