The Capital Grille - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
My first booking for restaurant week & everything started out great. Service was off to a great start & then it went south pretty quickly. As I watched other tables never having to wait & one waiter I watched in awe as he catered to his table. Meanwhile, our waiter was nowhere in sight as we waited for our food, waited even longer for bread. Then even more of a delay between entree & dessert. I haven’t been more disappointed!
My husband went here to celebrate KC Restaurant week and also to celebrate his birthday. The service and the food were exceptional. Our table was decked out with birthday confettis. He receives a lot of happy birthday wishes from all the staffs. We had a great time.
An overall good experience. We were there during restaurant week, so it was very busy. We had a drink at the bar before our meal. The bartenders were both great. I had the "Fire and Ice" and it was excellent. The meal was also great. Our sever was very personable and attentive. My wife's filet was cooked perfectly and the lobster mac and cheese is always awesome! The only complaint that I have about our experience is that my steak was over-cooked. I ordered a medium rare KC strip, but it was a medium to medium well cooked steak. Not a huge deal, but I was a little disappointed.
Went for restaurant week. The menu was outstanding and offered tremendous value. Had the wedge and the caesar, both delicious. We opted for the $10 upcharge entrees - our meal still cost less than just the price of the steak on the regular menu. Dessert was good. Service was fine, but not nearly up to the standards we expect from Capital Grille - they were extremely busy, but no more so than if we went on Sat night. Maybe they weren't staffed to the same level. Overall, this place is great and we'll be back.
Had a reservation that was made on Open Table for 01/15/18 5:45pm - upon arrival - I was told the reservation was for 01/22/18 - I was turned away - when I called to inform of the error - they said it wasnt their problem what my e-mail confirmation says - not very nice and obviously does not care of the business loss.
I messed up and thought our reservation was for January 15 and instead it was for January 22! No problem though as long as we were fine sitting in the bar. While I would have rather have had a regular table in the dining room, the server was very nice and said she would take good care of us in the bar. And she did! Service was excellent, food was beyond great and the atmosphere was fun. Great people watching. Delicious food! Wonderful food and service was superb. This is not someplace to go for casual dining, this is a place to go to celebrate.
Because it was Restaurant Week, the staff seemed frustrated to be working. I’m sure their tips aren’t as good this week, but I feel like that made that very evident. I’ve been on normal weeks and it’s been an incredible experience. This felt like any normal steakhouse...
Overall, I was rather disappointed with this particular visit. Every other time I've gone and it was wonderful. My husband had never been and after me telling him how absolutely amazing it is, I finally made us reservations during restaurant week. The lady that greeted us was rather rude. We got there a little early for our 4:30pm reservation. They had us wait in the bar, which was perfectly fine. Until we had waited for a total of 45 minutes, finally being seated at 5:15 pm, just a few minutes after my husband asking when we'd be seated (after watching several people walk in & be immediately seated). Keep in mind, 4:30 is their first seating. So we didn't have to wait for anyone to finish eating before being seated. This really wouldn't have been so bad if someone would have at least apologized instead of still being rude. The waitress did talk us into adding on lobster mac & cheese (in addition to the normal restaurant week menu) and then proceeded to forget to bring it to us. At least we were never charged for it either though. Overall dinner was good. Dessert was amazing. I would still go back based on my previous experiences there, but had this been the first time I'd been, I would definitely not be returning.
Service was great. The wait was longer than it should have been and the steaks were dry and not as tender as we hoped, although good flavor. It was VERY noisy the evening we went. Multiple large groups of drinkers who were difficult to have conversation over. The atmosphere is fun and unique. Many great drink choices.
Being new to KC, I had heard a lot about this restaurant and how great the steaks and service are. We ended up there on the first night of restaurant week. It was a zoo, but they quickly seated us at our reserved time.
The service, on the other hand, was terrible. We saw plenty of bus staff, but not a waiter for nearly 20 minutes. Couldn't get a drink, couldn't order an app, nothing. When the waiter did finally appear he acted like he was doing us a favor by taking time away from his busy schedule. He routinely made us feel like an imposition, not like a guest.
This is a steak house. I ordered a steak. I had to ask, and wait for, a steak knife. Really? Twice, the waiter reached directly over the top of me to serve or clear. Really? The steaks are well aged but not trimmed properly. As I got closer to the edge of my steak it had a rancid taste that really sort of ruined the rest of it. I had my friend taste it and she agreed.
The food was acceptable, but the service was really not acceptable for a place like this. No one ever asked us if we wanted a bottle of wine. We couldn't get a wine list. We were never asked if we wanted additional drinks, etc.
With so many great offerings in KC I doubt I would go back to this restaurant.
This was anot what we are use to at Capital Grille. This was for restaurant week. Service was good except they brought our food out before we were done with our soup and salad and stuck the main course plates on the corner were we had to basically hold them while trying to finish our salad/soup, just ridiculous for a upscale restaurant , felt rushed. Steak was full of gristle to the point that the 14oz bone in steak turned into a 4 oz and was not good, that was a shock, and they never asked us if our steaks were cooked correctly or if they were to our liking. The portion of sides were fixed like always and the green beans were very hard (uncooked like) and we usually love them. Probably won’t be back which is a shame. We brought our friends for their first time because we bragged about this place to them and they had the same experience as we did. We were kind of embarrassed.
Everything was fantastic as usual. One thing that was nice was we ordered off the restaurant week menu and the waiter served and treated us just like they do when ordering off the regular menu. This is a restaurant you can count on for the food, drink and service to be exceptional!
We have been here over four times. Each time we go it seems to be worse than the last. The service has gone down hill fast. The food was amazing, but now they can't even cook a steak right. We asked for medium rare and it came out medium almost medium well in some spots . The service went from classy to almost like a Applebee's. They had people bring water before constantly, we had to ask for refill on water. Food took way to long to come out. It was a overall negative experience .
During Restaurant Week, I chose to introduce my family to what I thought would be one of the top three choices among 148 restaurants participating. Was I ever mistaken! The first course, a cup of New England Clam Chowder, was reminiscent of a canned product, and served lukewarm. The Dry Aged Sirloin with Roasted Pepper, Fresh Mozzarella and Arugula Salad was a disappointment. Some of the meat was not edible...too tough to chew with copious waste. The side salad had a tasty dressing, but the ice cold whole pickled onions were stark and hard, and there was no fresh mozzarella to be found. Mint lemonade was ordered as an extra. Just your average lemonade, nothing special, with no hint of mint. We all agree that the highlight of the lunch experience was the dessert.
The food as always is incredible. As with most things you get what you pay for in here you get superbe service with some of the finest prepared food available. We haven't eaten here in a while and I wasn't sure what to think, but the Capital Grille did not disappoint in any way. I may have to say that even better than the food is the truly professional staff who make you feel right at home. We will be back many mire times. Get the Kona-crusted steak!
