The Capital Grille - Denver Ratings and Reviews
We were very unhappy with the overall experience due to the unprofessional service, especially considering we drove 40 plus minutes from Boulder. The food was good, but definitely not worth the high prices. We've had much better experiences at several other restuarants in Larimer Square.
We had the best New Years Eve dinner. It could not have been any better. The service was fantastic and the food over the top good. Of special mention the tartar, lamb chops, lobster bisque wedge salad and shrimp were amazing. Worth every bite. Great Table location for 8 and we could still converse with both ends of the table.
Our friends who were not red meat eaters loved the calamary and salmon and enjoyed the crab cakes as starters and the crab legs on the side. Great fresh bread.
Then there were the great cocktails and wine selection and the wonderful after dinner drinks.
This was not our first time to capitol grill and it will not be our last
The food (Kona crusted anything) and service never disappoint. Impeccable. Servers will do whatever you want as far as a dish. Great for an occasion. My only complaint is I think the wines are a bit overpriced compared to the mark ups at other restaurants. I just can’t pay the mark up they have, so unfortunately, we don’t have wine with our meal
Overall the food and service were subpar. We had a reservation later in the evening (8:45pm) so there were plenty of tables available upon seating, however, we were seated at an awkwardly placed table right near the entrance in a high-traffic area of the restaurant. In regards to the food, it was decent, but nowhere near the quality to be expected for the price paid. For that value, I'd recommend several other places in town; EDGE, Guard & Grace, Ocean Prime, etc...Unfortunately, will not be returning.
Table was available on time despite the restaurant bring full during christmas week, a pleasant surprise. Very professional staff and comfortable dining room. Food was of hood but not great quality. Heavily spiced tuna tartare fresh but underwhelming. New york strip was ordered medium rare came out barely rare and a tad tough. Still with the attentive service, evening was enjoyable.
Christmas Eve our family tradition is to see a holiday play at the Denver Performing Arts Center. Afterwards we dine at the Capital Grill and for the past 6 years we have asked for John to be our waiter. He's personable, attentive, and remembers the family-has even greeted us as we come in. The atmosphere is festive and the food is never disappointing. The calamari starter, filet and coconut cream pie (the best) is an incredible dinner. Be sure to ask for John.
Everything about Capital Grille was perfect. You pay a lot and afterwards feel it was worth every penny. That is rare in a restaurant. The service was excellent from the start, including the coat check and the person who kept our table clean. The waiter was friendly and helped us choose our meals in a way that was not pushy like so many other places. The food, and especially the dessert, was fabulous.
Our group enjoyed a wonderful dinner while celebrating a birthday. The restaurant staff was very attentive and the overall service was very good. The "birthday" table setting, personal card, and special dessert added to the occasion. We were seated in a room that offered a little more intimate setting for our meal. We certainly recommend the Capital Grille for dining.
Very disappointed, our waiter never offered us bread, acted like we knew nothing about wine and rushed us out. Don’t need to spend the money anymore at this place. There are other fine restaurants in Denver that will allow us to spend money and enjoy our food.
We love to dine at the Capital Grille before or after theater events. Saturday, we had tickets to the Nutcracker at 6:30 PM, so we had an EARLY dinner at the Capital Grille. It was wonderful. My 10 oz filet was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the potatoes and brussel sprouts were divine. It was so good, we are going back after the performance of the King and I on January 4th, even though we thought we'd be dining elsewhere. This is the best restaurant in Denver for consistently excellent food and service.
Overall, our experience was nice. We were celebrating and although it was acknowledged by the gentleman who sat us, our waiter made no comment. The food was great but the service lacked. Honestly, I think it was just our server. He seemed completely overwhelmed and not personable. Took 20 minutes to get a glass of wine and when our food came we had no steak knives for a few minutes until he found the time to bring them over. Like I said, all in all it was a good experience but for the money I expected better service. *we spent over $800 between dinner and buying gift cards, so yes, I expected superb service.
The food was excellent, however the service we received was not. I have been to this location a handful of times, and had never had a bad experience before (quite the opposite) and so my experience this last time was very disappointing and left a lot to be desired. Waiting 25 minutes before our server even greeted us....45 minutes before we were even able to order a bottle of wine. We were there for 2 hours before we received our dinner. Alex, who was the gentleman apologetically refilling our drinks for the 3 hours we were there was the only person who paid any attention to our table. There were several large parties going on this evening and it was very obvious our little 4-top was NOT a priority. Very disappointing. As I said before, my experience with Capital Grille has always been great previously, but after this experience I doubt I will ever go back. It's just too expensive and there are too many other great restaurants in Denver, to ever risk receiving service as poor as this again.
