The Cannery Ratings and Reviews
Sister reunion! Sister, Daughter, Aunt weekend celebration! It was very special. The food was very good. The service was responsive and very pleasant. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. After all, anytime you eat well with those you love... is a special time!
The valet parking was a good price $4. The wine list is huge. The service was good but not great. The food was above average but the cranberry sauce for thanksgiving was too tart to eat. The Brussels sprouts should have been replaced with green beans. No one ate both of these sides on most tables. The rest of the thanksgiving meal and desert was great. The $60 price each was fair for that location and quite atmosphere.
I guess the best review I could offer is that we've spent almost every anniversary, including #51 last Sunday, at the Cannery. The bartender, Christian, bought us a round and made the best damn Rusty Nail I've ever had and the house waved our corkage fee and honored us with dessert. We had two of the least expensive meals on the menu...not because of the price but because the short rib hamburger rivals Daniel Boulod (and I know as I paid $35 for a Boulod slider in NYC) and my wife's lobster roll was scrumptious.
The only negatives...they no longer celebrate Nouveau Beaujolais which is disappointing and their wine list is not inexpensive. But then they have a 50% wine list for lunch every day and Tuesday night.
The Cannery was an excellent place to celebrate a birthday. One of the guests in our party said his Chilean Sea Bass was some of the best he has ever had. The staff was particularly kind to our two little ones, especially since this is not really considered to be a "family restaurant." Nice job all around!
Glad we chose to come here! We had come into town from Kansas City...It was our anniversary. Both the manager on duty and the server treated us like this was a special event! Super friendly and a couple of treats on the house.
The weather couldn't have been more comfortable- we sat outside by the water. A beautiful view.
The menu choices all looked enticing... I ultimately I selected the lobster pasta. I will say the lobster was overcooked and tough, which was a bummer. But everything else was delish!
We hadn’t been to The Cannery in several years so decided to take a drive to Newport Beach and give it a try. Food and wine was good but very pricey, so we probably won’t go there again. We can go out to dinner twice at two nice restaurants for what we paid at The Cannery. Service was great. It was nice sitting outside watching a few boats go by. We read about their history and that was interesting.
Our patio table waterside was ready and our guests seated when we got there at the appointed time.Attentive service but no rush. Wine price moderate. Sea bass a little pricy but worth it. Very inventive presentation and "we ate the plate'! Very good deserts. Great for a college reunion get together
I go to the Cannery when I'm in Newport Beach for the weekend. Whether your table is on the dock or inside or on the top floor, you feel like you were just taking a way to a magical place. We were a party of 4 for Sunday brunch and my husband and I arrived about half an hour earlier than our friends. We ordered the bloody Mary with the quarter pound shrimp on the side. It was quite spectacular. I noticed out of the corner of my eye that our waiter was waiting for us to squeeze the lemons and take the tails off of our shrimp and came quickly to remove our side plates and bring fresh please. That being said....the service was amazing. The food...spectacular! We felt like royalty and did not feel like we're being rushed. Poncho...aka...Ponchito...El Patron and his wife will be back!
Went to celebrate my birthday with a big group for dinner.
The ambience is magical there - we sat on the outside patio by the water and boats.
We got dozen oysters, octopus, calamari and crab cake for appetizers. Everything was fresh and delicious. My favorite appetizer was octopus - slightly grilled with a yummy pesto sauce on the side.
For the main course i had scallops and risotto. It was good, next time however id try a different dish. There were 10 of us and we all got different things, my friends were all happy with their selections. Definitely come back!
I hadn't eaten here in a long time. The restaurant could use an update as it's old and tired. We tried several dishes...the swordfish, the sea bass, the diver scallops, and the calimari. Everything was good, but not great. There are so many great restaurants in Newport Beach, I think it will be a long time before we return.
