The Capital Grille - NY – Time Life Building Ratings and Reviews
i did not have a good experience at this resturant. the service was terrible. Everything took so long to arrive. i waited 15min for a drink only to be told its on its way and waited another 10min. My steak was over cooked and my wife steak was under cooked. The lobster mac and cheese only had 2 pieces of lobster in it. The only positive thing i can say is they did give us to free glass of champange since we was celebrating a bday and gave us a frew slice of cheese cake.. i definitely will not be returning to this resturant.
From the moment we walked in till the time we left we had an excellent experience. Host and hostess were very pleasant. Wait staff was wonderful... food and beverages were excellent... overall for our first time here was better than expected... we will definitely be back....
Our 2nd time to Capital Grill; first time in Garden City, Long Island. I give that location a slightly higher review than the 51st St. NYC location. Seated in one of the quiet rooms rather than the main salon on Valentine's evening, it was quiet & we could hear ourselves talk. I prefer the main dining area to feel connected but is good to know you offer quiet dining areas. Our sirloin steaks were cooked as requested & we enjoyed the truffle fries. The spinach w/garlic & oil was a bit too oily & hardly had a garlic taste. The same dish in Garden City was scrumptious with large chunks of garlic in it & less oil. Waitress was just attentive enough. All in all a good dining experience & city location a plus.
We booked a reservation for Valentine's Day via Open Table and were seated fairly quickly. Our table was upstairs in a small alcove where we were seated at a four top that could only seat 2 - very awkwardly located. Service was friendly but a bit slow. My tea sat empty for a good portion of the meal. The waiter clearing my salad noticed that I hadn't eaten it and inquired about whether or not I enjoyed it (I didn't, because of a bad piece of citrus) and kindly removed it from our bill. My husband enjoyed his salad and steak. The au gratin potatoes were tasty. I ordered the tenderloin and lobster tails - cooked to order and nicely flavored. Overall it was an okay meal, but the experience didn't match the bill. $$$$
I picked this restaurant for two reasons, the proximity to the theater that we were seeing a show after dinner and for their participation in NYC's restaurant week. I am so incredibly happy that I did! The food was amazing, the ambiance sublime and the waitstaff was superb. Our hostess was so accommodating when we asked if we could be seated in another area as the original table was next to a huge party and we were a little bit cramped. Our server was wonderful and immediately asked if we had time constraints and had us out before our specified time and yet we didn't feel the least bit rushed. The restaurant week menu had amazing choices and it was not a problem that I ordered from it but my husband ordered off the regular menu (I've experienced other places where that would have not been allowed). The food was incredible! My filet mignon was cooked to perfection and was so tender I could have sliced it with a butter knife. The mashed potato side was out of this world! My husband had a filet mignon also and although I ordered mine medium and he ordered his well done, they both came out exactly as we had requested. I'm looking forward to returning and trying some of the other entrees that were on the menu.
My wife and I have dined at this Capital Grille location for the past 3 years. Whether it is for restaurant week or celebrating a major milestone like getting a new job or after we got married, we always had a very enjoyable dining experience and service. That was until this past Thursday February 8th. We had a waiter by the name of Edward S. Edward's service was sub par to say the least. My wife and I both decided to order from the Restaurant week menu. Whether there was a correlation or not, Edward's service was terrible the entire time. After taking our initial drink and meal order he NEVER came back to check up on us. The only thing he asked us was if we wanted coffee/tea and this was AFTER we had already finished our dessert. It then took another 15 minutes for him to bring us our check and process our payment. We are very dissatisfied with our trip to Capital Grille this time and Edward S.'s service was way below the standard we are used to from Capital Grille.
Although there is construction outside, the interior is a lovely oasis beautifully decorated with an energetic atmosphere. The Restaurant Week lunch was better than expected,...excellent soups i.e. New England clam chowder and lobster bisque ($5 extra) for which the efficient waiter offered sherry as an extra making this soup exceptional. Dry aged sirloin and citrus glazed salmon entrees were scrumptious and generously portioned. Will definitely be back during non-restaurant weeks!
We went during Restaurant week after reading many reviews confirming the Capital Grill treats Restaurant Week people well. This is very true. The RW menu was presented with the regular menu and our wait person recommended items on the $42 three course RW menu. The food was great as was the outstanding service. They told us they have a $39 pre-theater menu 7 nights a week before 7 pm which is a bargain.
We will go back many times as we enjoyed our dinner. Even the wine list is reasonably priced for NYC.
