The Capital Grille - Chestnut Hill Ratings and Reviews
This is the second consecutive year that we celebrate my husband's birthday at Capital Grill with our family. We have now decided to make this a family tradition as everyone loves the food and ambiance there. Our family has been in the fresh food/culinary business for years and we appreciate Capital Grill's excellent quality and refinement.
I have been dining at the Capitol Grille now for many years mostly on special occasions. We made reservations, arrived early, and then waited a full hour to be seated. Granted it was Restaurant week that day, but the planning on the tables left much to be desired. This is not normally the case at the Grille were service is super special. Our waiter brought the wrong bottle of wine which was double the price of what I had ordered, but later agreed to charge only the original price. It was a confusion as to the vineyard that led to his mistake. The rest of the meal was okay, but I want to emphasize that this experience was not common at Capitol Grille, and I will return since I have been a patron for over 15 years.
I enjoyed the food and our waiter was wonderful. The only problem is we felt there was a special section for customers they assumed were there for resturant week. There were many emptied tables but we had to wait over 15 minutes until one was ready in the back wall of the dining room. Our reservation was for 6:45 pm. We arrive 10 minutes early and waited until 7:00 pm for a table. The food was wonderful. I would not recommend ordering the martinins. Stick with the wine.
We went for restaurant week. The food was good, generous with the portions and the server was very patient with us. We normally wouldn't go here and I gotta say for the price and the food quality, it is borderline for us. It is your typical steak house nothing special for the extra $$$$ except for the service and the bread in the beginning. Overall the service was great and the food was good and the price is too high.
Normally the food is SUPERB, along with the service. Tonight the food was mediocre (vegetables overcooked, steak covered in a glob of butter (I miss the plain tenderloin that is usually on their restaurant week menu), and it was so noisy we couldn't hear each other, even when we were talking loud. Not my idea of a gourmet meal!! I love this place and was very disappointed tonight.
I came here for Restaurant Week, so the place was hopping, and yet our server was attentive and very friendly, not to mention knowledgeable. Great service!
I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars for the food. The Kona-crusted steak was delicious, flavorful and perfectly cooked. The flourless chocolate cake was great, too. The salad wasn't as good as the last time I'd had it, though still quite edible--the leaves weren't completely dried after washing (a bit watery), and were romaine and iceberg, not what I was thinking of when I saw "field greens" on the menu.
Still, the service and the steak are the enduring memories. Recommended!
I only get to this restautaurant during Restaurant Week and don't know how they do such a good job. My steak was excellent.
My only complaint and I did not do it there was I was not thrilled by our server. He made us feel like he was doing us a favor by waiting on us.....
My steak (bone-in Kona crusted dry aged sirloin) and dessert (Flourless Chocolate Espresso cake) were amazing! My steak was cooked perfectly! And the cake memorable.
My salad (field greens, seasonal vegetables w/shallot champagne vinaigrette) was bland and disappointing. The salad was described as field greens when in reality it was roman lettuce. I Had to add plenty of salt and pepper just to have a flavor.
Service was perfect.
Our waiter Sean went over and above board to please us. He represented Capital Grille very well. We were disappointed that our favorite potatoes were not on the menu, and he got the chef to make them. Food was terrific............and with a waiter who was terrific it made for a nice evening. Only downside was the 90 minute drive home.
Wish there was a Capital Grille closer to Hartford CT.
My first but certainly not last visit for a most enjoyable dining experience.
The staff were clearly engaged from the time we entered and were warmly greeted.
Our server Sean was outstanding - he clearly enjoys what he does.
I kept looking for "the catch" but there was none - this venue excels in each domain.
If pushed to identify a detractor it would be the noise level but all things considered,
it was a relatively small annoyance to endure.
First I had the tomato mozzarella salad. It was good but not outstanding. I then had the delmonica steak and it was cooked to perfection and exactly as the waitress described it - flavorful and tender. I had onion rings with the steak and they were great - not sure why they are no longer on the menu. My friend had a baked potato with
her sirloin steak and all was good. The restaurant lost the goodie bag with the leftover steak and gave us an entire steak to take home which I thought was just terrific and so nice. We had a choc. cake for dessert to split. I didn't like it at all. I didn't like the sauce at the bottom and I thought the cake was dry. My friend however enjoyed the steak. We will be back.
We were celebrating my daughter's 13th birthday. The table had birthday confetti and a card for her signed by the chef and all the staff. A delicious piece of cake came later with a candle. The food and service were impeccable. Best steak I have ever had and my vegetarian wife had pleny of choices as well. Can't say enough about the waiter and those supporting him. This is a place that has it all figured out. We will be back to our new favorite restaurant for the next family birthday next month.
