We loved the ambience of the cannery. The baseball memorabilia is wonderful. Food and service were excellent. Our waiter, Kevin was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant.
2 of three dishes were over cooked
Great location, great atmosphere for Sunday bruch. Was a little disappointed with the food - for a restaurant on the OC Register's top 20, I expected more. My wife's burger was medium rare with onions, when she asked for well done, no onions, and my heuvos rancheros were just okay. On the flip side, my son's Mediterraean Seafood Salad, and my future Son in Law's Kamayan were the bomb!
Everything was perfect! Loved sitting on the patio!
The food and service was great. A large boat parked was blocking the whole view for all of us in the restaurant.
We normally love the Cannery but this was the exception. The service was very poor. We felt ignored most of the time. The lobster rolls needed more spice. The Caesar Salad was not up to the usual standard
Great staff, ambience & View!!
Enjoyed a delicious meal on their patio watching people enjoying boating and SUP. Our waiter was wonderful. One thing that spoiled our experience was the group next to our table who was loud and using foul language (f-bombs, sh_t) throughout their time there. It was a relief when they finally left in their boat. There was also a family with a child that had a table away from the railing and decided to stand right by our table at the railing to look at the boats. One of the parents and their child blocked our view throughout our meal. I don't know why they couldn't have gone to another part of the railing when the entire left side of the patio was empty. We were finally able to enjoy the view and our meal when both parties were gone. It was a lot more relaxing too. How people behave can ruin or help the dining experience of others. Thank goodness that the food was delicious (Tuna on toast, New England clam chowder, Mediterranean seafood salad, & key lime pie) and the service was great!
Wonderful restaurant experience. We were a party of 6 for Sunday Brunch and were seated promptly outside. The server was excellent and made the morning very enjoyable. We did the bottomless mimosa option and a few bloody marys - I highly recommend both. Food was artfully prepared and delicious. Portion was a little small for the price and shrimp skewers were a little overcooked for all of our Kamayan dishes. That didn't take way from an enjoyable time at the Cannery. Will definitely be back!
Family came over for our yearly visit to Newport Beach, and of course the Cannery was our #1 place to dine. We have shared many special occasions here over the past 8 years. It is really a must to place o dine!
We had a bad start with poor service... took forever for the server to come to the table to even take our drink order. We had good calamari and a wedge salad that could have used more dressing up. My husband had the whole Branzino which he enjoyed and our friend and I had the lobster thermidor which was very good. View on the deck was really enjoyable. Very unfortunate the server was just slow and frankly lazy.
Nothing beats the amazing outdoor dining experience, the food and the view of boats coming and going on a summer evening, inviting and relaxing! Thank you for making our family get together so memorable!
The Cannery is always a good idea if you want to treat yourself and others to great food and a great ambience. I highly recommend their brunch on the weekends. It won't disappoint.
The trout was absolutely amazing! It was not necessarily served with gnocchi like the menu said, but it was still terrific .We were entertaining friends from London and they loved the meal and the experience!!
Disappointed in the menu and service was a little aggressive. The new bar on the main floor means bar people are disturbing diners
Always a great place for weekend brunch! Great service, food and the view is amazing!
They changed the menu and instead of offing their lunch menu they went to an all day menu and it was very expensive for lunch and they did not have small plates and very little choice that I liked. My sister could not eat anything on menu as before she could with the lunch menu. The 1/2 price wine for lunch and our waitress was only good thing about our lunch. Our hamburger was not worth 21$ and my sister could only have a $35 halibut because she cannot eat any fat. I doubt if we will go back. Very disappointed has been our favorite lunch spot for years.
Amazing food with spectacular views
Dinner was perfectly delectable. I had Snake River trout and my husband had lobster bisque and scallops. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. Cannery building updated with warm wood paneling. And the tables were dressed with white tablecloths.
The food was amazing. The view was nice we really enjoyed watching the boats come in and out. If it wasn’t for our absolutely rude and horribly pretentious waiter Bob we would’ve had a perfect night. Bob completely ruined it and we will never come back because of him.
Food was awful and staff was unorganized
Not the Cannery we remember from 5 years ago. Limited menu. Fish was dry. Not the same...disappointing.
We are celebrating my niece college graduation and my bday! Live this restaurant, it’s history, ambiance and most of all the wonderful service. Food is always good here! Really enjoyed our evening!
We go to Cannery 1/2 dozen times a year and generally have very good experiences, but the service was not very good this time, my "guess" is that our waitress was preoccupied with issues ( not the friendly type) we usually get ... everyone is entitle to having a bad day obsessionally, So I just ignore this one bad day!
We understand that you pay more for a seat next to the bay. But for 2 people without drinks or desert @ $140 +parking +tip is outrageous. The food was good but the portions were miniscule. service was polite but I had to ask for a soda twice. not worth it. I wont go again. I'll try the Bluewater grill.
Worst brunch ever. Really.
They should have stuck to the foods that they prepare everyday, but for some reason, on Father's Day, the chef took it upon himself to invent a new menu, filled with atrocities that were literally inedible.
It was like a ten year old started cooking for the first time.
There were five of us, and three of us had to send our meals back... it was that bad.
And believe me, we can tolerate all kinds of bad food, but this was off the chart bad.
Can't understand why management allowed this to happen. Really poor oversight.
This was a total, colossal disaster for the restaurant, and permanently harmed its reputation.
This is regarding Father's day brunch. Upon arrival everyone was very accomodating and we were seated early in a lovely table over looking the water. The brunch menu was very odd and limited. Nowhere on their website was the price $65 or the menu posted. The clam chowder, pasta dish and eggs benedict were mediocre.
The ambiance and service was impeccable. We had our Father’s Day celebration here and they made the brunch so special. Loved the patio seating and watched the boats in the bay while dining. Food was delicious and included a good variety to select from.
Waiter was distracted and slow. Full but not crazy busy. Food Luke warm, nice ambiance outside, linen tablecloths and candles etc Music was suitable but could have been turned up outside. It was all ‘okay’ just not ‘great’
It was our family's first time to dine at The Cannery as suggested by a friend. My husband & I celebrated our much delayed wedding anniversary and Father's day at the same time. I requested a table with a view and we were so delighted to get one. Ambiance and food was great and even received a complimentary dessert for our wedding anniversary. Will definitely come back. Thank you The Cannery!
Great meal. Wish I remembered the servers name - he was awesome! Recommended.
It was very good, the food was very tasty and service was also good.
I’ll go back again.
Disappointed on the service the restaurant wasn’t staffed properly.
The Cannery has had some chef changes over the past 5 years and the most recent Chef Marcus is doing a great job in some interesting fish with a variety of bases.
I recently had the halibut which was paired with a creamy type, either potato, or emulsion of some sort, along with asparagus and lardon, and it was fabulous.
Give it a try I believe you will enjoy the change.
What a wonderful experience we had dining at this restaurant. I’m out here on the West Coast for work and a client flew in to join me for dinner. After asking around I several friends suggested the Cannery. We were not disappointed. The ambience, service and delicious fresh seafood were spot on! I will definitely be back. Thank you for a perfect dining experience.
