The Butchart Gardens - The Dining Room
Great lovely afternoon!
We had a wonderful high tea at Butchart Gardens. The wait staff was friendly and informative. The tea was lovely with a nice selection of savory and sweet nibbles. Very filling! We took quite a bit away for later. The view of the garden was terrific.
Great place for high tea
What a beautiful setting in the heart of Butchart Gardens - delightful, the food was wonderful, the service was good, and just an overall wonderful experience - high tea was priced appropriately - the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Would highly recommend!
We had a lovely afternoon tea and the staff were very friendly and celebrated my birthday in style, complete with a chocolate that said Happy Birthday!
It was a wonderful treat for all of us and will definitely do it again!
Great experience , staff was very friendly and I would highly recommend
Girlfriend’s birthday gift - very special with optimum service, food & ambiance
The only reason the food did not receive a five star rating, is because of the cream served with the scones. An authentic high tea should have DEVON cream, while this was not quite the real thing. The rest of it was very good and the server was outstanding.
The High Tea was really impressive, with a great variety of teas and food. They had an excellent vegetarian option, too.
High Tea at Buchart Gardens did not dissapoint. The dining room is beautiful, service impeccable, food delicious.
It was worth the treat.
Delicious food amazing atmosphere stunning gardens what more can you ask for.
80th birthday afternoon tea. Sat by the fireplace and had the best service ever. Relaxing and you really get your money’s worth. See you next time we hit Victoria!!
This was our second time having high tea at Butchart Gardens and both times the experience has been excellent. We were especially impressed that despite arriving 30 minutes before our reservation time, the hostess was able to get us in immediately and our arrival didn't noticeably change the pace of operations or the attention of the servers. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. We felt as if we were in a treasured 'cocoon', cared for and beautifully waited on. The tea was delicious as were the savouries and sandwiches. Unfortunately, we could not indulge in the parties, so we brought them back to our hotel. Even though they were immediately refrigerated, they were not as fresh and tasty had we enjoyed them at the gardens. Perhaps this was because the savouries were so tasty... We were expecting a similar high quality with the rest. All in all, it was the perfect afternoon tea and we were honoured to be there. Thank you.
A very nice tea in a beautiful, one of a kind setting. We booked Afternoon Tea at the gardens to celebrate our 40th anniversary, and it was a lovely experience. From the hostess to our server, all the staff were gracious and professional and couldn't do enough for us. They were able to accommodate my husband's gluten free request (booked in advance) and you could barely tell the difference between his tray and mine as far as flavor, presentation, etc. A very nice touch of chocolate "Happy Anniversary" decoration on the top of the tea tray made it even more special, and the teas were delicious.
I would say that if you've had Afternoon Tea in England or other places, this one may or may not be what you're expecting, as it's not strictly traditional. They put their own spin on some of the dishes (i.e., ginger scones, a hamhock croquette instead of sausage roll); everything was good, some items were great.
The setting of the Dining Room at the house is very special, even on a dreary, rainy day because you're sitting inside looking out a the gardens drinking a hot cuppa and being served with friendly and professional people who enjoy their work. In the spring and summer with the sunshine it must be even more glorious with all the roses in bloom across the lawn. It is a treat, just check the menu online so you know what to expect.
Was beautiful lunch. Food was delicious, tea was amazing and the one in a million experience is a box checker.
I found the sandwiches not as nice as the summer ones. Desserts heavier too......
A wonderful experience & way to end a 2 week vacation. The server did a great job of answering dining questions but also those related to Butchart Gardens & greater Victoria.
We horoughly enjoyed our first High Tea event but were not satisfied with the online reservation made with Open Table. We had made a specific table request which was not picked up by the system so will not use Open Table again.
Fall High Tea was very good. Skimpy on the sandwich fillings. Wine flight was not very good. Would recommend Prosecco for the whole meal.
Sat outside by request to view the gardens better and get the fresh air. Hanging pots of flowers visited by bees and hummingbirds while we dined. Had afternoon tea which was AMAZING! Got kind of cold but they gave us blankets which was an extra touch. Service good and staff very friendly. Took my daughter on a mom/daughter vacation there because I had been before and was just as enchanted the second time.
