The Capital Grille - Denver Ratings and Reviews
Altho everything was delicious, the servings were simply humongous for us to finish. The recommended wine was perfect for the meal. Without requesting for it, we were seated in one of the smaller rooms and we were able to have a conversation without raising our voices. We simply enjoyed the sumptuous feast in an elegant setting with great service that was never harried. This is one place I can show off to out-of-town guests.
First time and definitely won't be our last. We were impresses with the menu selection and the service. We had filet mignonette in a red wine reduction that was to die for. The tenderloin was tender and melted in our mouth. The reduction was magnificent. It tasted like a smooth red wine with a hint of beef which complimented the tenderloin perfectly.
For chocolate lovers the flourless chocolate cake is a must. It is decadently full of chocolate with the perfect blend of coffee. This dessert literally melted in our mouth. Another must try is the hazelnut chocolate cake, terrific!!
The reason the ambiance and noise level were rated the best is because we were very fortunate and were put into a private room since there were 6 of us. Therefore, with the doors closed it was quiet. However, when doors were opened, we could hear Lots of noise in rest of restaurant. And the ambiance would not have been so good, as tables are close together.
1st time there, I have been looking forward to it for years. And to be honest, it wasn't nearly as good as I had expected. I went to Del Frisco's last week and there is no comparison in my opinion. I ordered the filey medium-rare and it was charred on the outside and beyond rare in the middle. The staff seemed less than thrilled to be serving the lower classes during 5280 and the food was mediocre. Glad it was only $26 per person and not $100.
Capital Grille is renown for its steaks - and justly so! This restaurant can be very noisy depending on where you sit - if you are in one of the small dining rooms, it is marvelously quiet and intimate..the main dining room is very noisy. The wine menu is outstanding, and the service is impeccable!!! We will be back!!!
We went for rest. week...we've never been here before but we WILL be back. They are doing it right...give people a great meal and they will come back and pay full price. I had the bone-in sirlion and it was hands down the best steak I've ever had! Cooked perfectly (med-rare+)and the sides were wonderful! The service was great! Found a good bottle of wine for $29. Claim chowder was delicious as was the expresso cake!
Wonderful food & attentive service. Be sure to try the crab & lobster cakes and the dry-aged bone-in steak. Rene was our server and was awesome. We missed this one last Restaurant Week and have waited another year to try it. It's going to become our go-to special occasion/celebration restaurant.
We ate here during restaurant week. Normally I think Capitol grill serves the same food restaurant week but this year I was very disappointed. I got the aged kona crusted steak and had to spit out three pieces that had so much connective tissue that they were inedible. The mashed potatoes had a good flavor but were had a glue like texture. The wait service seated us brought our apps and entree. Then disappeared for twenty minutes everyone. I will not eat here again.
Capital Grille is always solid. My lower rating is probably 100% attributable to it being restaurant week. The whole place felt chaotic. Although very efficient, the service seemed cold. No real sense of feeling like the wait staff really cared if we were enjoying the meal or not, just got a sense of churn and burn. Again, I am sure this was due to it being a Saturday night during restaurant week, but still would have liked to have felt just a little bit of concern over whether we enjoyed the meal or not.
We had never had a bad meal at Capital Grille, but the evening we went the food was simply not as good as usual-it was very very salty. My daughter and husband mentioned the same thing after we left. I don't complain during RW because of the lower prices and increased crowds, but I was disappointed. Another issue that I'm finding too often-either rounding off amounts (not in my favor) when paying with cash or not bringing change at all. I gave the waiter 3 $50 bills expecting change (the other two groups paid with credit cards). I never got change and the waiter left too quickly after leaving the credit slips and never came back. So, on our bill of about $110 we "left" $40-a bit steep even for good service. I'm going back to credit cards.
Certainly very good food- I would just make the chocolate dessert somewhat less heavy-it was a real calorie bomb. Waiting times were extreme during the restaurant week. Well, the compensation with a deliciouis lobster bisque helped. The table was in a bad spot, where waiters were rushing up and down. The whole place was noisy and overcrowded with people waiting and standing in the ailes.
Amazing. Had a very early reservation, as it was the only time slot available to take advantage of the 5280 Restaurant Week menu. Sarah J was our server and was outstanding. The salmon, filet and bone-in sirloin was to die for. Great service; checked on by management, etc. - took our 17yr old and our 9 yr old, both were made to feel welcome and everyone in our family had a tremendous meal. We can't wait to return next time our travels take us to downtown Denver.
Our reservation was a 9:30pm, and they had told us they were 10-15 minutes behind. After waiting 45 minutes after our reservation time we finally got seated. The waiting area was entirely too small for the amount of people that were waiting to be seated. I don't know if it was just becuase it was Restaurant week, but there was about 30 people waiting to be seated at one time. It almost looked like they overbooked the restaurant.
The entree, had some issues. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon Medium well, and it came under cooked at medium rare. I ordered my top sirloin on the bone medium, and it came overcooked at medium well. The manager took care of it for us right away, and the rest of our experience went very well.
The food was amazing --I had the filet which was cooked perfectly, the creamed spinach was unbelievable, I made my husband try it and he went in for seconds. The service was very good and it should be at that price point. My husband and I will be going back again!
