The Cannery Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant is great. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Our server Romy was the best. Retaining its ambience, the old cannery has been beautifully restored into a charming restaurant. The baseball memorabilia room is worth the trip alone! Even on a rainy day, we sat comfortably on the outdoor patio, fully covered and heated with an active sea and marina view. Food was unique and perfectly prepared...Peruvian Scallops delicious, Mediterranean Seafood Salad with lots and lots of fresh seafood tossed with a creamy Green Goddess dressing, Loup de Mer an innovative preparation of banzino, and the signature dessert with gelato, carmelized bananas, chocolate and fresh berries was awesome. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
We were a family group of 8, 4 generations, out for a New Years Day lunch. We sat on the patio which is right on the water. This was very entertaining for our 3 year old granddaughter. She watched the sea lions, ducks and boats come and go.
The menu has enough choices to please a broad age group (2-87). We ordered oysters, to die for burgers, Chilean sea bass, fish tacos, with Brussels sprouts and fries. Everyone in my groups was happy with their meal and full enough that we had to pass on desert! The prices are reasonable especially considering the waterfront location.
Our server was very cheerful which helped make for an enjoyable dining experience!
5 professional women met for NYE brunch. Our service was slow. After being seated inside, our waitress arrived in about 12 min. We tried to get the hostess attn at 10 min when she sat another table nearby but were ignored. Attn during our meal was sparse. Otherwise all was great.
Poor food. Way too salty for every entree except the filets. We went to the restaurant for nostalgia as my father in law remembered the Cannery from thirty years ago as the BEST restaurant in Orange County. We were really disappointed in the food and underwhelmed by the service. We will not go back again.
We arrived on time for our 5:45 reservation on 12.23.2017, the greeter asked if we wanted to be seated, of course we wanted to be seated. The waiter was friendly and helpful, BUT our main course came out almost immediately after our entries, so we felt "rushed"! My girl friend's scallops were delicious, but my sea bass lacked flavor or a sauce to enhance it, the side dish was small and tasteless. Nice two scoops of ice cream for desert with a de-caf! So for a Christmas dinner meant to be special and memorable, it was not! Sorry, again waiter was fine!
This place was really wonderful to have a pre Christmas family lunch. Food was delicious. Service was polite, helpful and perfectly timed (no lags between courses). We had the brunch. The lobster roll, French toast, chicken and waffles, crab cakes and key lime pie desert. Everything was delicious. The creme brûlée French toast was the best I’ve ever had and I’m a foodie. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place!
This place was highly recommended by my co-worker. Since there were four of us, we were able to share many items from the menu. Oysters were so fresh and clean. Crab cakes, scallops, and clam chowder were delicious. So was Kale salad with the grilled shrimp. Fish tacos were so good. They were served with home made tortillas. The service was exceptional. We'll definitely go back.
Sister reunion! Sister, Daughter, Aunt weekend celebration! It was very special. The food was very good. The service was responsive and very pleasant. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. After all, anytime you eat well with those you love... is a special time!
The valet parking was a good price $4. The wine list is huge. The service was good but not great. The food was above average but the cranberry sauce for thanksgiving was too tart to eat. The Brussels sprouts should have been replaced with green beans. No one ate both of these sides on most tables. The rest of the thanksgiving meal and desert was great. The $60 price each was fair for that location and quite atmosphere.
I guess the best review I could offer is that we've spent almost every anniversary, including #51 last Sunday, at the Cannery. The bartender, Christian, bought us a round and made the best damn Rusty Nail I've ever had and the house waved our corkage fee and honored us with dessert. We had two of the least expensive meals on the menu...not because of the price but because the short rib hamburger rivals Daniel Boulod (and I know as I paid $35 for a Boulod slider in NYC) and my wife's lobster roll was scrumptious.
The only negatives...they no longer celebrate Nouveau Beaujolais which is disappointing and their wine list is not inexpensive. But then they have a 50% wine list for lunch every day and Tuesday night.
The Cannery was an excellent place to celebrate a birthday. One of the guests in our party said his Chilean Sea Bass was some of the best he has ever had. The staff was particularly kind to our two little ones, especially since this is not really considered to be a "family restaurant." Nice job all around!
Glad we chose to come here! We had come into town from Kansas City...It was our anniversary. Both the manager on duty and the server treated us like this was a special event! Super friendly and a couple of treats on the house.
The weather couldn't have been more comfortable- we sat outside by the water. A beautiful view.
The menu choices all looked enticing... I ultimately I selected the lobster pasta. I will say the lobster was overcooked and tough, which was a bummer. But everything else was delish!
