The Butchart Gardens - The Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
High tea was lovely and in a fantastic space. The staff was very attentive and we would definitely return again. One thing I wished that we had known was that we could have switched out a few items. Although we don't have allergies, we didn't realize that we could have said no tuna salad and have something else.
Great special occasion activity and experience.
I found the albacore tuna appy and roasted beets, totally delish! The perogies were just okay. I had recently made perogies and thought mine were better. The duck inside was too well done. Creme fraiche and garnish was refreshing.
The pavlova dessert could be less hard and chewy. I almost asked for a steak knife to cut into it. Sauce was devine!
The apple tattin crust was chewy and mushy. Sauce was way too sweet.
The amuse bouche we had the luxury of experiencing was the best!
Loved the cooked brussel sprouts accompanying the lamb. Cooked to perfection.
Service was terrific! Very attentive staff.
We've enjoyed high tea and dinners in the dining room on special occasions, particularly new year's eve in the dining room. Usually enjoyable despite the high prices, however this year my holiday menu entree was disappointing. The soup was excellent, but the Pacific Ling cod dish had an overriding heavy saltiness that took away my appetite for it. Belatedly, I realize it was prepared with a caper anchovy butter sauce which would explain the briny salty flavour. I only noted the issue to the courteous friendly server at the end of the meal - my fault. When I was debating between the salmon and cod entrees I wish she'd drawn my attention to the cod entree's strong salty feature.
The staff accommodated our special occasion as noted in the reservation. We stopped into the restaurant to see if we could get a drink 1.5 hours ahead of our reservation time because it was so cold outside, and they were actually able to seat us early on NYE. Service was friendly and mostly quick, views were great, and the food was delicious and well worth the expense. Overall great experience!
This was my second evening meal during the very busy Christmas season in the Dining Room at Butchart Gardens. The first was with two friends a couple of weeks ago and that entire meal experience was fantastic. So, of course, I returned with my parents tonight and if possible, tonight's dining experience was as fabulous, if not, dare I say, better. Two weeks ago, I savoured every morsel of the chicken breast plate but tonight, I had to try the Beef Tenderloin with gnocchi. Incredulously, the gnocchi could be made gluten-free and those wee gnocchi were honestly the perfect pillowy compliment to an luscious sherry-cream sauce that highlighted the most flavourful and melt-in-your-mouth slices of tenderloin. My parents loved their meals (an astounding pork loin chop and also another plate of the tenderloin). Our chef's inspiration amuse-bouche was a tantalizing treat and my Mum, the only one who seemed to have room for dessert, loved her gingerbread tiramisu.
Dining in the Dining Room at Butchart Gardens is definitely a five-star experience for me and most certainly, the delicious and inventive food is the main part of that five-star rating. But what truly sets this place as my absolute favourite place to dine is the impeccable and thoughtful service in a beautiful atmosphere.
I'm always sad when the dining room closes for dinner during the off season but I eagerly anticipate the special event evenings and opening day for summer dining. My greatest compliments and gratitude to Executive Chef, Travis Hansen and his entire team...they truly make an evening super special!
We had a really phenomenal meal for my husband's birthday, and our waitress was spot on with every recommendation. The duck confit pieroghi was heavenly, and my husband thought his ribeye Delmonico was great, all meat, no fat, boneless, and the bearnaise sauce was lovely. For dessert I had a pomegranate meringue with pomegranate gastrique, and it was absolutely devine! This was a "close your eyes and savor every bite" meal!
We attended the dining view during the Christmas festival. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the appetizers pleased the palette. The server made great recommendations that we loved. We had the luxury of sitting next to the window and our server used our camera to take a nice picture of us and the Christmas lights outside. We definitely recommend the restaurant and suggest you book a reservation.
Another great special occasion with out of town guests! Don’t know if I would make the drive without the magnificent gardens....and wish for those not able to walk the gardens that admission should be waved with a dinner reservation In the dining room for sure! Always amazing when the occasion is a walk in the gardens then a lovely dinner in the dining room...or tea! Always a thrill for me....thank you
Butchart at Christmas is simply amazing. Taking the time for dinner at the dining room after admiring the lights, riding the carousel, and going for a skate makes for a truly fantastic experience. The dining room offers exceptional service, creative menu, and sophisticated ambiance. Try for a table by the fireplace for extra coziness.
We enjoyed everything about the tea. The food was really good, the room is lovely and there were festive touches everywhere. Of course being able to enjoy theChristmas lights coming on in the garden at the end of the tea was lovely too. We always used to go to the Empress but with all the changes there we don't enjoy going there anymore. The Butchart Garden tea was well worth the price as well.
Strange to be told eating English Triffle at the beginning of the meal is the English way. Never heard that, not even from many English friends! Nevermind, it was delicious. The egg salad, tuna salad and chicken salad sandwiches were disappointing for such a special menu. Superior staff, always so very kind and patient!
Love the place and the food. If have young children (who are very active or noisy) I will not recommend this place. It is family friendly but better with children 8 and older. Very quiet.
I love the food, and the view. We found the price a bit pricey for the amount of food we had but still I will recommend this place 100 percent over The Empress Hotel tea. We went to the Empress a day before we went to the Gardens. The Hotel is beautiful but the area for tea is tiny and offers pretty much the same the Gardens offer at an exorbitant price of $75 per person. We only pay around $35 per adult and around $25 for children at the Butcher Gardens and we have afterwards a great beautiful place to walk around and to enjoy ourselves.
