Food quality very poor.
Great bartender, she took the time to explain all the specials and mixed a great margarita! We also had a 2 Maine cheese plate. Dinner was a scallop special that we thoroughly enjoyed.
The food was fantastic, the waitress was very friendly and helpful. It was an enjoyable evening celebrating our anniversary.
This is the third Christmas in a row my husband and I have had dinner here. We go back every year and are never disappointed. It is a lovely place, always clean, always friendly staff, and the food is great. I am already looking forward to going again next Christmas.
This was our first night at the Brunswick Inn and Tavern. We’d seen mixed reviews, but thought we’d give it a try. I ordered the seafood risotto. It was completely cold when it first came out. The sever. was very apologetic and brought it back to be heated up...cold again..,she brought it back a third time and it was finally warm. They put a cold sauce on top of the risotto, which really doesn’t make sense for a dish that’s supposed to be hot. Our server was very attentive and polite about the whole thing, and ended up comping us for two glasses of wine. I’m not sure that we’ll return though. It was over $100 for two, and we expect more than cold, somewhat bland food for that price.
I highly recommend this place. The food is excellent and haven’t had a better dinner anywhere else in the area. Service is excellent as well. 5 stars!
My wife and I met another couple for supper and ate there for the first time. The food was good and the staff was also good. We would go back.
We had a 5:30 reservation but were not served until 6:20. Restaurant was very busy but there was a Bowdoin hockey game that night versus Colby - an old rivalry. The staff were not informed about it and made little effort to get us out on time. The wait staff was fine but the kitchen must have been backed up. Poor planning on their part. Food was OK but we had to eat so fast to get to arena that it was not a pleasant meal.
When we booked the hotel for Thanksgiving, tofurky roast was on the menu for Tday so we booked the room because of this. When we looked at the menu that Tday, there was no vegan main entree, instead they offered some kind of vegetable dish but I was not sure if the sauce had diary in it. I eat Plant Based and my partner does not, so this was important to both of us that we could have a Thanksgiving meal that we both could enjoy.
3 of us did the Thanksgiving buffet which had ample choices and was fairly priced given that it was a holiday. Main choices of turkey, ham and baked fish, with all of the usual turkey-day accompaniments all were ok. Glad i saved room for apple pie, which was the highlight of the meal. I've dined here before and enjoyed the table service (this was a self-serve buffet for the holiday) and the slower pace and less-busy atmosphere. But all in all, the staff did a fine job keeping everyone fed!
Though there were few diners and that made us concerned that the food might not be great, it was delicious! The service was prompt and efficient, the presentation attractive. It was quiet. The decor modern and simple. Overall, an excellent dining experience!
The Brunswick Tavern is very noisey, especially with Friday night and Sunday brunch live music. The wait staff are terific and always helpful and quick. The food is standard tavern/hotel fair. Hambergers, seafood risotto, pancakes and eggs. This is a small restaurant with some bar seating that uses local ingredients.
Burgers very good. Execution on risotto and steak less successful
we arrived late after a long day of travel. we chose to sit outside at a fire pit on a cool evening. the ambiance was great. food was good--the pasta and vegies for our vegetarian member of the group was much improved by the addition of a cheese mix that should automatically come with the dish--otherwise it is way too beige. portions were good sized. definitely have dessert. service was the best part--attentive and helpful.
Tavern is no where near as good as it was back a few years ago. The chief have changed over the years and you can tell it's only gone down. We used to go here atleast once a week. We haven't been in awhile. Decided to give it a try again once it's been awhile. Needless to say it's still bad.
At this point I think we are done with the place. Not unless something drastic changes. Which is sad as we live so close to here and we remember few years back how good it used to be with the old Chiefs.
Convenient for pre-theater dinner. Good waitstaff; but, food mediocre. Kitchen has a "cook" , not a "chef" !! Hopefully the new owners will correct this deficiency. We've tried several items on the menu and been disappointed. This time, as last, we had a cup of clam chowder (good, tasty), then crab cakes & salad (overdone, but editable) and our favorite Lemon marscipone cake desert--previously served with blueberry compote. Now just a tad of blueberry decoration on top. There are far better restaurant choices in Brunswick, which we will frequent during the Summer Theater hiatus.
Watching our waistlines, we didn't have much, but everything hit just the right note-- crabcakes, chowder, caprese, red wine, white wine
Under new management; but unfortunately not a new chef. He couldn't make a decent lobster roll, let alone prepare a tender Bistro steak meal. However, wait staff is attentive, courteous and service is excellent. Deserts are very good, especially the lemon cello cake/blueberry sauce.
We ordered their version of fried haddock, and it was the worst we've ever received in a local restaurant. It had a strong fishy taste---much like one would find in a frozen product (Mrs Paul's/ Gorton etc) that somebody would get from a grocery store. It was awful!!! Folks here in Maine know what fresh haddock tastes like, and this simply wasn't either fresh or maybe even haddock.
Maybe we caught them on a bad night (Sunday) but food was uninspiring and service slow considering place was half empty.
Hadn't been there in a year but had enjoyed previously.
Have eaten here many times. Food is good. Location is excellent. Great spot to eat before the theater. We like the outside patio seating in the warm months.
My friend and I chose the Brunswick Tavern because it is conveniently located to the Brunswick Music Theater. The Tavern was busy but we got our food quickly once we had ordered. The waitress seemed rushed to take our order but never refilled our water glasses and had to ask for the bill so we could get to the theater. The food was good but way over-priced! I liked this restaurant better when they offered soup and sandwich specials on theater days!!!
