I made a reservation at the The Capital: American Eatery & Lounge a week in advance. Upon turning up at the restaurant at the appropriate time, we were rather surprised when the restaurant was closed for the night.
The restaurant shouldn't take reservations through OpenTable if they are going to treat customers in such a sub-standard manner, and OpenTable shouldn't let the restaurant use their platform.
The restaurant clearly doesn't value its customers, or those who make reservations in advance. A simple phone call advising that the reservation couldn't be accommodated would have been sufficient. An entirely unacceptable experience with the The Capital: American Eatery & Lounge.
Pork chop itself was excellent.. fried chicken was good but we did not like the sauces on the pork chop of fried chicken..overwhelmed the dish. But great service and ambience will try again order something different next time.
Sorry to report that this restaurant has Closed! Unfortunately, to report a restaurant I must use 50 characters!
Fantastic flavors in all foods!! Great time was had by all.
We participated in restaurant week, so the meal was a great value at $20.17/per. We also had the option of ordering off the regular menu. Our waiter (Ben) was great. There was some confusion about inclusion of jalapeño peppers in the main dish (he indicated there were some; one diner ordered her dish without. Another waitress indicated there were no peppers in the dish. There were.). We were given the option of a third dessert that wasn't included in the restaurant week options. Ambience was nice. Valet parking a plus.
Good food but overly pricey. We were told there was no drink specials but there were.
Our party of the 3 went to The Capital for the first time as part of the Albany Restaurant Week promotion, where for $20.17 we could choose items from a special menu.
The service was good and the presentation was nice, but the food was just OK. For a starter, I chose the hummus and pickle plate, which was the best part of the meal overall, with varied pickled items, good bread, and excellent hummus. For the main course, I chose the cider-glazed salmon with pickled apples. It was cooked perfectly, but the sauce was too similar to the flavors of the pickle plate. I had expected it to be sweeter and more mellow, and the intense vinegar flavor overwhelmed the taste of the fish.
For dessert, I chose the creme brulee cheesecake. The crackly creme brulee topping was nice, and the consistency of the cheesecake was excellent, but the flavor was bland and the cheesecake was partially frozen.
Overall, the food was good, but not great, but I would be willing to give them another try.
Took almost two hours for two courses AND gratuity was included at 21% for two people? Was on the bill in very fine print and pretty shady if you ask me.
Went before a concert at the Times Union....lucky we made a reservation as every place was packed. Menu is kinda limited. Calamari was tasty but served lukewarm. Bread was "home baked" but mediocre at best. No cocktail menu but lots of beer. Fish tacos were bland. Baked brie was ridiculously small with a quarter of a sliced apple and some berries...toasted bruschetta would have been good. Server was pleasant but really spacey.
This was our first visit. We were in the area for a show. We had a reservation for 5:45 and still had to rush to the show at 7:30. We waited a long time for our meals to come out. We would not recommend this restaurant.
A friend and I went before going to see John Mayer at the TUC and I was pleasantly surprised to hear John Mayer playing in the restaurant. The food was excellent and my drink was delicious. The abianance was very chill and the decor very modern. The only bad thing I have to say is the water was gross and the bathroom needs updating. I'm pretty sure it's the same bathroom from when it was jillians. Overall will definitely come back.
The waitress was not very good. The food took a long time to come out (30 minutes). The place is nice and seems to have good potential but they need to get the staff in order.
Took my girlfriend for Valentines Day. A cool spot. We both really enjoyed the food and ambiance. The service was good and people who worked there extremely friendly. We are both vegetarians. I had the roasted Poblano pepper stuffed with polenta and corn and my girlfriend had the goat cheese salad. We would definitely recommend The Capital for casual dining and will be back again.
The food is always great! Very generous portion sizes. It is a tradition for us to eat here on Valentine's Day!
Delicious food! I had the chicken riggies which is a hometown favorite of mine - it was SUPER hot tasting but delicious! My boyfriend had a delicious steak and potatoes! We had meatball appetizer- delicious and filling!! Service was a little slow but the place was pretty packed! Would definitely go back and would recommend to others!!!
My chicken dish was fabulous! And the bar very cozy!