We had a lovely lunch at the Dining Room before a couple of hours walking around the gardens. Extremely good waiter and excellent food. Our waiter went out of his way to explain some quirks in the menu descriptions that would have tripped us up and perhaps led to some disappointments. A great menu with some unique items not just burgers and sandwiches.
Lovely setting with lots of plants (of course) in the solarium of the old house. Prices reflected the premium experience but still a solid value and a good place to quietly plan your attack on the gardens as it takes a bit of time to see the extensive grounds.
A friend had recommended that we go to the gardens in the afternoon so this lunch worked out great as a part of our plan to see the gardens. I would say that the lunch here is a must do part of Butchart Gardens.
Service was excellent but the portions were small and the food was over cooked and overpriced.
Loved everything about our experience at the gardens. The tea service was the best we have had to date - made exceptional by the wonderful service we received. Highly recommend! We will be back for sure.
Very nice with a great view of a part of the Gardens. Excellent value and our server, Ayesha, was spot on with her service!
We are pass holders to the gardens and enjoy having afternoon tea or lunch at the restaurant occasionally. The hostess and others were very friendly but our waitress seemed less than enthusiastic, to put it politely. I understand that it might get monotonous to serve the same dishes over and over, but it's important for service staff to have a warm & welcoming demeanor. The type of interaction we received would be appropriate at a pub or more casual restaurant, but at Butchart I have come to expect a little more from a customer service standpoint.
We ate outside overlooking the gardens. The view was lovely, but the bees attacking our food was very annoying. Our waiter kept apologizing but nothing was done about the issue.
This experience was a little disappointing. The food was ok, but nothing special, that others had suggested. The service was slow in our area, whilst others got well looked after.
The table was great the view great and the visit to the gardens was excellent.
We had the afternoon tea which was amazing from start to finish. The service could not be faulted, attentive and informative without being over the top. The tea a wonderful collection of savoury and sweet bite sized treats. We all agreed the sausage rolls were to die for. It was a fabulous way to finish our 3week holiday in Canada, a walk around the beautiful gardens then tea in a lovely setting. Thanks
This was a special treat for us as it was our anniversary. It exceeded our expectations. The food was exceptional, our French waiter was superb, and the setting was stunning. We had the afternoon tea as a special treat, and it was worth every penny. An added treat was watching a hummingbird play in the flowers as we ate.
Afternoon tea was simply fabulous, but our server was so exemplary that we were amazed. One member of our party is gluten-free and dairy-free. Our server went above and beyond, even checking recipes to make certain the food for the GF, DF member of our party was safe for her to eat. If you want an unforgettable afternoon tea in Victoria, this is the place. Having tea after touring the gardens made our day at Butchart Gardens one we will never forget.
The dining room has a beautiful setting in the gardens. We really enjoyed the selection on courses and drinks available. Service was very attentive and helpful which made the dining experience all the more enjoyable. Would go again and recommend.
Absolutely beautiful. We had the high tea. The food was delicious and the presentation gorgeous. We were seated the porch with a lovely view of the gardens. A wonderful memory!
It is hard to beat a perfectly presented Afternoon Tea. And it was perfect. We sat on the veranda on a cool September afternoon. Blankets were available if needed. It had rained, but the gardens were stunning in their deep green and bright colors. The tea is surprisingly filling starting with trifle, and followed with many one- and two-bite sandwiches, tiny quiche, sausage roll, the many beautiful little desserts, and a surprising scone (spiced with ginger). Service was quiet and efficient. (The only negative to being outside were some tenacious wasps who really wanted the jam and cream for our scones.)
Absolutely perfect dinner, beef tenderloin on the terrace, delicious chocolate desserts after, this is a gem of a place. Service stellar, food hot and a walk through the lovely gardens before and after the dinner, can’t imagine a nicer anniversary! Nice choice of our favorite local libations as well. Highly recommend!
Outstanding experience. Thank you
High tea. Most of the food was great except for the meringue cookies. Dry crumbly and tasteless.
Wonderful location to enjoy dinner.
The food was excellent and bountiful. Enjoyed the flight of wine to complement the tiers. The sunroom was light and airy with views of the gardens. We spent 2 hrs at Tea . This was our highlight in Victoria.
