The Capital Grille - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
Because it was Restaurant Week, the staff seemed frustrated to be working. I’m sure their tips aren’t as good this week, but I feel like that made that very evident. I’ve been on normal weeks and it’s been an incredible experience. This felt like any normal steakhouse...
Being new to KC, I had heard a lot about this restaurant and how great the steaks and service are. We ended up there on the first night of restaurant week. It was a zoo, but they quickly seated us at our reserved time.
The service, on the other hand, was terrible. We saw plenty of bus staff, but not a waiter for nearly 20 minutes. Couldn't get a drink, couldn't order an app, nothing. When the waiter did finally appear he acted like he was doing us a favor by taking time away from his busy schedule. He routinely made us feel like an imposition, not like a guest.
This is a steak house. I ordered a steak. I had to ask, and wait for, a steak knife. Really? Twice, the waiter reached directly over the top of me to serve or clear. Really? The steaks are well aged but not trimmed properly. As I got closer to the edge of my steak it had a rancid taste that really sort of ruined the rest of it. I had my friend taste it and she agreed.
The food was acceptable, but the service was really not acceptable for a place like this. No one ever asked us if we wanted a bottle of wine. We couldn't get a wine list. We were never asked if we wanted additional drinks, etc.
With so many great offerings in KC I doubt I would go back to this restaurant.
This was anot what we are use to at Capital Grille. This was for restaurant week. Service was good except they brought our food out before we were done with our soup and salad and stuck the main course plates on the corner were we had to basically hold them while trying to finish our salad/soup, just ridiculous for a upscale restaurant , felt rushed. Steak was full of gristle to the point that the 14oz bone in steak turned into a 4 oz and was not good, that was a shock, and they never asked us if our steaks were cooked correctly or if they were to our liking. The portion of sides were fixed like always and the green beans were very hard (uncooked like) and we usually love them. Probably won’t be back which is a shame. We brought our friends for their first time because we bragged about this place to them and they had the same experience as we did. We were kind of embarrassed.
Everything was fantastic as usual. One thing that was nice was we ordered off the restaurant week menu and the waiter served and treated us just like they do when ordering off the regular menu. This is a restaurant you can count on for the food, drink and service to be exceptional!
We have been here over four times. Each time we go it seems to be worse than the last. The service has gone down hill fast. The food was amazing, but now they can't even cook a steak right. We asked for medium rare and it came out medium almost medium well in some spots . The service went from classy to almost like a Applebee's. They had people bring water before constantly, we had to ask for refill on water. Food took way to long to come out. It was a overall negative experience .
During Restaurant Week, I chose to introduce my family to what I thought would be one of the top three choices among 148 restaurants participating. Was I ever mistaken! The first course, a cup of New England Clam Chowder, was reminiscent of a canned product, and served lukewarm. The Dry Aged Sirloin with Roasted Pepper, Fresh Mozzarella and Arugula Salad was a disappointment. Some of the meat was not edible...too tough to chew with copious waste. The side salad had a tasty dressing, but the ice cold whole pickled onions were stark and hard, and there was no fresh mozzarella to be found. Mint lemonade was ordered as an extra. Just your average lemonade, nothing special, with no hint of mint. We all agree that the highlight of the lunch experience was the dessert.
The food as always is incredible. As with most things you get what you pay for in here you get superbe service with some of the finest prepared food available. We haven't eaten here in a while and I wasn't sure what to think, but the Capital Grille did not disappoint in any way. I may have to say that even better than the food is the truly professional staff who make you feel right at home. We will be back many mire times. Get the Kona-crusted steak!
Honestly, the first time I went it was the most amazing meal my boyfriend and I had ever had. It was so good that when we went this second time, we ordered the exact same meal. Nothing tasted the same. The steak he got what okay and my chicken was super dry. Also, the appetizer that only comes with 5 shrimp to begin with came with 4. For how expensive and clearly inconsistent it is I'm not sure that I'll go back now.
Went for lunch to celebrate a colleague's promotion. We were surprised when they put us in a private dining room (group of 6) - great WOW! Food was excellent as always - calamari, tuna tartare, crab cakes as apps; swordfish with crabmeat for meal; variety of desserts. It's always just the best. Service was great. We never felt rushed. Lunch is a real value - same great food as dinner at half the price. We'll be back for sure.
We were in Kansas City for a brief shopping trip from Omaha and chose Capital Grille since this was, more or less, or New Year's Eve dinner, though only on 12/27. The food and service are not cheap, but, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. We even ran into one of my former students who lives in the KC area while we were dining. Capital Grille is one of those places that is not just going out to eat; it's a dining experience.
This was our choice of venues for the annual Family Christmas Dinner. Our party consisted of six adults and a 5 month old. We were a bit late being seated for our 6:00 PM reservation but we were never rushed during our dining event. One of the best things about our evening was the semi-private dining room we were able to share. This helped with the car seat as well as kept the noise level down for us. The service was great, explanations of the specials, entrees, side dishes, desserts, etc. were all top rate. Maybe a negative could be the value as it was high end on the cost meter, but I wasn't there to be cheap. A very fun evening at Capital Grille.
