The Capital Grille - Chestnut Hill Ratings and Reviews
Great suburban location, (NO $20+ valet parking charge), "clubby" steakhouse atmosphere.
Professional wait staff. Great wine promo $28 for unlimited tasting flights .BUT just tooooo expensive! Steaks $45+ a la carte (NY Strip quality was not at level of similar NYC venues. Swordfish $45 for a relatively small very thin slightly overcooked serving. Best bread tray anywhere.
I always go to the capital grille in boston and enjoy it very much. I decided to go to chestnut hill for a special business appreciation lunch. The device was slow even though the restaurant was empty. It took the hostess 10 minutes to get us to our table. I ordered the bone in ribeye which was cold and so were the green beans. I requested a cake for dessert and the server just gave us dessert menus with no mention of the request. All in all a total disaster- will never go back to this location.
first of all it was an amazing meal - every course, crab cocktail, salads, and entrees. The idea of: "GENEROUS POUR" is a brilliant marketing idea. so fun and a great opportunity to try many different wines for a small price of $28.00 per person and you can have as much or as little as you would like. Was a really fun night with Amy our server - who treated us so well and made a Sunday evening a lot of fun. and dessert for my husband - the birthday man - very generous.
food was predictably good, but the ambiance suffered from a packed dining experience. My NY strip was delicious, but has shrunken in size over the years (while the price remains hefty). Next time here won't be on a Saturday wine-tasting evening, but still the best steak house in town.
The steaks at Capital Grille are legendary and their reputation is well-earned. You will pay for these great steaks, but if you like steak, you can't go wrong with Capital Grille. Our side of asparagus and mashed potatoes were very flavorful and the potatoes were very buttery and creamy. Not for the diet-conscious. Our server was wonderful and very attentive. There are lots of people who work here and your water glass will not go unfilled for long. The salmon was an excellent choice for someone in the mood for something else. The portion was large but it was moist and perfectly cooked. Worth noting is the outstanding Capital Grille bread basket, filled with an assortment of wonderful, fresh breads. Few restaurants put effort into a bread basket nowadays, and this one was outstanding.
We go for all anniversaries and birthdays- this visit our waiter was great but not at all as good as we are accustomed to. Not his fault at all- he ended up having 6 tables seated within minutes of each other. No possible way for him to be as attentive as expected at the Capital Grill
We were celebrating my two nephews' baseball accomplishments and the table was decorated with baseball themed candy, confetti and stickers to make the occasion that much more special! Nice touch... I was very pleased with the waiter as well...very professional and a lovely man!
So you get to the capital grille on.a busy Friday night and wow your table is ready and waiting..the wine order is taken .and promptly delivered...after an appropriate time..sean the server recited the specials...after so.many years he is as enthusiastic as ever..we had the special salad..bone in rib eye and crabcakes.
Everything done to perfection..thanks to GM Jeff who walks around making sure all.is well...and it was...another **..six star experience.
Ps happy anniversary to.barbara the charming hostess on her 39 wedding anniversary....why go anywhere else for a great fun time...
Really awful experience -- so disappointing. The restaurant was noisy. We were seated in a booth near a large party and next to the kitchen. Other seating areas didn't seem any quieter. The cocktail menu was on an iPad -- maybe that was supposed to appeal to techie business types, and I'm all for technology, but it seemed contrived and silly. Speaking of which, my margarita wasn't very good (and not a generous pour).
The waiter was pleasant but not terribly attentive. My husband and I both ordered the salmon -- dry, uncreative preparation, and definitely farmed (not wild) salmon. Overpriced for what it was. Our side of brussels sprouts was okay, but nothing special.
We didn't stay for dessert -- couldn't wait to get out of there. We hadn't been to the Capital Grille for a number of years and mistakenly thought it would be a good place to celebrate our anniversary. Wrong. With so many wonderful options in the Boston area, we'll never go back.
Came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We were seated but had to wait 20-30 minutes for a server to even noticed that we weren't waited on yet. Tried to get at least one server's attention but they seemed to focused about every other table. A busser stopped setting up her tables to come give us bread and water.
Service wasn't great. But the food is amazing! Won't be coming back to the Chestnut Hill location, maybe I'll try out Newbury next visit.
If you're going to head to the Capital Grille, it's a much better experience at the one in Back Bay. Our server was over stretched on tables (which he admitted to us) the steak wasn't close to the quality and the overall ambiance is a million times better. The prices are the same so invest in the extra drive time and make it a memorable experience.
My husband is not a meat and potato type guy, so it took years to convince him to go to The Capital Grille. I finally was able to convince him by telling him I would go without him, and that they had great fish as well, so he tagged along. Well, he loved his first experience. Now we go back each year, and I can get my-oh-so-delicious rib eye, and he gets the salmon. While we love the food, we also love the service as it's attentive without being hovering. For special occasions, there is always a special touch or three- rose petals and hearts, special printed menus, a complimentary dessert, and this week, a complimentary toast of champagne as well.
I should also add that the cocktails and the wine list by the glass are excellent, and the free valet service on a pouring night was much appreciated.
This really is our special occasion place; it may not be inexpensive, but I am so happy to indulge!
