The Capital Grille - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
When: Early December Saturday Night @715
Waiter: Gustavo (HIGHLY RECOMMEND)
What: Lobster Bisque, Tenderloin Poached Lobster, Lobster Mac
THE GOOD: WOW Where to start!!! First, on my reservation, I told them it was my gf's bday. As soon as I told them my name, they immediately turned to my gf and said "Happy Birthday Harley!" When I get to the table, there is a beautiful pink rose with a note saying happy bday from capital grille! Before we left they brought us over their signature birthday creme brulee and chocolate cake with Happy Birthday written in chocolate! I couldn't have been happier!
Second, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Asking for Gustavo if available because he was extremely educated on the wine/drink menu, along with the food menu itself! He was able to causally, and professionally explain the drink menu without making an amatuer drinker feel pressured.... stupid.... awkward, nothing! We have never been in this fancy or expensive of a restaurant before so even though I wanted to eat just about everything on the menu... Gustavo made me feel confident that I was going to enjoy what I had ordered! All in all, the servers and our Waiter Gustavo were EXCELLENT!!!
Lastly, The food was AMAZING. Best Food I Have Ever Eaten In My Life!!! That fact alone is reason to go- period! As an appetizer, we both got lobster bisque.... AMAZING!!!! I wish I could have had a bucket to take home! Then they brought out our entrees. We both got the Tenderloin Poached Lobster ordered as rare as legally allowed. Even though the inside of 1 of my tenderloins was a bit cold, I couldn't have been happier with the quality of the steaks that just melted in your mouth! Eating this poached lobster made me feel like I had never truly had lobster before.... AMAZING!!! AND THE LOBSTER MAC!!!
THE BAD: Seating was pretty tight so we could clearly hear every word of each couple next to us. One was fighting which was kinda awkward and the on the other side sat 4 guests one of which was very loud.
Service was spectacular. The waiters were there to address every need , courteous and friendly. The atmosphere was very soothing and quiet for a nice relaxing date with my wife. The food was delicious and follow that with a special birthday surprise for my wife after our meal. Capital Grille made my wife's birthday very special.
I was disappointed with my meal, the other people in the party enjoyed their meal. So for me it wasn't good, I was totally disappointed and won't return. This was the first time at Capital Grille for me, and heard so many great thing about the food very disappointed, too bad!
Our most recent visit, Nov. 2017, was a rare hiccup for a normally stellar restaurant. We have eaten at Capital Grille in Philadelphia many times, and have brought guests. But this time, we were disappointed in the entrees. I always order steak, but this time I ordered salmon, and it came to the table raw inside. I sent it back, and it came back to the table burnt. To be fair, the server offered to replace the entrée, but I refused. My husband ordered the filet mignon medium well, and what he got was a well done steak with inedible burnt edges.
The appetizers were good. Service and ambience were superb. Entrees this time, not so much.
This was my first time going to this establishment. I had a gift card. I had heard so much about this place. We were totally disappointed with the food and service. The food was not good at all. The service/waiter was not that attentive at all. The cocktail was the best part of the meal. I will not be going back there no recommending it to anyone.
I had dinner at capitol grill last evening. I ordered on of the specials "sea bass in some mushroom sauce". When I cut into the fish I saw that it was raw. I told the server to send it back. I waited and the manager came out and apologized. He asked if I wanted something while I wait. I agreed on a Caesar salad. When they brought my cooked sea bass out, it was the same piece over cooked in the same sauce the undercooked sat in. I could not eat it. They took it off the bill. Is that usual and customary for fine restaurants?
Our server, Robert Ballard, was excellent as always. The entire dining experience was very good, with one exception.
I ordered my 10oz filet well done and it arrived medium rare. Because I like to change preparations on occasion I did not send it back, however, I was slightly disappointed because I preferred well done. Overall, excellent as always experience and well worth the value.
