Good food and cocktails, great wine list, inside ambience is quite noisy, but outdoor patio is better. VERY pricy, and charge for valet (only) parking which is obviously a money grab, but overall a good experience...
Service was slow and the steak entrees were very mediocre at best. Caesar salad was poor, seemed like the lettuce old and dressing did not have a good caesar taste. Menu is very limited. Overall not a great experience. The location and outside patio dining was excellent, but they really need a new chef.
Very disappointing food quality. Went there for a family birthday party. Would not go back.
The Cannery was AMAZING!! We arrived early for The Happiest Hour & enjoyed tasty appetizers & a Gr8 cocktail. Then we went downstairs for dinner where we had DELICIOUS entrees & impeccable service from Cory, our waiter!! I'm actually online now planning our next trip there! This time we'd Love to cruise the harbor then dock & have dinner!!
We had brunch with 5 friends. Service and food was outstanding
Fabulous. Food is amazing
Service was marginal upstairs as it took 15 minutes for a server to arrive and had to find another server to get my check once we were called for our table downstairs
Service was good downstairs but the shrimp pasta dish was marginal with over cooked chewy pasta
It’s usually pretty good food but this time not so much
Great place to go- Patio is a but quieter unless there is a table with too much alcohol :(
I would recommend The Cannery to a friend because the food was good. However, the day we went they changed the menu and we were stuck ordering from one menu, the brunch menu, and at $50.00 a person at that, except we asked for the menu with just entrees which made each entree less expensive since we weren't there for a brunch, we were there to order entrees. The menu changed on the day, of course, we were there to celebrate a special occasion so we thought we were going to be able to choose from the regular menu and not a new brunch menu that not even the waiter had tried only that morning himself. The waiter tried, he was confused, too, so no complaints about the waiter. But we waited a very long time for food, ordering, and noticed others had the same problem as well in the restaurant. It was a very interesting lunch to say the least. The atmosphere is great, nice, beautiful day. So that's about all I can say for our experience. Wish it would have been different. We sat around a lot. At least our water glasses were filled up continuously. I really don't think it was fair, however, to spring a completely different menu on customers and not have the usual one available as a back-up.
Nice thick cuts of fish cooked perfectly! The homemade pasta was delicious with shrimp. We were in no hurry and waiter let us be leisurely. Great experience
I ordered the egg and bacon breakfast, horrible English Muffin, everything else was great.
We enjoyed brunch at 10:30 am on a Saturday and it was the perfect time to be there. We were one of the first guests to arrive for the day and got a beautiful table with a waterfront view. They had a lot of seafood brunch items, the shrimp etouffee was delicious shrimp with a red gravy sauce, sunny side eggs over corn biscuits. We also enjoyed the bacon and egg breakfast and bottomless mimosas!
Lobster roll was dry and nothing special. Service was good, food over rated.
Usual outstanding meal, service and ambiance! We sat on the patio and enjoyed sunset time.
Lovely time and hung out for several hours during lunch. Old friends getting together--perfect setting and the service was great. Thanks,
We always have a dinner night at the Cannery whenever we visit the OC, especially when we can sit on the outside patio facing the bay. The food is slightly pricey but always excellent, especially the seafood. The only thing to mar this particular experience is that the service was incredibly slow. Our server fell on his sword and said he was having trouble with a new ordering system but also took full responsibility. He comped us 2 glasses of wine and dessert. Despite this hiccup we will definitely be back on our next trip.
An old favorite has lost its luster. Staff was uninterested. Fried calamari, oysters on the half shell and ahi tuna were all bland. Has chef changed?Too many other restaurants in Newport have upped their games in last couple years. Sorry to see the decline.
Husband says the rainbow trout was one of the best dishes he has ever eaten. I had the pasta and practically licked the plate. Plus husband is a baseball fan and loved the memorabilia room.
Everything was great until a few hours after I ate the lobster tail and became sick with stomach cramps for over 24 hours.
We went for a birthday brunch. Sat on the patio. Very quiet when we arrived at 11:00am, but it was hopping by the time we left. Brunch menu was not as extensive as I expected, but everything we ordered was excellent.
Everything about the restaurant was great. Our only concern was the large party that was seated next to us. Their language was very loud and very inappropriate. One of them stood up and yelled profanity at the person across the table. We were not the only party that was taken aback. I wish a manager would have stepped in, but I didn't see that happen. Everything else was great.
Great food and service as always.
I took my girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday. We went for lunch so the restaurant was not crowded at all. Despite that, service was slow. We took the server's suggestion and ordered the halibut. It came over-cooked and was VERY greasy. The waitress took it back and got us something else we both could eat, though it wasn't remarkable either. All in all, this spot is good for tourists who want the ambiance and don't care that much about the quality of the food.
My date and I both ordered swordfish for lunch. The portion was adequate but priced on the high side. I asked that it be cooked on the rare side and the waitress said "no problem, the kitchen cooks it perfectly". In my opinion, and according to my tastes, the swordfish was slightly overcooked and slighty on the dry side. Not to an extreme that it was not tasty.
We split "the original Balboa bar" for dessert which was sort of like a banana split and a huge portion. It was very good and rich but I ate 80% of it which was too much.
Atmosphere on the outside patio was very comfortable and pleasant on the water.
I consider this a special occasion restaurant based on the prices and good food but not outstanding in my opinion.
Best food we’ve eaten since relocating to this area!!!
The menu was small but the food was very delicious we went for my girlfriend's birthday and we didn't expect a complimentary desert but it was great.
Great outdoor seat next to the water- service was great. Bartender was excellent.
Our group of 4 all felt the portions were small for the price. The service average. We wish we would have known about the lounge upstairs prior to being seated as it seemed like a more vibrant environment.
Great service with fabulous food and scenery. Great location above the dock to seat the water and yachts. Thank you!
Just a great late night dining experience with my European guests. Excellent food, attentive service, and we closed the place, with no hassle or obvious attempts to have us leave. Really a nice dinner.
We always love the Cannery. If it wasn't expensive we would go more often
Very good food & service with waterfront tables and views of numerous large boats. My son and I enjoyed Caesar salad and swordfish. The waiter was attentive, prices are reasonable, and we had a fun evening. I would definitely return to The Cannery.
Great meal with friends, and great service from Robert!
We have been here before and I would have said it was a consistent 3.5 to 4. This time was a disaster. Our server seemed to be out of sorts,
Getting confused, coming back to confirm our orders, etc. The capper however was when my wife’s entree arrived and the rest of the party didn’t get their’s. She finished hers before ours arrived. They blamed it on a new computer system, however we didn’t see anyone else having issues. They offered a weak apology, didn’t offer to comp. anything and acted like it was no big deal. Since the food is only average that will be our last visit.
Very nice place. The brunch selection was a little small but everything we had was good. Great service, no one bothered or harried us. I’d go again for sure.
The food was mediocre and overpriced for what it was.
It is an amazing location and a beautiful building but overall we were unimpressed.
I guess that’s always a danger when the expectations are so high.
Excellent service, only thing that actually was better than the food.
The server was attentive and efficient. We were educated on the products and specials. Meals were absolutely delicious
Birthday celebration and it was very nice!
The food was great-well prepared and presented. Ryan did an excellent job of explaining menu options and served in an attentive manner. Excellent value. Will return.
