The Capital Grille - NY – Chrysler Center Ratings and Reviews
I love the Capital Grille. But this experience wasn't the best. It took 30 minutes for a waiter to appear, and that was only after I spoke with someone who appeared to be a manager.
The food was tremendous, as always.
Also, the crumbs were never removed from the table. Icky.
Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service
I had the lobster and crabmeat appetizer garnished with corn relish, Asian seared tuna and asparagus. Since it was a belated birthday celebration, they offered a complimentary dessert and glass of champagne - very thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyed. Great experience and beautiful surroundings.
What surprises one most is the courtesy and efficiency of the staff. They lead you to your table without fuss and will do their best to satisfy any wish you may have including a change of seating if your table is not to your liking. Unfortunately the noise level does not allow for quiet conversation but to be fair to the owners of the restaurant, it depends mostly on how lively the other guests feel. Finally, the sommelier remembered me from the evening before and went out of his way to be helpful; a nice touch, not often encountered in today's impersonal mass dining experiences.
Overall the service was good, our waiter Aaron was great! The chef met us personally and his cooking is amazing! We spent news years eve there and the evening manager was the WORST!! Super disrespectful she wanted us to eat in 30 minuets wanted us out of the restaurant in less than an hoir because she said she had too many reservations and that we couldn’t stay long, she rushed us in ordering and made it very uncomfortable for us; until the chef came and talked to us and he was more respectful than she was. Other than that the food and service was good!
First thing first......we were running behind because of Christmas Eve traffic in Midtown and I called ahead to let them know. Got there, checked in, and somehow they marked me as a no-show on Opentable. Had to file an explanation of some sort with Opentable so hopefully it was straightened out now.
The food, gosh the food.....my steak was supposed to be their specialty (NY strip with the special sauce). I ordered it to be medium rare, it came out medium at best. The steak was not edible -- it was encrusted with a quarter inch think of pepper (I kid you not), assuming that is their special seasoning, and but the actual meat part was completely flavorless. It was supposed to have been aged but one would not be able to tell. The "seasoning" of that thick crust of pepper was completely too spicy and destroyed whatever other flavor that crust was supposed to convey to the steak. I could only taste the pepper but nothing else. It was not good, and that is an understatement. I took three bites. I could have sent it back but noting the number of people in the restaurant, I just chalked it up and note to self to not return.
Dessert, cream brulee, was good. I did finish it. The appetizer, tuna tartare, was flavorless and mediocre at best. All and all it was a let down for a Christmas eve dinner. I don't know if it is just this location or not, but no, I will not recommend Capital Grille to anyone.
The food and service are fine, the place is very nice. Dinning here could be enjoyable, although slightly overpriced. However, getting to your table is a problem . . .the coat check and the check in area are combined, which creates such confusion between those checking their coats, getting their coats, checking in with the hostess and getting an assigned table that people who are finished eating and those just arriving are mixed up and it feels like a rugby scrum
Our waiter was very attentive and had great suggestions and input. He brought out ginger ale for my children and champagne for my mother and I. Made an everyday meal feel like something very special. The food was very good and I would be happy to dine here again or recommend this to anyone.
The food was excellent. I had rack of lamb and they served four double chops impossible to finish. The quality of the meat was outstanding. The restaurant was noisy and crowded obviously full of business Holiday parties. My only complaint is the service. The waiters were in a frenzy although I will admit we were not rushed. Our desert was whisked away without asking if we were finished. I've eaten at Capital Grille before and will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a holiday time. If you're looking for outstanding food and massive amounts of it, this is the place.
