The Capital Grille - Minneapolis Ratings and Reviews
Our evening was fabulous. First we were given a table that faced a wall so I asked the hostess if we could change. She accommodated is with another table, better but not great. As I was waiting for my friend to arrive, she came over and said a booth had opened up and did I want that? Of course I did so that part worked out well. Service was outstanding as Tony was our waiter and he is one of the best if not the best server at the restaurant! The food was delicious- steak done perfectly as always. Capital Grille is my favorite steakhouse for food, service, atmosphere , and friendliness of all the staff. I give it 5 stars😊
I was rather underwhelmed by this visit to the Capital Grille. It has always been our "go to" restaurant for any special occasion meal, but this visit fell far short of previous ones in the areas of ambience and service.
It began when we pulled up for valet parking. Capital Grille no longer offers free valet parking. Granted, "free" is a liberal term because I habitually tip valet workers very well, so it was disappointing to see the 'valet parking - $10' sign out front. Once we went in, the host staff was unimpressive as well. We waited almost 10 minutes to get to our table. There was no coat check and the people running the desk seemed disinterested in our presence. Once we got to our table, it would prove to be difficult to enjoy our meal, as the table directly across from us was a group of 20-something professional guys who were loud, obnoxious and half-drunk, making any conversation between my wife and I nearly impossible, without shouting. The server also never introduced himself by name (something that has always been done in the past), or maybe he did and we just didn't hear him above all the noise. He was moderately attentive to our needs and was a very nice guy, but it still wasn't on the level we have experienced in the past (perhaps it was because he was focused on the loud group across from us). Upon leaving, we once again had issues with the disinterested front desk staff and the valet brought our car up so that it was in the middle of the street (since all the spots at the curb were full) which was a little dangerous for both my wife and I considering the restaurant's location in downtown Minneapolis.
Ultimately it wasn't an awful experience. The meal was, as always, very good, but the level of service just wasn't there and that's part of what I pay for when I visit the Capital Grille in any city. It's one of the main reasons I go there to dine, and it just wasn't there on this Friday night.
We had another fabulous meal at the Capital Grille! We have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Everything on the menu is delicious, the wine list is out of this world and the staff is incredible. We came here the night we got engaged 12 years ago and have been coming here for special occasions as a family. Love it here!!
The food was delicious and the service was the best I have had in a long time. They had an extensive wine list and the décor was very clean but old school....a lot of pictures of old men. There were some very rude and noisy drunks there for a while, but everything else went smooth. I would eat here again.
The ambiance was fantastic and our waiter, Jeff was spot on with his efforts to make our evening a memorable one. It was my wife's 75 birthday that we wanted to celebrate at Capital Grille. We have celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at the Capital Grille in the past. We enjoy having our celebrations at a fantastic restaurant. We get to meet the staff which makes it a celebration even more memorable since the staff at Capital Grille as extended family. We will be back later on this year.
Was taken back when a customer walked by our table in white tennis and light blue jeans. Going to Capital Grille is always special occasion for us and one that we dress up for. Wish they would impose a dress code..especially for NEW YEARS EVE....great food and ambiance..shocked at the attire of some folks.....
We had a 7:00pm reservation and didn’t get seated until 7:40pm. They were very apologetic and had appetizers for us just moments after sitting down to make up for our wait. Our server Jeremiah provider excellent service throughout the whole meal. All of our food was outstanding, and steaks cooked perfectly. Great place to spend an evening celebrating with family.
We had an excellent experience they made our anniversary very special. Jim and Kennis are exceptional with seating and making us feel warm and welcomed. Todd our server was great and knowledgeable on the menu. Cannot say enough pleasantries for these gentlemen. Highly recommended and thank you again!!!
Capital Grille is one of those places in Minneapolis that you save for a special occasion, and save a lot if you plan to each get an appetizer, main course and a drink or two... The service is always top-notch and surroundings are welcoming, not stuffy. They worked hard to make sure my wife’s dietary needs were taken care of and the porcini and balsamic ribeye were truly something to write about—perfectly cooked and so much flavor you just need to take small bites and enjoy every one.
Really disappointed in Capital Grill. They couldn't get the steak done as ordered, it came out almost well done when it was ordered as medium. They did give us a new one, but that took 15 minutes so one diner sat there while others ate. For a $65 steak, I'd think they would take care to get it right, but apparently not. The server didn't even bother to check in after the food was brought to the table, so I had to track him down to resolve the steak issue. Not impressed and won't be back.
The Capitol Grille is an excellent restaurant for quality of food and service. I experienced cold air coming down the aisle from the front door every time it opened and was uncomfortable enough to put my coat over my legs. I asked the waiter if there was something he could do about it and he did. He found us another table away from the draft. The swordfish with crab meat was wonderful and my husband's steak was so tender it melted in my mouth. Wonderful atmosphere and worth the $$$$ for our special occasion.
The waiter and food was amazing. However when we arrived we were told we had a time limit on our reservation since it was a busy night. We were told this as the hostess was drinking a Red Bull and telling us they had been there all day. My husband and I were out for a nice holiday meal followed by a show. We ordered our food and dessert. As we were talking and finishing our wine the hostess appeared and starred at us and proceeded to point. Noticing the time we were past our time as he told us. We left the restaurant upset as his attitude ruined the ambiance of the dinner for us. I expect to be able to enjoy my food and drinks and not be rushed when I am spending that amount of money.
As alway this restaurant is wonderful in so many ways. Comfortable and beautiful atmosphere, excellent service with knowledgable servers and the food is consistently wonderful. I have always enjoyed bringing people to lunches or dinners and never been disappointed. This is someplace that I can count on (and they accommodate my table requests) to bring business colleagues, friends, family and out of town visitors.
Dined with friends for a holiday lunch at the C. G. Service, food and ambiance was as we expected: SUPERB! What more positive can be said about the Capital Grille? It is a Minneapolis "mainstay" and 'always right' for any special occasion. That is why we chose it!
I was very excited for a romantic dinner. The only reservation left was 8:45 so we planned a late dinner. We were seated just in the dining room next to the front door where we felt the frigid air every time the door was opened. The wine list was probably the best part of the night. While overpriced, I expect to pay more for wine at a restaurant with 5star expectations. The wine list was great and so was the wine we chose. I ordered the bone in ribeye as it was recommend by our server. I ordered a medium rare steak, it came out medium well. The server came back and asked how it was, I told him, maybe I should have ordered rare if they cook steaks this long. When my reordered steak came back out it was purple in the middle. I couldn’t justify wasting another $56 steak so I ate around the edges and took the rest home. We ordered brussel sprouts as a side dish that were hard and fiberous. I wanted to sit and enjoy the wine to salvage some of our night but we felt rushed as we were the only customers left in the restaurant and the host was standing at the desk counting tips and loudly singing. All in all, I spent $250 for a less than mediocre experience. Very disappointed.
It was outstanding! we when were really surprised when our server Becky brought champagne to the table gratis to celebrate our occasion. And also a special dessert to celebrate our business invention and venture. The food was delicious, and the service was spectacular. We will be back for our next step of the venture and celebration!
