The Capital Grille - Chicago - Downtown Ratings and Reviews
As usual, The Capital Grille serves up great food with outstanding service. We have been to this location many times and we are never disappointed. The bone-in filet was cooked perfectly to my request, the lobster mac n' cheese is always a decadent delight, and the experience was memorable.
After a long day of walking around in the cold rain, stopping in before dinner for a drink was just the elixir I needed to shake off a chill. The bartender was funny and personable, and the wine list provided ample selection. The wait staff was their normal, attentive selves, living up to The Capital Grille standards. They somehow know how to be attentive to the diner's needs without being intrusive or bothersome; they are there when you need them and somehow they disappear when you are in the midst of a vigorous conversation at the table. This is where The Capital Grille wait-staff really stands out; they actually pay attention to the customers and "read" the table.
The food was, as usual, excellent, the server also was amenable. I was quite disappointed when I asked for a booth for three. They said noting was available except the booth they led me to near the very back and large enough for 6 people. I stayed I was unhappy and after a while, surprise! There happened to find 2 booths available for my party of three. I have eaten here before and have never been stuck in an overly large and somewhat hidden area. I am considering spending more time at Ruths Chris. I hope your other guests get tested a lot better my party of 3.
My wife and i frequently travel to Houston and enjoy dining at The Capital Grille at Town & Country. I took a recent trip to Chicago with 3 other business associates and wanted to treat them to a five star dinner so I chose The Capital Grille in Chicago. As is the case in Houston, the service, ambiance, and food was beyond stellar. I encouraged the guys to order the bone in filet and it was truly the best steak ever! They all agreed that was by far the best steak they have ever had. Being a creature of habit its good to know that an organization like yours can provide the same quality of food, service, and ambiance from one restaurant to the next.
We had steaks, mozzarella and tomato salad and au gratin potatoes. It may have been one of the best meals I have ever had! We were seated in a small dining area that was very quiet and intimate. Our waiter, Rich, was absolutely the best! We had cheesecake and flourless chocolate expresso cake for dessert, which was out of this world delicious. Will definitely be back and recommend to others.
I live downtown.. I have never had a less than perfect experience at this restaurant ( roughly 15 visits over last 4 years) . The steaks are exactly as ordered . Seafood is excellent . The lobster bisque has a huge amount of tender lobster in it . Desserts are amazing . Coconut cream pie is fantastic . But homemade ice cream or sorbet or key lime pie very good as well. When you just want a “sure thing “ this is the place to go .
We noted on our reservation that it was for a special occasion. We were given a private dining room and introduced to the chef. The service was exemplary. Several diners had the bone-in filet which was exceptional. The food, staff and atmosphere combined to make a memorable evening.
In town for a convention and decided we needed a "steak night"
Very pleased with all aspects of our dining experience: food, service, ambience.
Started with Onion soup. Very good...toast held a nice crunch throughout. Just the right amount of cheese. Also had a Shrimp Cocktail...very large and succulent shrimp.
I had the Porterhouse, medium...it was done perfectly. My friends ordered Filets...medium well. One of them felt it was a little dry, the other was fine. They brought another steak, all good.
Sides were good. Au Gratin Potatoes. Mashed potatoes. Beans.
No room for dessert.
Our server was fantastic and very helpful in getting off-menu items for our boys (3 and 10) who enjoyed beautiful little 4oz filet mignon (for $13), plain beans, and mashed potatoes. They did a very nice dessert for the 10-year-olds birthday.
