The Capital Grille - Chicago - Downtown Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary here! The food was delicious and the lobster bisque soup lived up to its reputation. They acknowledge our celebration with a card and heart on our table. All members of staff who interacted with us congratulated us. Made our day even more special. Recommended for romance with your love.
My husband's birthday was over the weekend. We're so happy we chose Capital Grille. We always have a good meal there. Starting with a Stoli Doley in the bar (delicious pineapple soaked vodka martini) we then moved to our table. What a nice surprise to see confetti & a card from the staff! A complimentary champagne toast while we made our menu choices. Great service from Rich, our waiter for our spicy calamari, shrimp cocktail, steaks, mashed, creamed spinach. Every bite was delicious! Then a surprise dessert with candle! So many nice touches to make for a special night.
My wife and I came here for my birthday. The food was incredible, which is what you’d expect from a Capital Grille. But what most stood out was the absolutely friendly, warm, and excellent service - from Julia behind the bar to Diego our waiter. They were both so personable and friendly and made our evening that much more enjoyable. And the Capital Grille even made a nice little celebration out of my birthday with some table decorations and special note and desert from the chef. They didn’t draw obnoxious attention to it, either - it was just the right amount. People make all the difference in a business, and birthday or not, it was easy to see that the people who took care of us genuinely know what it means to provide excellent and welcoming service. Top notch.
The maitre d was awful. When we walked i they said the wait was 1.5 to 2 hours. Checked on open table and there were tables every 15 minutes all night. Made the reservation and asked why this could have happened... they said “oh “open table” puts you in the overflow room... it’s not as nice...” they were wrong the founders room or whatever they called it, was romantic, warm and quiet.
Aaron, our server was great.
I will not go back and do not recommend because of the front staff. Go to Chicago Cut instead. Better value and better steaks.
The was a return trip to THE GRILL.
We selected from the National Restaurant Week menu.
The seat adjacent to the bar provide a wonderful view to east, west, south, and east. It was look being in the four corners.
The staff leaning on the wall making the picture frame crooked and using the wall to check on table was light entertainment .
The wedge salad ,tomatoes , with bacon, and top with chunky blue cheese dressing was very good. We as that the keep the bacon and place ranch dressing on Roc on the side. We both required additional dressing .
The main course was salmon seared and finished in oven at very high temperature. The mash potatoes were the equal last weeks meal . The string beans were tasty.
The crème brûlée with various berries was to small for serving and you needed another course, you wanted more.
One steak was was undercooked and not medium as requested and greatly explained in detailed. It was taken back and appeared to be just warmed up in a microwave losing all of its flavor. We were assured that this was due to a hear lamp to keep food warm. The waitress was trying to help us and sent the manager over who was arrogant and let us know it was our fault. He literally ruined our evening with his pastering... our waitress couldn't have been nicer but we will not return due to the attitude of the manager.
Dining regulars came this time for Restaurant Week. We had a 6:30 reservation and were seated at 6:55. Because of the delay, we were given a plate of inedibly spicy calamari!
Once ordered, our respective meat dishes were both too rare and had to be sent back. From there we were rushed through our meal. As we were finishing eating, the dining room had emptied considerably so releasing our table should not have been a consideration. Even our water refills (we did order wine and cocktail too) had to be begged for.....
And, our waitress was trying to sell the two entrees carrying an extra charge; we had not asked for suggestions!
I live in the neighborhood, but with so many other dinner options, I will be hard-pressed to go back to Capital Grille.
My husband and I celebrated our 5year anniversary. When we arrived there was heart confetti spread on the table and there was a card that said Happy Anniversary. I thought that was a nice touch. Our waiter was very patient and attentive. They placed a basket of different bread assortment and I swear it was the best bread I ever tasted lol. We both had steak which was seasoned well and green beans which I feel should’ve had a different seasoning but overall great experience and we would patronize them again
My boyfriend and I come here every year for our anniversary and they always make it extra special. We requested our usual waiter, Diego, but had a new waiter, Wade, who was just as amazing as Diego! We had the restaurant week menu and both ordered the steak with shrimp on top. The shrimp was very dry, so we were disappointed we spent the extra money for that dish, but the steak, mashed potatoes, chowder and salad were all very delicious. We also got an anniversary dessert tray with cake and creme brulee, which was amazing. Overall the night was made thanks you the Capital Grille, and we will definitely be back next year!
I only have had very positive experiences at The Capital Grille. I love the atmosphere. The food is always prepared to perfection. We could not have asked for better service even though it was an extremely busy “restaurant week” Saturday evening it never disappoints!
We had a wonderful dinner at Capital Grille on a Saturday during Restaurant Week. The menu choices were outstanding; the value was amazing at $33; and the meal was the best we have had at this very fine restaurant. The staff did a great job despite the packed house.
I always love capital grille. Great food and great service. The only negative this time was that we were seated in this odd table by the bar where one chair stuck out by the bar and there was a lot of foot traffic going back and forth. For the price of the food there, one would think the seating would be better with that. The table would have been more appropriate for a group of 2-3 so that no one had to sit sticking out.
First time visitors that happened to also be during Restaurant Week dinner. Went with my husband and 10 year old daughter. Cannot say enough about the great price for such a superb dinner, wonderful atmosphere, friendly service. We will definitely be returning for the phenomenal steaks! Even my daughter talked about the delicious meal.
Restaurant Week specials made a typically serene dining experience bustling and a bit haphazard. Our table was in the furthermost dining alcove, which was overcrowded to the point of chairs being passed precariously over our heads (literally) as a table for 10 was being set up to the back of the already full room.
Service slipped from the expected high standards, mostly due to the volume of diners and a large private party.
But the filet mignon and mashed potatoes redeemed all of the snafus and delays we incurred. Give this girl creme brûlée for dessert, and she’ll leave anywhere happy.
We’ll be back, one crazy experience won’t keep us away.