They were not quite prepared for the pre-theater crowd, but Brenda the bartender waited on us and the service was great. Loved the environment and proximity to Maine St Music Theater.
We came for dinner with my vegan children and had a great experience. The vegans are VERY fussy, and when they were pleased, we knew the evening was a success.
I had scallops which were divine.
It was a very busy place with many of us there for the theater, so staff was crazy busy. Suddenly a waitress named Carla(?) appeared and she was just marvelous. Give her a raise!
I shall definitely return.
Food and service was excellent. Nice, relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely keep in our go to restaurant when we are here in Brunswick/Freeport. If you are here, make it a point to stop in. You won't regret it.
Came for supper before a show at MSMT as they are a sponsor. The restaurant is warm and inviting with ample space at the tables for large people as myself and they offer outdoor seating as well. The service was quick and attentive and the menu had many options that looked good. We had clam chowder for starters which was very tasty and full of clams. both our entrées were delicious as were the deserts. We plan a return trip to try some more from the menu and perhaps even stay at the Inn.
Friendly staff. Charlene was knew but excellent- friendly and attentive. Martinis were awesome. Wedge salad and burger was excellent but I should have ordered the lobster ravioli. Convenient location for the MSMT. Food is always good!
We were a table of 4. Took 10 minutes to see a waitress for water and drink order. Another 10 minutes for drinks to arrive and food order. Waitress was one of the bartenders so wasn't real familiar with the other side of the house. Salads were good, salmon was excellent, steaks were fair. Waitress came to ask about refreshing drinks. The order took so long to be filled and my meal was almost done that I got up to go to the bar to cancel the drink. Was told that it was too late, the bartender was already making it. Paid the bill. Left a tip because it was my upbringing - drink remained untouched. Have been here many times over the last few years - very disappointed with the trend I see in service. Won't be returning until I forget how disappointed I am.
We were a party of six representing three generations, went to lunch after an MSM performance at Bowdoin. The inn is quaint, the tavern a wonderful find. When we are in Brunswick again, we will definitely return. The service was outstanding and the food consistently good.
I ordered a steak cooked medium. It arrived obviously cooked rare. My wife ordered salmon. We both had mashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were tasteless and both the potatoes and broccoli were cold. We sent our meals back to the kitchen. The steak came back medium rare and the potatoes and broccoli were still cold.
Went to Brunswick Tavern for a special occasion with a group of 10. For such a intimate place there was more than enough room for several large parties. Our server, Carla, was fantastic. Knowledgeable about the menu and so patient with our large party. The food was really good and she was fantastic so we had a really great experience. Highly recommend.
Have had wonderful meals here before, however I feel this time I was taken advantage of. The Mother's Day brunch buffet was extremely overpriced for the value. I think I could have gotten a much better meal anyplace else in Brunswick for a quarter of the price I paid. Will not be frequenting there unless just ordering off the menu.
I was looking forward to a nice Mothers Day Brunch however this Buffet left a lot to be desired. The food was very disappointing. It was Buffet Style but it was lacking for the price and it tried to hard to be different with their menu items but fell very short. So short I left hungry and unsatisfied. My 9yr old also left the same way.
Next time you need to make things simpler. Instead of Bluberry French Toast, just plain French Toast. Instead of vegetable pancakes, just regular pancakes. Don't make your only egg option a quiche style of vegetables or lobster. There should be an omelet station or a plain egg option. When you are making a buffet Brunch you need to cater to a wide variety of palates, dietary restrictions and allergies. My husband is Gluten Free due to an allergy and there were very few options for him.
The waitstaff was working hard and very pleasant, the atmosphere was nice, however I think the chef missed the mark and it was an expensive Mothers Day Brunch for a very limited amount of options to choose from.
WE were a group of women enjoying the night out. The service was excellent! The fish and chips were the best I've ever had. Light and not so bready. Others seemed to enjoy their meals.
Had visitors in from Virginia and Indiana and wanted them to have a dining experience in historic downtown Brunswick. Our guest loved the facility and the setting, and the meal was outstanding. We were greeted warmly and the service was excellent. I will definitely bring clients back to this wonderful facility in the future.
Easter buffet was delicious. My family enjoyed the experience and Justin our waiter.
Easter Buffet: We arrived at 1:30 for a buffet meal that was being served from 11-3. I was disappointed in the limited selections of salad ingredients, most of the food was only like warm, the fish overcooked and dry, and there was a scant Tablespoon of hollendaise sauce on top of an average English muffin. Our waitress was awesome!! The ambiance was nice, but for $32 the food was more like I would expect from an inexpensive buffet place. I have never been here to eat from the regular menu so this is based solely on the Easter buffet.
Easter brunch was way over priced. Coffee was not included! Payed $3 extra for that? Crazy. The food was cold.
EAster brunch buffet. Cold salads were fine. Hot foods were only warm and dried out. Carved ham likewise. "Glazed" carrots sat in a tin of water, no glaze apparent. Boring dessert choices were cafeteria style, though not as good. Lunch there in the past has been fine; they do not do a buffet well. The outdoor metal patio table covered by a tablecloth doesn't give an atmosphere of fine dining. Very disappointing when the total bill for three, with gratuity, was almost $180.
we had to cancel our reservation. one in our party refused to eat in a restaurant that served any food containing gluten (how many are there?)...and because the tavern's menu is not completely gluten-free, the staff could not honestly guarantee there would be no cross contamination (who could?)...it was our loss, for the restaurant looked inviting....we ended up getting crap from down the street, all because of one gluten wingnut
