The Capital Grille - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
Restaurant week in KC is always crazy, especially for the higher end restaurants that offer a good deal. We had a late reservation, but we were seated within 10 minutes of the reservation time. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent, especially for restaurant week.
Everything about the meal was wonderful, the bone in dry aged Kona ribeye is the best steak I’ve ever had. It was cooked to perfection and everything else was excellent as well. The waitress was outstanding and we will definitely be back and request Amber for our server.
We visited for my husband's birthday during restaurant week with friends. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. The steaks are always cooked to perfection. Capital Grille is always an especially good value during Restaurant Week. We enjoy the high quality food, service, and atmosphere.
I booked during restaurant week and it was our first time there we got sat quickly and greeted immediately. The whole experience was wonderful the food was delicious the service great. My husband loved it , it is our new favorite restaurant we can’t wait to go back . We haven’t had such great service or experience at a restaurant before.
A friend and I went for restaurant week at lunch time. We were celebrating her birthday. I did not call ahead and did not know, since we were there for restaurant week, if they would do anything. The waitress asked after we had our dessert with the special menu what we were celebrating. We told her and she since we had already had a small dessert she asked if she would like their birthday dessert to go. My friend we really excited and the waitress returned with some wonderful dessert for her all boxed up! The food was wonderful. She had the dry aged steak and I had the salmon. Wonderful flavor and just the right amount. Can't wait to go back!
Normally too rich for my blood, Capital Grille is an absolute STEAL during Kansas City Restaurant Week!! The dinner offerings include sides which normally are ala carte as are the wonderful desserts! Service was prompt and friendly even though they were slammed and the place was packed. Noise level was I'm sure much higher than normal. I had the 14oz KC Strip, medium and it was perfectly cooked and with the bone on, flavorful and tender. Mashed potatoes were thick and rich and if there was a downside, the green beans were pretty pedestrian but thats a small thing when you go for great steaks and everyone comes away completely satisfied and happy with the experience!!
We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation- which was set at 6:45- on a Wednesday night. We were not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time at 7:15. My group of four sat at the table waiting to get water. We finally got water at 7:45. We ordered drinks and waited quick a while for those. Next our waiter kept going to the tables around us but we had to wait to even order our food. The waiter did not come by to let us order until 8:30 PM. By the time we ordered and our food came out, the steaks were overcooked and dry. We ordered them medium and there was no warm pink center like they promised. Instead it was fully cooked, overdone, and dry. We ended up having to flag down our waiter to get our check. By the time we left we had been there for 3 hours.
We had an amazing time here celebrating my husband's birthday! Our reservation was incorrect, but the hostess got us in within 5 minutes despite the long line. The drinks were amazing and the steak we had was the best thing I have ever tasted. You won't be disappointed!
My first booking for restaurant week & everything started out great. Service was off to a great start & then it went south pretty quickly. As I watched other tables never having to wait & one waiter I watched in awe as he catered to his table. Meanwhile, our waiter was nowhere in sight as we waited for our food, waited even longer for bread. Then even more of a delay between entree & dessert. I haven’t been more disappointed!
Jackson was a very good server and took care of all of our needs despite the lunch rush. The food is so good. The calamari was just great and not the oily, tough calamari you get in so many places. The dessert here is to die for. Rich chocolate... no gluten!
My husband went here to celebrate KC Restaurant week and also to celebrate his birthday. The service and the food were exceptional. Our table was decked out with birthday confettis. He receives a lot of happy birthday wishes from all the staffs. We had a great time.
I eat at Cap Grille approximately 8 - 12 times a year and have always had delicious food and great service. I think due to restaurant week, our restaurant on the Plaza in Kansas City made some huge mistakes. One was booking. Our reservations were for 6:30pm on Tuesday. I had made them quite a while ago. and we had invited 2 other couples. We were not seated until 7:10. That is unacceptable. Why accept reservations if your wait time is 40 minutes? It was awkward and unprofessional. Secondly, they put us at a table that was packed in so tightly, we were not able to sit down and fit around the table. There was no room between our seats and the wall. We had to rearrange our seat locations literally so that we sat pushed together on the outside area (it was a round table pushed up against a corner) so we could fit. Of course I will go back because I think it is a great restaurant, but I sure am disappointed and was embarrassed at our experience this week. I would imagine the whole concept of Restaurant week is to make a good impression on new diners, so that perhaps they could become regulars. It would have been better to turn away more people without reservations and/or accept fewer reservations than to pack people in an get so far behind in your seating times that you make a bad impression.
We were dining for Restaurant Week. We were unable to make dinner reservations, so had a 2PM lunch reservation. Our server, Paul Hayward, made many fine recommendations including the option to order from the special dinner menu. This made our day, since we wanted to experience the dinner options. The food was outstanding, in fact perfect. The service (thank you, Paul) was beyond excellent. This is the place to DINE in Kansas City.
An overall good experience. We were there during restaurant week, so it was very busy. We had a drink at the bar before our meal. The bartenders were both great. I had the "Fire and Ice" and it was excellent. The meal was also great. Our sever was very personable and attentive. My wife's filet was cooked perfectly and the lobster mac and cheese is always awesome! The only complaint that I have about our experience is that my steak was over-cooked. I ordered a medium rare KC strip, but it was a medium to medium well cooked steak. Not a huge deal, but I was a little disappointed.
Went for restaurant week. The menu was outstanding and offered tremendous value. Had the wedge and the caesar, both delicious. We opted for the $10 upcharge entrees - our meal still cost less than just the price of the steak on the regular menu. Dessert was good. Service was fine, but not nearly up to the standards we expect from Capital Grille - they were extremely busy, but no more so than if we went on Sat night. Maybe they weren't staffed to the same level. Overall, this place is great and we'll be back.
