The Capital Grille - Houston Ratings and Reviews
Excellent service, excellent wine list and excellent steaks as always at this restaurant in the Galleria/Tanglewood area of Houston. Never feel rushed here, and the wine list has some hidden gems that are hard to find elsewhere. Sommelier and server were both excellent.
I love a good steak and have lived in Houston for over 30 years, and this is the best place in town for steak in my opinion.
Highly recommend the Capital Grille, food and service never disappoint. We had the smoked salmon for an appetizer and it was INCREDIBLE!! My husband ordered the 16 ounce Canadian lobster and I enjoyed the swordfish. Both were amazing!! Even though it was New Years Eve, we didn’t feel like we were being rushed. Best meal we’ve had dining out in a long time.
Great 3rd anniversary dinner! We loved how they greeted us with a happy anniversary when we first walked in. Loved how the table had a personalized card with a rose and hearts spread out on the table. Was really surprised by oir anniversary desert and champagne. We truly felt the love. Our waiter Miguel Sanchez was awesome and we will ask for his service when we return.
We went to celebrate a good friends birthday. Our waiter Tony was AMAZING, however the food not so good. We had to send the birthday boys steak back due to it being extremely undercooked. In addition, the roasted chicken was so dry even the manager mentioned it. Considering the meal was the main reason we chose this location and to not be satisfied was disappointing.
Went for Thanksgiving dinner 2017. Food was great but the service was lacking. Waiter was not interested in giving us much service or attention when we did not order wine or cocktails. The reason we did not order wine or cocktails was that I just had heart surgery & was released from the hospital the day before Thanksgiving. No alcohol recommended as I was on new prescriptions. So, my family had a great deal to be thankful for on Thanksgiving, but the waiter didn't feel that we were worth the trouble. It was very disappointing as it was a very special occasion for my family. Wish the waiter had felt that way also!
We’ve only been to the Capital Grille in Denver. We stopped going there a few years ago because of a decline in food quality and service. We thought to give the Houston Galleria location a try for Thanksgiving and thought the Denver location was probably a fluke given the Capital Grille’s widespread success and high prices. But my husband and I both ordered steaks cooked medium. My filet was medium well and dry. My husband’s porterhouse was medium rare, at the most, to the point where he wouldn’t eat part of it. The fries, asparagus, and salad were all very mediocre. They were fine and we ate them, but it was a waste of ~$40. Additionally, the noise was rowdy, they sat us right next to the bathroom at a table where I couldn’t fit my purse next to me without squishing it, and the waiter was distant and not concerned with making the experience enjoyable. That said, it was Thanksgiving and I appreciate that I people were willing to work so I didn’t have to cook. We tipped over 25%. However, we’re not trying any Capital Grille again. There’s better options at this high of a price point.
I've been to locations in Austin, Dallas, and Fort Worth, and Capital Grille has always delivered a high level of service and ambience. This was not my experience at the Houston Galleria location. The atmosphere was very different from other locations and the service, although very well mannered, started to disappear towards the latter part of my evening. My drink was completely empty for quite some time twice and at one point I had to get up myself to pour my date more water. Also, the booth seating was uncomfortable. I did tip 30% out of sympathy and would not recommend this location to friends. It's difficult to understand why this restaurant is a part of the Capital Grille family. This was my first and last trip to the Galleria location.
The food and service were impeccable. The waiter even took a nice picture which was printed out for all of us as a memento. Dessert was on the house with a nice "Happy Birthday" on the plate (it was my wife's birthday). The garlic shrimp appetizer are delicious. Steaks were great. Does not disappoint for a place of this caliber.
This is the 2nd time I've been to the Capital Grill with the first being at Town and Country. The service was so bad then I was given $200 in Gift Certificates.
The food was better this 2nd time at the Galleria Capital Grill, but the service was torturously slow. This was a Sunday night. Restaurant about 20% full. My party was 3 people. We went strait to the main dish, no appetizers. And it took 2 hours and 20 minutes for just the main dish and desert.
Manager nowhere to be seen until we were done and it was too late to do anything about the poor pace of service. I'd complain and ask for more Gift Certificates, but I will never go back to either Capital Grill again, even if it's free.
We made our reservations with out thinking about the October birthday next week. Capitol Grille called the day before to confirm our reservations and asked about any special occasion and I snapped to the birthday coming up. We were a party of 4 and they sat us in a cozy booth.
We shared the butternut squash soup, lobster & crab cakes and the shaved brussel sprout salad.
The soup was velvety in texture with just a hint of curry. Fantastic! The lobster and crab cakes had large chunks of lobster and came two per order. Good thing we had ordered two orders because they were a hit with all of us. Mildly seasoned with the tartar sauce on the side they
were very good. The brussel sprout salad was so good. Loaded with pecans and smoked bacon chucks and a small dollop of goat cheese the vinaigrette made this salad outstanding. The boys had the porcini rubbed bone-in rib eye. The flavor of the rub was fantastic with just a tad of cayenne and balsamic. I had the 10 oz. filet au poivre and it was fantastic, perfectly cooked with the pepper corns and a touch of cognac cream sauce. The other dish was pan-seared scallops with wild mushroom risotto. No complaints here , the scallops were huge and the risotto spot on. The staff gave the birthday boy a nice card and served us champagne for a toast. Fabulous evening!
As usual, the Capital Grille was a wonderful dining experience. The food was exceptional and the service was outstanding. Our waiter was very attentive; ensuring we always had what we needed. We were celebrating the purchase of a first home for one of the diners and they made the experience remeberable.