Waited over an hour for two meals and when they arrived both orders were wrong
We took advantage of Open Table to make a reservation prior to a Saturday night performance by Albany Symphony Orchestra at the Palace Theatre. I am glad we did, I work in downtown Albany and have had lunch at The Capital American Eatery but will go back again for dinner.
Great place for dinner before show downtown. A little disappointed that menu was limited due to show at TU same night (we went to the Rep). Mushroom risotto was excellent and hand crafted old fashioned from bar was a treat. We will definitely try again when regular dinner menu is being served. Live music was OK but we preferred Michael Buble Christmas tunes on Spotify during break. We have enjoyed an awesome boozy Sunday brunch at the Capital too. It's a cool place, fresh and local food and very attentive staff.
My adult daughter and I were in town for a concert at the Palace. Restaurant was able to accommodate us on short
notice. The food and service were both very good but I probably wouldn't return as there was not much on the menu I could eat. An easy walk to the Palace made it a great choice for this special visit
We were pleasantly surprised. Went there for dinner before a show and had a great meal.
We went out with friends just to get together for a nice outing. We had a delightful evening and delicious dinner with terrific service.
WE THOUGHT THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD AND THE ATMOSPHERE WAS ALSO VERY GOOD. I T GOT A LITTLE LOUD AS THE BAR FILLED BUT NOT SO BAD THAT YOU COULD NOT HAVE A CONVERSATION. ALL OF US SAID THAT WE WILL BE BACK AGAIN. WE REALLY LOVED THE DINNER.
Great spot close to the Egg for a light supper before a show.
Disappointed in our visit from the moment we arrived. We had reserved a table well in advance but were seated at a high top table in the bar area. Knowing that my daughter and I would both be uncomfortable as we are both very short in stature, I asked to move to a regular table, but was told they were all reserved and booked before us. Then we were presented with a special, limited "show" menu. The dinner I planned on ordering after previewing the menu on-line was not available. If the restaurant was planning on a different menu that night, I feel we should have known about it when reserving a table. Service and food were okay. An hour and a half later, when we were leaving, half of the reserved tables we were told we couldn't be seated at were still empty. Not likely to visit again.
We've always enjoyed their food but their service is always slow.
Well done. Good food. Great service.
No AC on a very hot evening, we were sweating!. Gin and tonics to start. Tonic was flat and tasted "off". We have never sent back drinks before. Risoto was very oily, unable to eat it although the scallops were ok, a little too salty. Husband's filet was good but no baked potato available ruined it for him, he doesn't like mashed and can't eat cheese so the meal was not worth the price for either of us. We definitely won't be back.
The waitress was attentive and friendly and the food was of high quality. The ambience was sophisticated but casual, and there is outdoor dining available. Will definitely come back.
I thought it was off, that The fried calamari came with cocktail sauce instead of marinara sauce. The shrimp in my salad could have been cooked for another 30 seconds, just a little too soft. First time in Albany.
What a find in Albany!
Friendly service (Max). Delicious food, and generous portions for restaurant week.
Had a wonderful dinner with friends before going to a show at the EGG. Lovely place to eat with good food and wonderful service.
We had to wait one hour for food an plus our waiter kept forgetting what we ordered!overall bad experience.
Dinner was excellent, service was great but would not recommend to bring children.
Four of us dined at the Capital Eatery last Saturday night for the first time. We were all very impressed with the restaurant itself. We loved the décor. The service was outstanding (thank you, Max!) and the food was delicious. There's something on the menu for everyone. Shrimp tacos, ravioli with meatballs, scallops with risotto, and a salad with grilled chicken...... excellent!
The food was very good and the service was great. Sharing plates for Valentine's day w as just the right amount of food and a nice romantic rouch.
We liked the red wine selections. We had our tweens with us and they enjoyed the singer who tried to engage the audience in making requests. The food took an hour and the waitress rushed off several times before I could ask a question. Otherwise, we were well taken care of once we flagged her down. The entertainer turned a dinner out into a special occasion for our family.
Dinner for 12 with reservations was two hours of sitting and waiting. No management to be found and a waitress who was obliviously embarrassed and did her best.
What happened? The food was good though. Might have been short staffed that night?
Surprisingly good food at good price!
