The Capital Grille - Chicago - Downtown Ratings and Reviews
I celebrated my birthday here on a Sunday evening. I’ve been to a number of steak houses but Capital Grill now holds a special place in my heart for my bday celebrations. From the warm reception at the host stand all the way to complimentary surprises from the chef, the staff treated me and my boyfriend like royalty. Our server Diego was especially attentive and genuinely mirrored my excitement for my special occasion.
If you let your host know you’re celebrating a special occasion they will hook you up with a wonderful table overlooking the entire dining room, a bday card and (tasteful) confetti waiting for you at your table AND even a professional grade photo to commemorate your evening.
The ambiance isn’t trendy or crowded. However the food and service are top notch and I look forward to our next dinner!
The food and service was great. However, even with a reservation and they put us in a small back room with 4-5 other tables. There was no atmosphere and everyone could hear each other's conversations. We should have asked for another table when we were seated, but did not.
Food was exceptional, twin lobster tails cooked perfectly and a steak with extra char and spot on rareness. While the restaurant was full, noise level allowed for a very comfortable level of conversation. Reservations made ahead and seating was immediate upon arrival. A very enjoyable evening.
Overall, the experience was fine. We decided to have New Year’s Eve dinner here and the only reservation was 445pm, which I expected.
However, the restaurant remained relatively empty until about 545pm to 6pm so maybe a lot of cancellations? Who knows.
We were seated next to the kitchen which was loud and took away from the ambiance and romance of the restaurant, which again, was relatively nice.
We decided on the French Onion soup which was great and the dry aged NY strip with peppercorn. All I can say is WOW did they put a lot of peppercorn on that steak and totally wrecked it.
We asked for the steak to be prepared “medium” and it came out bloody. If I’m spending $50+ on a steak it needs to perfect and this was far from it.
We could’ve simply returned it and I’m sure they would have accommodated us but we didn’t feel like sending the food back.
In any event, the lobster Mac and Cheese was amazing but I will be selecting a different establishment for my next steak craving
Staff were very curteous and obliging. We were late and because I called they held our table. Staff ran about like busy bees providing water and bread refills constantly.
Food was appetizing and perfectly presented on plates. Needed no extra salt. Reservation process was easy with great directions to restaurant. Got a reminder call the morning before our reservation. Highly recommend the lamb chops, you will feel full.
Fiancé and I had a unforgettable dining experience at the Capital Grille while celebrating our engagement . Excellent service !! We were treated to a couple glasses of presecco for our special occasion . I cannot remember having better service anywhere . The food was fantastic ! Shrimp cocktail,Lobster bisque, lobster Mac and cheese, and bone in ribeye were just unbelievable. This is a must do on your Chicago bucket list !!
We had a wonderful meal, and they made our anniversary very, very special. We enjoyed specialty cocktails, lingered over dinner and were then treated to a special complementary dessert. Our waitress went out of her way to make the evening memorable, and she really did do that. You expect outstanding food at one of the top restaurant chains in the country, and they did not disappoint.
We had a very unpleasant experience. Checked in, waited for 30 min ( which is fine, they are busy). Asked about our table - manager rolled his eye ( literally) and told us that we have only been there for 5 min. Food was good, onion soup is exceptional. When check came it had a change for bohemian salad , which we never ordered. The funniest thing - there is no such item on the menu!!! It's totally a bogus charge which you easily overlook after few drinks. Unbelievable, I am sure it was on purpose- waiter was not even surprised.
The ambiance, atmosphere, food, and service were exquisite! Connie was our server and she only enhanced the eating experience with her kindness and friendliness! This particular Capital Grille provides such a unique, welcoming experience compared to other locations I’ve been to throughout the country. My friend and I will definitely return.
The service was excellent and embraced our celebration with enthusiasm. The table looked so festive!!! Would recommend for a special birthday/anniversary/good-bye lunch. Also, I have hosted business dinners there and the service was impeccable. The food is always delicious and presented to perfection. However, I miss the liver entrée! The hostesses are always pleasant and greet us warmly.
This was the 16th steakhouse we have visited in Chicago on our self-proclaimed steakventure. And it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was nice, the service great, and food was delicious. It was the first 5 stars my husband has given a steak. We both had the bone-in ribeye. They were cooked perfectly and seasoned well, every bite was enjoyable. Our cocktails, wine, and scotch all good. Salads were great and the lobster mac and cheese, rich and delicious. The smaller touches of little birthday decorations, card, champagne toast, and complimentary dessert were all just cherries on top of a wonderful evening. Thank you!
Atmosphere was lovely. Waiter 's folksy, jiving demeanor seemed out of place when he first came to our table. He must have seen the shock on our faces, because he toned it down after that.
I ordered sliced filet mignon medium rare, and it came to the table completely raw in the middle and cooked around the edges. So it had to go back.
